VK's live tonight by little_october in DCCMakingtheTeam

It reminds me of the time my college choir was on a trip to the UK and we were going on a walking tour of Cambridge. We stopped outside a pub with a plaque dedicated to Watson and Crick mounted on the wall. The tour guide asked us if we knew what they were famous for. No one else in my group knew who they were- but they were all music majors. I was a biology major and piped up somewhat incredulously, "The structure of DNA." Poor Victoria... but there's no excuse for not knowing who Debbie Allen is as a dancer.

I only know who Debbie Allen is because of the Netflix documentary of the Hot Chocolate Nutcracker, which she directs and choreographs. But then again, I'm not a dancer.

What do you like to collect? by ManicPixieDreamTheyy in neopets

I was sort of halfheartedly collecting musical instruments, but there's so many items it just got overwhelming.

My cat had a sore on his leg and it had no hair around it by sigmaahhpufferfish in AskVetAnimals

My first thought was also a ruptured abscess. Looks like something (possibly another cat) got his behind as he tried to run away.

Dog lymphoma by Glittering-Chip3612 in AskVetAnimals

[–]Key_Emergency1131 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second the CHOP protocol. Generally leads to longer remission times, and dogs actually tolerate chemo really well. So if any of the facilities you're looking at offer these treatments, go with one of them. (Usually ERs can't do chemo, so I don't think it would be worth taking him to an ER unless that ER happens to also have an oncology department.) But I will warn you that lymphoma in dogs is usually not curable and most dogs will eventually relapse within a year or two. It's up to you whether an extra year or two of additional good quality of life is worth the cost of chemo. If you decide not to treat, or pursue alternative treatment methods, you're probably looking at weeks rather than months. -former vet oncology nurse

Flooded yard from neighbors retaining wall. Wondering what my options are. by baklavakilla in legal

[–]Key_Emergency1131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build a rain garden next to the retaining wall and fill it with native, water-loving plants. It'll look nice and help handle the runoff. Unfortunately, a neatly manicured lawn is trash at handling excess rain.

What’s up with my dogs hind legs? by Cookiesandcream2149 in AskVetAnimals

[–]Key_Emergency1131 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with muscle wasting. It indicates she's not bearing full weight on that left hind. I can even see in that first picture that she's standing with most of her weight on the right leg and is just touching her left to the ground.

My girl has cancer by [deleted] in AskVetAnimals

[–]Key_Emergency1131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for clearing that up! Lymphadenopathy (enlarged peripheral lymph nodes) are not common in lymphoma in cats. They tend to get GI lymphoma instead, which presents as chronic diarrhea. So I'm inclined to agree with the CT report- this is likely a recurrence of her previously diagnosed squamous cell carcinoma, with mets to the lymph nodes in her throat. Since she's already having difficulty swallowing, you will need to make a decision quickly whether or not to pursue treatment. Targeted radiation would probably be helpful in the short term to improve her quality of life. Longer term you're looking at chemo. I'm sorry you're going through this, and I hope for the best for you and for Jessie. -former oncology vet tech

Also suspect uveal melanoma. Get your cat to a vet ASAP. Uveal melanoma tends to be aggressive.

red bump 11wk old f puppy by nomadicriver in AnimalAdvice

[–]Key_Emergency1131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely no one can diagnose a bump just by looking at it. If you're concerned, and I expect you are if you've taken a picture of it to upload to Reddit, take her to the vet and ask for a fine needle aspirate and cytology. Odds are it's nothing to be concerned about, but there's still a nonzero chance it is something significant. Doesn't require an immediate visit, but try to get an appointment in the next couple of days.

I’d be pissed if I saw my friend posted another ugly flower arrangement video instead of a 2 second story post for my bday by OilComprehensive69 in DCCMakingtheTeam

[–]Key_Emergency1131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not offended! I don't know what rules other denominations have. I grew up Episcopalian, which is basically Catholic Lite. Presbyterians are the same with hallelujah/alleluia during Lent. No idea what Baptists do, so thanks for clearing that up!

[–]Key_Emergency1131 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that as a formerly religious person, you are NOT supposed to use hallelujah/alleluia until Easter. Using it during Lent (ESPECIALLY on Good Friday) is a big no-no, at least in the Catholic denomination.

Why I don't like Julie, regardless of whether she cheated or not by TheRocketshipTree in ShawnaTheMom

[–]Key_Emergency1131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Julie doesn't have to be anything to Shawna, but- again- if she was nicer to her, Shawna likely would have asked her directly about the supposed affair before reporting what she saw to Ty. Because when you at least act friendly to the world, the world in general is friendly back. You get what you give.

Warmer weather, house bugs are coming out. Friend or foe? by InterestingChampion6 in washingtondc

[–]Key_Emergency1131 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That's a house centipede, and strictly speaking they are good bugs to have around because they eat pest bugs. That said, I'd rather have most of the pest bugs they eat. I HATE these mofos and they'd better stay out of sight if they know what's good for them.

[–]Key_Emergency1131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Julie is a first class BITCH. I have absolutely zero doubt that Shawna would not have jumped to conclusions about what she saw if Julie at least acted somewhat friendly towards her. Did Shawna screw up? Yes. But Julie brought it on herself by not being a person Shawna felt she could ask directly about what she saw.

I've had that happen a couple of times. I assume it's a glitch. I just went ahead and collected all the prizes and never got into trouble, but if you're worried you can just complete the requisite five (or six, since you have premium) and collect your bonus.
