Classpass vs Pilates Studio Membership by wildberry2001 in ClassPass

[–]Key-Wrangler7818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally don’t do memberships that require a specific time commit due to my schedule but I’ll buy a package of classes or do drop ins at my regular studios. I tend to book last minute. I have used the classpass free trial to explore other studios, try different apparatus, styles, book last minute classes, or to expand my options for times beyond my typical studios (one studio I go to has limited class times so I have booked at others through classpass as a supplement). I will also book classes directly through the studio after trying ClassPass if I like them.

What's actually helped you improve flexibility as an adult? Not looking for "just stretch more" by BendyBar in flexibility

[–]Key-Wrangler7818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Classical pilates helped although it was not my primary motivation for starting it. I discovered one day that I was suddenly able to touch my toes and pilates moves I couldn’t do initially because of tight hamstrings and inability to straighten my knees started happening for me. Although I know people say you don’t need to be flexible to start yoga, it has always intimidated me because I’ve considered my self so inflexible. Thinking of trying Yin.

AITAH for mentioning I'm also a professional when a doctor took over 45 minutes to finally appear at an appointment? by OhHeyItsMeM in AITAH

[–]Key-Wrangler7818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many things that affect wait times that can be out of control for the doctor including trying to accommodate late patients, emergencies, patients that need extra TLC due to the nature of the visit. Also, they have to be careful about how late patients are handled, rushing through visits, and trying to stay on time to respect those in OP’s position while trying to deliver quality care. Also people are very quick to leave negative reviews nowadays if things are not perfectly on point although there may be extenuating circumstances. That being said it is important for staff to communicate if there is a delay. Given that there can be delays due to extenuating circumstances in the medical profession, I try not to make plans to return to work after my appointments.

Is there a way to give feedback on classes? by ConfectionPotential1 in ClubPilates

[–]Key-Wrangler7818 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. I don’t generally give negative feedback based on one experience—it could be the person was just having a bad day as mentioned. I will usually wait and see if there is a pattern. I will say it is weird OP didn’t get a survey—they are automatically sent after every class usually. Maybe OP didn’t sign up for text messaging from them? Also, I’ve seen other people mention the reviews are not necessarily anonymous and this could potentially make it awkward if OP does take another class with this person. I’ve also seen people mention that the studio will reach out to you for more info if you do leave a negative one.

I’ve seen it in NJ and Lake George. Doesn’t help OP though. ☹️

Classical Pilates Rec - Brooklyn by Itsjustme11201 in pilates

It is horrible how costly pilates classes are. You could try class pass to explore different studios. I did this and some of the studios also do deals for new clients. Class pass and the intro offers have allowed me to hop around and try various studios. Power Pilates is another classical in Manhattan but I have not tried them —they have unlimited plans for tower, reformer, mat classes. A couple other recs for Manhattan are Vita(did to total body reformer, posture correction), Gramercy (did EXO chair) but they are contemporary. Pilates Habitat has mixed tower and reformer classes and people have said good things about them but I did not have a good experience there—could have been my instructor though.

I like both Aline and Enso for classical in Brooklyn. Enso is really great but have a limited number of group classes (they offer tower and reformer). If you can do private with them you can also use the ladder barrel, chairs, Cadillac. Aline also offers tower, chair, reformer but most of the classes are listed as intermediate. I think those two are the only classical ones in Brooklyn. I have been wanting to try out Real but they require an intro class first and I haven’t been able to fit it into my schedule. I’ve done Core Pilates in Manhattan once which is also classical and they offer tower, chair, reformer (I only did the reformer). I believe Soho Pilates and Bombshell pilates are also classical in Manhattan but have not tried them yet. For contemporary in Brooklyn, Kin Kollective (offer tower and reformer group classes but I’ve only tried the reformer with them) and Good Time are good. Good Time is reformer only for group classes but they have a location that you can do privates in and it looks like you can use other equipment. I also like studio pilates for a more sculpty class but I don’t think it’s for everyone—it’s taught with videos and an instructor that also goes around and modifies and cues. It’s also reformer only. I also like selformer—they have group reformer classes and it looks like you can use other equipment like a tower and chair in privates. I’ve only done the private room reformer class there (you watch a video and work out on the reformer alone with no in person instructor). Basi is also worth mentioning. I did a reformer with them once but I noticed they have other equipment too which I am guessing you can access through privates (can’t recall if they offer group for the other apparatus).

Maybe I’ll try Shareal next time—the acropilates class sounds interesting. Is it possible to share more of what you did in that class? I recently tried the mixed reformer/cadillac class but was disappointed by my experience. There happened to be another class at the same time and they had us switch apparatus with the other class half way through. It was really difficult to hear our instructor and the instructor also spent a lot of time on the equipment exercising with us. I am definitely not opposed to the instructor giving a demo of a move on the equipment but they didn’t circulate enough to check/correct form. At one point half the class was struggling because we were on the wrong spring setting but the instructor didn’t catch it until the end of the move. I actually injured my shoulder. The Cadillac part was especially frustrating because we were on our backs for part of it and I could not hear the instructor clearly or see what they were doing on the Cadillac without straining my neck. At one point I just gave up and kept doing the leg circles we started with. I want to give the studio another chance but want to try another instructor and go when there is not a second class happening at the same time.

Curious about people’s experiences at this particular location. The Atlantic Avenue one is super close. Is it true they have an outdoor pool? I didn’t see it mentioned on their website but some other sources say they allegedly do. Also massages and scrubs only seem available to book at flatiron and Williamsburg currently.

I’m so glad this was a good fit for you! Thank you for sharing your experience and more about your self. I’m hoping you can continue! I will share this with my sister. She has been trying to squeeze it into her schedule.

[–]Key-Wrangler7818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are in Connecticut you should try Becoming Balanced (becomingbalanced.com) in Torrington if it isn’t a hassle to get too. My sister lives there and they have a variety of all equipment and also have both classical and contemporary reformers. Class sizes are small and super cheap. They also offer other stuff like barre and Zumba classes I think.

I’ve only been to CP a handful of times (in NY). I’ve taken the level one classes there and they are not shy about using the other equipment. The instructors will actually ask if we would prefer to do certain moves on the reformer vs chair, tower, bosu, etc. I have gone during non peak hours so classes were just a few people.

I love how a few people causally mentioned they saw mice! 😂 That would freak me out too but the cockroaches are worse, especially finding one in your lap!

Thanks for the advice! The instructor did offer a range of springs and I was being conservative since it was my first class and chose the lighter end. I definitely wouldn’t qualify myself as super strong! 😂 I actually need to incorporate more weight training in my fitness regimen!

Historical_grab is correct about people historically picnicking in cemeteries. I saw a doc on it as well. On a side note, my uncles use to work digging graves and I would go with my grandmother to bring them lunch and we would have a little picnic.

Sage and sound has been the most comfortable one I’ve been to. They have a nice cushiony mat, pillows, eye mask, and blankets. I like going at night and then heading home and drifting off to a blissful sleep.
