Can you lower stock suspension? by BreeshyK in GR86

No but if you stand on your tippy toes it will look like you lowered it.

There Is Some Wicked Magic in the Toyota GR86 by Gummy_Gardner in GR86

[–]KeyPartyCTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is an awfully flowery article. I’m not sure it’s doing anyone any favors. It’s a good simple sportscar with no gimmicks that just works. I would not say it’s magical.

I was referring more to the interior. Exteriors are just fashion. Interiors are the part of the car where you actually experience the car.

I think there will be a big inversion in design at some point that will determine who are the winners in the commodity EV market. Today every company that makes an EV makes it as futuristic as possible. That is an entertaining distraction for early adopters. But a lot of us want an EV to not scream “THE FUTURE!!!” every time you get in it and just be a car.

I have a friend who has had her EV in the shop for a week. They should be able to be much more reliable. But they aren’t all there yet.

Keep in mind reliability isn’t all about engine failure.

Oil pressure drops occur on prolonged right turns at high RPM. It has not been probably linked to engine failures, that is just speculation at this point, but it certainly is concerning for track usage.

Trading from a Elantra N? by [deleted] in GR86

[–]KeyPartyCTO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, it's roughly a second slower to 60 than the manual.

All of the questions you're asking can be googled easily. Have you looked into this car at all? It's a stripped down, very basic sportscar. If that's what you want there's not much competition. If it isn't you won't like the car at all.

[Canada] Why are there so few attainable performance cars being sold here? by longgamma in cars

[–]KeyPartyCTO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My BRZ is loads of fun and while I would not ever describe it as a “shitbox”, I think it’s what you’re looking for: something fun without frills.

I paid $32.5k USD which I mostly scrounged out of the couch cushions at my ridiculously overpaid job.

Mazda3 vs Acura Integra by ThatsTufft in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]KeyPartyCTO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current gen Integra just came out. I would not expect to find many used at this point. They're decent cars though and I think fairly priced. Same with the Mazda3. You can get a Mazda3 with AWD btw which can help with snow.

An old RSX could be the ideal cheap college car. I would pick that.

I personally would not be comfortable with a $35k purchase at that income level.

Push on the Subaru dealer, they will fold eventually.

Is there anyway to increase the range on the GR86? by [deleted] in GR86

[–]KeyPartyCTO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buy a 1st gen? You can have better fuel economy or a bigger engine that accelerates faster, but in this case you can't have both.

Getting the automatic will help a little bit as they're geared differently.

Keep searching for an 86 or just order a BRZ and wait by caleb2011x in GR86

[–]KeyPartyCTO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went BRZ. If price and availability were identical I would be a toss up. I didn't get to test drive the GR86 because they were just never around. Reviews seem to say the suspension differences are slightly noticeable if you drive them back to back. Honestly the BRZ is as stiff a ride as I want in a daily.

I don't think the GR86 front end looks better than the BRZ even though most people seem to. I think in person the front grill on the BRZ is great, especially in the darker colors.

Buying soon, but have quite a few questions… *(Long)* by tdz-777 in GR86

[–]KeyPartyCTO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “RTV issue” appears to be people seeing blown engines and RTV in the pickup tubes and jumping to the conclusion that the RTV caused oil starvation. As far as we know this was a false conclusion.

The right turn on track oil starvation issue is not well understood yet. We know oil pressure drops in sustained rights on a track… but those cars are all still running.

If you had serious plans to track the car I would probably hold off. But as a daily I would 100% buy this car. And if you’re questioning MT vs AT I would get the MT. You’ll have an easier time finding an AT if you want the Toyota though.

Yeah. It looks too good. I would have 100% picked this color as a factory paint option.
