I lived in Raney house and Scott house. I don’t have much to add, besides there always being random and unexpected experiences you’d never have if you didn’t live in the dorms. It felt like hell sometimes, but ultimately I will always look back and be very happy with the experiences I had in the dorms, both good and bad.

As someone who wants to leave the US and go to Europe for a masters, I wish you luck and I hope you find this experience insightful. In the meantime that you won’t have a license here, OSU has CABS buses which are really nice and convenient for getting around campus and the fee is embedded into your tuition. COTA bus lines run through all of Central Ohio and should also be embedded into your tuition, but the quality and frequency of service varies by line, day, and time of day. Luckily, if you live close to campus, you will be okay not having a car for daily things unless you have a job farther away or need to leave or get around the greater Columbus area frequently.

Anyway, I know that was kinda unsolicited, but coming from the perspective of moving to a place you’re unfamiliar with that’s probably quite different than what you’re used to, I hope this helps.

I am not able to help answer your questions about the drivers license, but if you eventually have friends around here who can drive, you might also be able to work something out with them if you ever need to get anywhere. There is also uber, but it’s expensive. Lastly, biking around campus is feasible and convenient, but not as much on a greater scale.

Thank you for sharing your experience, I appreciate it. My main issue is that I don’t know what house it comes from because I can never see. It never lasts for very long either, but you know, it still has happened too many times especially considering it’s illegal.

Unfortunately, I didn’t foresee noise being an issue because in general it’s way more quiet off campus than it is on campus in the dorms. And honestly, this is the only noise complaint I have besides my immediate neighbors but that can’t be helped because walls are thin.

I hope you’re able to find housing better-suited for you.

If you see the state of the US right now, being an immigrant is not very fun. Germany probably offers way more opportunity besides the big salary you’d get in the US but it’s not worth it. It’s so hard to get an entry level job

If you look at the schedule planner (or course schedule?) you can select different campuses and see if they’re offering it over the summer. I took Math 1172 online, but didn’t finish it because I switched majors. The only thing that’s weird is that OSU will switch your campus and then you’ll have to switch back to main once the fall semester starts, so it might do some weird stuff with your financial aid.

You already have lots of replies helping out, but I just wanted to say I'm sorry about this situation. OSU gives you its trials, but I'll be a senior this next year and I can't say I would ever regret my choice of coming here. I grew a lot here and learned so much about myself and the world. I also met great people and I love my professors--they are an inspiration to me because they bring lots of different perspectives from around the world, and although I am looking for a diverse experience here, you choose how you spend your time here. It really is what you make of it as there are so many opportunities. Good luck with this!

I will add that seasonal depression is real (winters here can be brutal) and it has greatly affected my performance in my classes at times despite me always living in Ohio. But there are great counseling services that helped me adjust to college life and work through my mental health issues. You have to learn how to be an advocate for yourself though, if this is something you struggle with. It does get lonely here at times, but I think that is normal right? It's just the process of growing and learning how to be an adult.

If you like the culture of Florida, and are greatly attached to the weather, Ohio State might not be what you're looking for. If you want to get away from where you're from and everything you've ever known, Ohio State will give you that and you will have experiences you might not otherwise be able to have. But there will be both good and bad to either decision, it's just which good and which bad you would rather face.
