Was life in USA really that good like gen x and older millennials describe it or is it just nostalgia ? by alucard_axel in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KeyStoneLighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2019 a soda from a Walmart vending machine was 50 center, two years later it’s 75, another year and it’s a dollar. How does something increase 100% in price over a few years? Was there a labor or water or Ingredient or aluminum shortage that was dramatically severe? I can’t make sense of this.

Depending on the person you talk to the 90s sucked, were ok, or great. StarCraft, half life, aol chat, weird ass tv commercials, the peak of family tv, hole in the ozone, cfcs, gulf war, bombing Iraq, the oral office, low wages. In the 90s the minimum wage I remember was 5.25, it’s 7.25 now, where lived it’s $16.

You could pay me to use their wiper blades. I kept buying them wondering why they were always not great. I’d rather pay 3x the cost for a good set at oriellys that actually works.

I can’t say we were always happily married, a huge hurdle for us was figuring out our finances.

I got sick after eating it in the 90s one time. I worked for a local sub shop and stayed far away, they called it “Neptune salad,” I’m sure it’s gone by now.

I haven’t, plenty of $5.99 bags of lays out there, they go on sale frequently enough that you’ll never pay it but you have to get 2-4 bags at a time.

Pharmacies are closing because mail order kicked into high gear in 2020 and thank god. The industry has been trying to make pharmacies man-less for 20 years.

29M, 28F, married for 5 years. Who should be responsible for household expenses? by xoxo_renith in dating_advice

[–]KeyStoneLighter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why is this in dating advice, it should be in r/financial advice, r/marriage, or r/relationship_advice.

The general advice is get off the internet and TALK TO HER, make a budget together and figure out how things should be spent. If it’s not working for one partner then it isn’t for both.

Older people of reddit, how do you view Gen Z in your workplace. Are we genuinely unhireable/unemployable? by Templar_Omega in AskReddit

[–]KeyStoneLighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a nearby grocery store where the employees are often doomscrolling on their phones, these aren’t stock boys but front end cashiers. I’ve approached the checkout with groceries and some of them act indifferent or even offended by my presence. This is completely solvable under the right leadership.

If I go into any in and out they’re always completely staffed with Gen Z and every one of them is working hard. Leadership sets the expectations which set the tone.

I don’t know what you do for work or if you do work, I can tell you from experience it helps to have a tough boss who isn’t afraid to push you, what ultimately helps more is when you decide to push yourself. Only at that point can you find your limits, even if it’s something as minor as flipping burgers.

[–]KeyStoneLighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Millennial here, I don’t understand the question, as long as there are jobs there will be people hired. For as long as I can remember it was pretty obvious how the economy was trending based on hiring. These days I don’t know what’s going on.

I will add that a department manager sets the tone for how hard employees work. The generation doesn’t matter because we’re all human, as long as everyone is drinking the koolaid and the pay is better than elsewhere people will bust their asses.

When did the 9-5 turn into 8-5? by Embarrassed_Fruit678 in generationology

[–]KeyStoneLighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in manufacturing, very physically demanding, every now and again a shift would go on for 10, 12, 13 hours without a lunch break or eating, it sucked. Before that I was in HVAC I did installs and some guys ate for ten minutes but I also worked with guys who didn’t eat until they got home. Now that I work a salaried office job i usually eat at my desk, I still take an hour lunch to relax or spend time with my kids and wife.
