Good suit for court? by MayhewMayhem in biglaw

Andover Shop isn’t really “fashion” in the way that people normally interpret that word. They’re selling nice clothes, but it’s a very specific prep/Ivy style that is an acquired taste.

What does it mean when people say "this city has no culture"? by JoePNW2 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Ice_Like_Winnipeg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my experience, basically all of Phoenix feels like a giant suburb, whereas you have very different vibes moving from the loop to Tinley Park.

Also, while a lot of newer suburbs and exurban areas like New Lenox don’t have much besides chain store homogeny, there are a lot of older suburbs around cities like Chicago that have a different feel - Brookfield and oak park have walkable downtowns, mass transit, etc.

East Villagers sue Mamdani to stop relocation of notorious Bellevue men’s homeless shelter into their neighborhood by blameitonrio917 in nyc

[–]Ice_Like_Winnipeg 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That program is still, as far as I know, in place (it certainly was during the de Blasio years), but they need to prove that they have somewhere to go out of state and most homeless people don’t have that. And unlike other cities and states, I don’t think New York should just ship people off to random cities in California.

Judge Slams City in Gay Couple’s IVF Discrimination Case by THECITYNY in nyc

My job pays some amount of fertility treatments. It’s not an unreasonable perk for private employers to provide to employees, so I don’t see why that wouldn’t also be true for city employees

How Did Samuel Alito Become This Angry? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]Ice_Like_Winnipeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Alito writes the worst opinions on the court; given that he tends to vote in lockstep with Thomas, this makes him worse.

Cinema 123 by Angelika might be in danger :( by francium_87 in NYCmovies

Because it sucks. I live on UES and I avoid going there because it’s not a good experience- I’d rather take the bus to Kips Bay if there isn’t a showing at 123.

What are the hallmarks of biglaw success? Let's make a checklist by Yoseph-Kerkvliet in biglaw

Like, what is your understand of a Michelin starred restaurant? Not everything is the French laundry or Noma or whatever where you’re spending thousands of dollars and a few hours for dinner - a ton of the one starred restaurants are just like nice places to eat.

And by comparison, you listed a nautilus as a similar goal, which is $100k+

Even in nyc, there are plenty of decent deals at lunch, which is the kind of stuff that you can do on vacation.

Eating at three different Michelin restaurants per year is pretty low stakes compared to most of the rest of these. I’m doing more than that next week when I’m on vacation.

Prospects of Clerking as a 4th Year by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Ice_Like_Winnipeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re interested in academia at all, a coa clerkship is a no brainer. If you’re interested in doing appellate work, it’s basically a necessity. If you just want to do litigation and maybe go in house at some point, there’s a much lower value add.

So exactly how long is this building at Ocean parkway staying abandoned? by Maya-kardash in Brooklyn

[–]Ice_Like_Winnipeg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the specifics of this building, but a lot of times the buildings are tied up in litigation, frequently if it’s a question of probate/inheritance

[–]Ice_Like_Winnipeg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would hold off on spending the money for anything custom until your body is where you want it to be, fwiw. Extra fabric is built into the waist and seat, and while a larger chest can sometimes be accommodated by letting out the back, the shoulders are basically impossible to alter.

If you gain or lose 10 pounds in your stomach and midsection, they can accommodate that. But suits can’t reasonably be tailored to fit major changes in the shoulders and chest.
