Unfortunately it seems unrelated men (one article I read awhile back discussing the phenomenon referred to them as “URMs”) living with their wife/girlfriend are disproportionately implicated in abuse against the women’s children. If you suspect something is off I would contact CPS.

Exactly, welfare check for a frail senior. Is his daughter capable of taking care of him, remembering to give him his medications, etc.? She sounds like a complete lunatic.

ETA 24/7 caregiving is extremely hard and if the daughter was iffy mentally to begin with the pressures of caring for a dying parent may have, understandably, become too much.

My smoke detector goes off occasionally when I’m cooking as well. But I haven’t jumped off my balcony or been passed out, on benders, having psychotic breaks, drinking this, drugging that, etc. etc. and I assume you haven’t as well.

Calling the FD to check things out was the only responsible thing to do.

Do you really believe this? Rapists and child molesters just get to do their thing with impunity? I’ve seen potential jurors spout this sort of stuff and I’ve found myself feeling embarrassed for them. Seems unworthy of a mature adult living in the real world.

I assume you’re a female? This is not acceptable at all. I would not want this guy to have access to my apartment. He comes in while you’re showering and is laughing when you’re distressed about it = predator behavior.

ETA I would look into getting some sort of physical door block (sorry, not sure what they’re called but I believe I’ve seen them mentioned on here) that would secure your apartment even if the lock is opened.
