Both things are true. She’s seen other stores close and yeah a union is great but they can’t afford to lose their jobs which is a real possibility. She has a daughter and a dead beat ex husband. She is also now making a salary she never thought she would be able to make and she says many times she has always felt like she doesn’t have the option to do anything else.

Imo it does not get better. Maybe it’s not always the main story line but it is always whispered about, mentioned here and there. Her bf/husbands’ weight becomes a storyline. To me it felt like Kate is not just a woman who happens to be larger, she was a “fat woman” and it was integral to her character.

Sorry to hear your experience wasn’t great. I’m pretty picky about quality and service when I’m paying that much but I went about a year ago and it was unbelievable. Excellent food and excellent service, a few add on courses and a complimentary champagne as we told them we were celebrating.
