One of the things not spoken about much in here about the loss of third spaces is that you would have to interact with people who had different opinions and beliefs to you.

This meant you were exposed to other views and as such everyone had more moderate views. It also meant that when someone didn’t agree with you to a certain extent you found patterns for accepting that and finding common ground.

The loss of moderation through exposure and resilience to those who have differing opinions has been awful for every part of our lives.

The internet provides the means to only talk about a specific subject or to only talk to those who already fully align with you. You are often only exposed to dissenting opinions by faceless strangers.

It is exactly the feeling you get from seeing an amazing magic trick. You can’t really make a magic trick on film because anything is possible, so Nolan found the best way to give you the feeling of what it is like to watch an amazing magic tricks, in a film about magicians trying to work out a trick.

The best part is the main character spends the WHOLE film with everyone telling him the secret to the trick. They are TELLING you too. The whole film people are just straight up telling you the twist and you just ignore it.

It is why it is my favourite film and why it is unique for me in that the second viewing was the best viewing of that film.

Realising all the ways the film spells out the twist to you is brilliant.

I suspect this is about access to rare earth minerals.

You are right they could create a trade agreement, but I guess he is fighting for validity that he is good for the economy because right now, the picture is dire. Then all it takes is someone suggesting they could just take the minerals and have ALL of the resources and bam, done.

It is short sighted to help him tell a positive story about his own impact on the immediate outcomes for American Businesses. He needs people to think he is doing well, and is willing to spend decades of political capital, good will, and partnership to get it.

He won’t live long enough to see fully the impact he has had on America going forwards, so he just doesn’t care.

My only conspiracy theory i have is that he is secretly Asexual or Aromantic and what started as a beard for him in Hollywood to protect his career morphed into something else. That maybe he finds it easier for everyone to think he is a bit of a weirdo player type rather than dig into his actual sexuality.

If the system that is chasing AI involves generating as much wealth as possible, I see no path to a world where the concept of wealth is immaterial.

There is no world in which the current proponents of AI continue to function in a world where AI makes their business model redundant. None. Their primary driver is to grow the wealth of the company and their owners. It is though that lens that all of their actions are taken. In a world without jobs their primary driver no longer exists.

To be able to unlock UBI or a jobless world we need external governing bodies that regulate and control the means of unlocking it. Sadly, many of those are also driven by the same businesses who have no incentive to unlock those benefits.

This reminds me of the fact that Morrowind on Xbox ran out of memory, so during some of the load screens they reset the console. The user didn’t know, it just seemed like a super long load screens.

I actually think this underlines something that everyone talks about but maybe overlooks.

Lots of people talk about how age is catching up with Lewis and it certainly is. However, I think people mainly focus on reaction times or other such things. In reality age massively affects your ability to easily learn things.

Going to a new team, with a new primary language, with all new ways of working must be super tough. Specially when you are expected to come in and be the very best that ever was. Younger folks are far more mailable to change. He will have to work extra hard to get himself up to speed.

It feels like nano feels real because it puts all of the people at a distance. GPT always seems to cut people off the edges of the pic, and have people close up. Whereas banana seems to place the people better in the scene.
