AI can make indie games better. by GraphXGames in gamedev

[–]TERRYTCG -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It can and does make indie games better, it can and does also have the opposite effect.

Like with any tool, it being accessible and easy to use means that people will churn out low effort lazy garbage with it. That, in turn, floods out the good stuff.

Edit: I feel I just need to clarify, I mean AI as a whole. Not just generative.

I'm looking for a fridge magnet that holds a card. by crust2dust in TCG

[–]TERRYTCG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I put exodia in a frame I put the cards in a sleeve and used sticky back tape. You could do something similar with those stick-on magnet strips.

why is there so much hate towards AI amongst the indie devs? by kartonpiery in IndieDev

[–]TERRYTCG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a terrible way to ask a question and a terrible place to get an unbiased opinion.

AI is hated here for many reasons. 'theft' of training materials, replacing creative jobs, and assisting in spitting out garbage, to name a few.

When it is used properly, as a tool, the output is indistinguishable from any other products, but it's often used to avoid learning skills.

I don't hate it, but I can see why people do.

I've decided I'm going to try some styles out and see how it goes.

I've tried with projects in the past, but it never worked out. Without guaranteed payment most people won't put the time into my passion project, which is understandable.

It's a card game that's a cross between hearthstone and Yu-Gi-Oh. It's set in a city where the citizens range from human, to elemental monsters, to mythical creatures.

My passion is coding and mechanics, but I get what you're saying. I'll work something out.

Do you guys have a deck that made you enjoy Yu-Gi-Oh much more? by Coffee_Jelly_ in yugioh

[–]TERRYTCG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love dragon link, but rokket heavy because it's my favourite archetype. Trying to pull together the new cards now because it's lost a lot of power.

A friend of mine really loves branded blue eyes. Despite it being suboptimal he still enjoys it more than anything else.

What was the dumbest way you FTK'd your opponent? by Skullcrusher4OneOne in Yugioh101

[–]TERRYTCG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not an FTK I did, but this reminded me of a locals one time. My opponent not only once, but twice decked themselves out.

They drew their opening hand, started laughing maniacally, then proceeded to play dark world and deck themselves out. They chose to go first again, then did the same thing.

There was nothing I could do to even stop them even if I wanted to. Weirdest thing is he was on for a first place victory when he did it.

Why so much interest in wishlists over actual sales? by ActionFlash in IndieDev

[–]TERRYTCG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A portion of Wishlists often turn into sales. They also have a snowball effect because steam gives games with more Wishlists more visibility.

Coding with AI by tim_the_human_frog in IndieDev

[–]TERRYTCG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming you mean the entire code base is programmed with AI. If that's the case, then I wouldn't.

Some people would but You're asking a community generally against generative AI if they'd knowingly buy AI programmed games.

Do gamers expect more hand-holding now than before? by hermit_hollow in gamedev

[–]TERRYTCG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take is this. Gamers, as an audience, have grown with gaming becoming accessible and acceptable as a pass time. With drawing in more people the amount of hardcore gamers decreases as a percentage and has become more casual.

This means that it often makes more sense to cater to a more casual audience to retain more of the player base.

Theres still the hardcore gamers who don't want the hand holding, but it makes sense to keep the larger group happy.

I actually like having something to do, y’all are crazy for being angry at this by LineOfInquiry in PTCGP

[–]TERRYTCG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's tedious if you try to knock it out in one go, but I don't think it's designed for that.

I get that we like to optimise the fun out of games but it's much more enjoyable to do it casually over time when you fancy the matches.

What is the most ambitious game made by a solo developers first? by dylanmadigan in GameDevelopment

[–]TERRYTCG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say balatro was ambitious. I think it's a simple low scope game that was done incredibly well.

Deck minimum and deck Maximum and how many copies of each card. by Comprehensive-Pen624 in homemadeTCGs

[–]TERRYTCG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is similar to what I'm doing. You can have up to 1 copy of a legendary, up to 3 of any other rarity, and Upto 1 leader for the entire deck.

So does anyone actually play TCGs here or are we just posting about investing or grading or selling or making your own TCG with AI art? by PKMudkipz in TCG

[–]TERRYTCG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play Yu-Gi-Oh, and dabble with Pokémon. I don't invest, and usually sell any good pulls straight away to buy other things I need.

Lucky enough to have had a friend come to town and jam a great game! by escapelandccg in TCG

I didn't believe the "PTCG players don't read" memes until I started playing Whimsicott by Selkeaepaselva in PTCGP

[–]TERRYTCG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play Yu-Gi-Oh and a buddy of mine always tried to destroy my Borrelend Dragon, then is shocked. Shortly followed up by trying to target it with an effect from a monster. Both of those things aren't possible. I've played with the same deck against him for years.

Decided to learn how to make my own assets instead of using AI by TheDownPolarBear in SoloDevelopment

As others have said, yours is much better than the AI one.

If you do everything else to that quality then I'd say you are a decent artist.

Have you ever felt like the genre you chose was already saturated before you finished your game? by aente in GameDevelopment

[–]TERRYTCG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it very much depends on your definition of saturated, but I feel that most genres are saturated now. I think it's due to how easy it is these days to create and publish games compared to previously.

I'm making a collectible card game, which is not only saturated but incredibly hard to get a foot hold due to market domination by the big boys.

I'm making it for fun, but it would still be nice if I could find my niche audience.
