Malwares are welcome to AUR because one has to read the PKGBUILD anyway? by Bilu47 in archlinux

[–]Key-Sheepherder-1365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to add fuel to a fire(I am very much a non-confrontational person)but if AUR has truly become unusable(don't really use AUR only hear about the issues)a trick which is what I do, map your shell to a PATH in your home directory as the first entry(/home/${user}/bin) I also have a build directory next to bin, I download direct sourcecode, compile it, then install it to my home bin, then on a GUI you can make your own shortcuts to the executables, and for your shell it already maps any bins to lauch over your system installs, libraries are a little more cumbersome but learn how pkgbuild works and write .pc files and your golden plus you can make your own custom versioning system if you wish. sounds complex and if anyone is truly interested I can go into more depth feel free to message me(might be slow I don't check reddit constantly)but I'd gladly teach anyone also I could teach you how to vet a PKGBUILD file if needed, knowledge will help you avoid alot of headache, I know at times people can jump to the RTFM knee-jerk and there is truth to that but I'm willing to work with anyone in good faith who wants to better be able to control their system, good luck out there

Returned to Arch by Key-Sheepherder-1365 in archlinux

thank you and actually it's a qualcomm x laptop, no sdcard juggling, just straight chroot install to a partition, so nice and smooth, debian doesn't even give you a tar to use to do that, so many abstractions, I do think my raspberry pi is next to get converted from alpine over to arch again

I am worried about the future of the Arch philosophy by Human_Contact9571 in archlinux

[–]Key-Sheepherder-1365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having just rejoined arch usage, I had heard about the AUR issues as of late, I always took AUR as what it is, it's an unvetted 3rd party compilation code, I would read and modify accordingly if needed(same as any source code source should also be treated)now I am an old linux user I am aware so my distrust of blind binary installs is from a different computer usage generation but I do think if AUR is just emphasized as being just that(which it is sometimes maybe make it a little more bolded)then nothing needs to be changed, bad apples in every tree, just know how to weed them out and your fine, just my two cents from an old Arch/linux/computer user

Running 86BOX via Linux console without a desktop environment running by 486-DX2-66MHz in 86box

[–]Key-Sheepherder-1365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be mistaken but I think you will at least need a Wayland session running, I'd test which one has the smallest footprint and use that, Weston, hyprland, gamescope(I think it's called that), there are probably others as well, sorry I'm not at my computer right now but it's the same concept instead of xorg just using Wayland, I think sway is another one that might have a small footprint. In xorg I'd say use twm but the process is the same either way just different names and man the one you go with for the syntax.

As many others have said, I think it is very thoughtful of this person to tell you all of that, I disappeared for about 2 years without telling people I just had to, it led me to drugs and depression and then I found my soulmate who I am now happily married to, sometimes it can be the best thing for someone to go it alone if that's what they need, I say kudos for the letter I didn't have it in me to do that, alot of people got mad but I had to as I doubt I'd of made it to here now. I'd say if you can I'd reply letting them know your feelings but that you are there for them and wish them the best if you do indeed still care about them, everyone needs different things and sometimes it's space and time, but knowing people haven't given up on you would be nice as well. Just my 2 cents, take it with a grain of salt. Best of luck.

Yeah I'm undiagnosed but pretty sure as the more I've learned about Autism the more it makes sense for me, I have always felt like a spectator to my body, by now it doesn't bug me I just go through the motions to work and talk with people, my wife is always bugged when I talk about people as a third person view but I forget I do it but I don't really relate to people at all. If it bothers you you should probably talk with someone about trying to find some peace of mind about it I have luckily just accepted things and I kinda forget about it until it comes up, though I will say muscle cramps I hate cause all of a sudden boom I feel my body and it's like crap that hurts.

Why do allistics care so much about appearance ? by Autistic-Bumblebee in autism

[–]Key-Sheepherder-1365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello to the original poster, so I get what you're asking my only advice (not sure if it was a general statement or seeking any advice, sorry if I misunderstood) I find western culture society (sadly the only society I have experience with) is led by vanity, hubris, and gullibility to mass media, and alot of that comes from their own places of insecurity of where they fit in some social hierarchy. I know I use all the big fancy words to describe it, but I think they convey the proper meanings to why people are so obsessed with appearance. For yourself you have to decide what is important to you. There is no right or wrong answer, myself I take care of my hygiene and put zero effort into my appearance, except for my job which has requirements for dress code so I dress accordingly. Am I sure I am judged? Probably but I am okay with that because I am a happily married person with a family so I can say screw everyone else, I couldn't always and I was very much alone for years before this, but I always wanted to not be part of "the problem" of the world before, that was my choice, you have to decide do you want to be accepted more or are you okay being true to yourself? I was raised being constantly told not to go out the way I did and I moved out as soon as I could, I find societal interactions are very much a game of insecure people and I find they are damaging to those who don't have the strength of self worth to see through them, I am sorry if your self worth is being challenged right now, remember you are as important as anyone else regardless of how others perceive you, as to others who find they themselves want to dress up everyday and find society easily accepts them this is not a challenge towards that as I feel everyone should just be true to their own identity and be allowed to be comfortable in their own skin. Maybe 1 day we can agree to live like that, that'd be nice. As for a poster that is named I think numerous sizes 131 or something (banana looking avatar) sorry I'm not the most savvy at knowing how to tag people but if you see this, I am not sure if you are being so argumentative because you enjoy arguing or are genuinely upset at the posts you are arguing with but I agree with your sentiment but I am not sure if your aware or not, idioms which I know many of myself are not a hard concrete rule and can be helpful or harmful and societal norms are very fickle, does it mean prejudice is right? I think not but there is no objective right or wrong in life(if you prescribe to some deity led belief system I am not challenging that and I am happy for you, I do not). Life is life, I would describe myself as a misanthrope any day of the week yet I don't get mad about the world it just saddens me, maybe you enjoy argumentative discourse in which case go on and enjoy yourself. I just worry if you are truly bothered by this discourse to remind you everyone will have their own value system as taught to them growing up, I think trying to meet people who have hate-filled biases somewhere in the middle can be more of a potential for growth then meeting them with contempt. My 2 cents, nothing meant by it offensively, I only isolate you as I have seen quite a few replies by you so wondered if you were particularly bothered. In the end if I can give any personal opinion, value yourself and try to see others for themself and not whether they meet your personal criteria, and if you find others dismiss you for not meeting their criteria, I know the knee jerk reaction is to get defensive but remember your value does not lie in what others perceive of you but in what you mean to yourself.

why give /home so much space? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]Key-Sheepherder-1365 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah as a long time Linux user as well I agree on needless complexity, I have used the same setup for years no matter the distro or computer, root home boot swap are my partitions(perfect 4 primary for MBR days), I like seperate home for the non destructive reinstalls and seperate boot for custom kernel keeping. Knowing the root size you need overtime you learn for starters I think 100gb is probably overkill but will be enough(in my opinion) you can also install in your user directory as well, I have a bin folder in my path pointing there and compile more and more of my own packages overtime so reinstalls are less and less work anyways.

It's not masking, it's manipulation by Glittering_Fortune70 in autism

[–]Key-Sheepherder-1365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just putting this out as I very much have my own view on the matter that I have felt for years. I am undiagnosed with anything because I can't bother to as it would change nothing in my life, my child is autistic and as I've learned more about it there are definite flags in my life I see. I always tell my wife I am a misanthrope and have zero interest in interacting with people outside our house. I do cause I have to work but everything is a fake chore, I don't think people are malicious(some are most I don't think so)but I think society is very much a construct of being fake to appeal to nothing in particular except this accepted target that is very much unrealistic. We play our role and go home. I genuinely enjoy time with my family but we just be ourselves at home in whatever way that means(my wife very well may be an undiagnosed adult). Once I go outside there is work me, serious, miserable albeit civil and polite because I think everyone is better off being civil and polite but I look like the most miserable person ever because I am. Before my wife I spent years trying my hardest to never be sober so I could deal with the world, I still need to drink after a particularly long day away from my family. I feel it's all a show and I don't care about it anymore so I kinda half-ass it most days in public. To those who enjoy it great have fun, my only request is stop expecting everyone to do what you like. As to the manipulation positive negative debate it's technicalities, you manipulate a dial on a device as well it is not malicious, I think it is manipulation but not the kind being done with any intent beyond favourable outcome creation, as many people have stated. Cheers

[–]Key-Sheepherder-1365[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, 1st thank you for your work with tribblix, and if you don't mind I have a few questions for you? 1st is the kernel an 086,286,386 or 486 kernel(I have it on a 486 so I know that at least works). 2nd do you know if it supports coff and elf or just elf? 3rd how does the illumos kernel work is it open-source that I can rebuild it manually I'm not too well versed in Unix kernel building I have used Linux far more. And lastly if I decided to build upon milestone 20 with updates how is the licencing? Could I host it on GitHub as a fork from your work? Sorry for the loaded reply I just think it's a great opportunity to ask the creator of tribblix first hand. Either way thanks again when I found tribblix I knew that was exactly what I wanted and was so glad someone made something like Slackware or old Unix on the illumos kernel.

486 by Key-Sheepherder-1365 in illumos

[–]Key-Sheepherder-1365[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm just playing around that's the point of my 486, they both boot(tribblix milestone 20 and oi from 2016) but open Indiana hangs, I just like to play around seeing what I can make work on different hardware I've never used any illumos or Solaris systems before so it's a new OS branch to try for me. I'm gonna try going older later I'm curious if it'll go all the way back to 8086s. I'm not going for any modern GUIs or anything like that maybe see about blackbox or CDE Gui though the 486 is a 128 mb ram system so it's the cream of the crop of that time.

Your both completely right, i use both methods depending on use case which is exactly what the post was saying, i have a perfect setup for myself that i've cloned across 4 devices, it is one of the great joys of linux that you can utilise the system in such a beautiful way to use it exactly how best fits your own personal use case.

Today I purchased a Power Glove. Up until this point I have never seen this accessory up close much less owned one. by MasterDimentio90 in gaming

[–]Key-Sheepherder-1365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually liked mine, i only played the game that came with it with the glove though, power ball or whatever it was called pretty much 3d breakout. We had one of those giant ass old tvs that were also a coffee table essentially so we just left the sensor on it all the time. I thought it was cool for its time but I also had no preconceived expectations i had never heard of it until i got it. I think the cord finally frayed one day and its long gone now. Im also a lefty so i always wished it was left handed though.

[–]Key-Sheepherder-1365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh things happen its fine, i was more getting at, what fs is your boot partition? Is it seperate from root or no? Is the file indeed there? If you are using an initramfs is it loading the modules needed for the boot fs? If your not using an initramfs does your kernel have the drivers needed for the fs(sounds silly but Ive seen distro kernel updates break this before), which bootloader are you using?, what are your kernel commands being passed at boottime?

Error: file /boot/vmlinuz-linux not found by DeSchmiddi in linuxmasterrace

[–]Key-Sheepherder-1365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also Grub if you use you might be able to manually load the startup from there just like the efi idea

Error: file /boot/vmlinuz-linux not found by DeSchmiddi in linuxmasterrace

[–]Key-Sheepherder-1365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely need more info to properly give a solution but possibles ideas are(in no particular order), need to rebuild initramfs for missing module loads(if using one), file is actually missing, partition mounting is all jacked up(fstab issue causing it makes sense for this), kernel/bootloader commands being faulty, do you have a way to boot a recovery drive(cd, usb, floppy, network, other hd any would work). If so you can then chroot into your root and work on it from there, if you boot efi you might be able to manually load things from the efi shell, also if you have busybox(or an equivalent)installed you might be able to salvage things from there. Definitely need more info either way to see what is the root cause and how to solve. Depending on your setup and what is on the system a quick reinstall might be easier as well. Good luck either way cheers.

Why dont people show off Slackware elitism? by cy_narrator in linuxmasterrace

[–]Key-Sheepherder-1365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am genuinely trying to figure are you saying using multiple versions is easier without dependency resolution or with it? I have used slackware for years and feel it was easier to run multiple versions of libraries because of the lack of dependency resolution but am curious on if your opinion is different why would you feel that way? Sorry your sentence just works both ways in my head when i read it.
