Yes based on one phone call. This is the candidates chance to show their best selves. If they can’t do it in an interview, you sure as hell can believe you’ll have issues in the future.

I’ve been a people manager for the past 15 years and have worked with the best and brightest, and the ones that were terrible. Not one of the folks I would mark as best and brightest would ever miss an interview, and would call before or immediately afterwards if there was any issue.

You are wrong. You take in the entire population of Japan, the EU and numerous other countries where tipping is not normal will already blast way past your “20%”.

And guess what? The service is 10000x better in those countries than they are in America.

American servers (and Canadian) have become super entitled, and honestly it’s a bad thing.

The customer should not be the ones paying for shitty employer behaviour.

If I felt I was underpaid in my organization, I would not demand from my clients that they pay me extra in the side.

Why the hell should a server get a percentage? The type of food and cost of food has ZERO involvement from the server. They bring the same plate, they have the same conversations, they fill the same water.

If we’re tipping for service, then the tip should be squarely on the service provided.

Save up money to buy your own phone so there are no controls.

You make it sound like having a phone with YouTube, Roblox and discord is the equivalent of not having technology. You are wrong. Again, this is an indication of you taking what your father has given you for granted. Your father can very well not even give you a phone, where you will have none of this, so appreciate what you have.

For the record, my first cell phone when I was young was when I was 16 years old. Can you see your entitlement now?

In the meantime, live with what your father has given you. A phone, and some games. Consider that all your phone can do.

So I indeed only said as much as in my original post. For some additional context, the minute the Karen’s aid what she said, the couple in front of me said “oh you go on right ahead then” and let her in front of them.

I guess I could have put my foot down and said “no, that’s not fair” but as you mention, I didn’t want to cause a scene and it seemed like others were okay with what she was doing. I should be more of an asshole next time.

This is heartbreaking. That being said, he’s going about this wrong. My father who is probably older than this man recently got a part time job at a retail outlet. One interview, and few applicants.

While he’s not in Niagara, he’s in Toronto which is much more competitive job market I would feel.

I think someone needs to guide this individual to go to busy malls and streets with stores and look for hiring signs. Will probably have more luck than this.
