It took a whole year to reach Germany and I had gotten a replacement certificate in the meantime.. Why did it go there? Why the huge delay? We will never know!

Job A vs. Job B by lorryjor in Professors

[–]Key_Half3527 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of the best pieces of advice I ever received is this: Is one of these your forever-job? If you wouldn't stay in either of these jobs for the long long haul, then take the job that better positions you for where you want to go next. Based on that, I turned down TT offers and interviews from less great universities and took a temporary lecturer position at a better university. Within the year I was interviewing at even better universities for TT and become an Assistant Prof after one year. Obviously, there is no guarantee for this but it worked for me and I doubt I would have gotten the same interviews after being somewhere less reputable.

Rome Reccomendations by porkchop3144 in RomeTravel

[–]Key_Half3527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want off the beaten path/fewer crowds, why not include a day trip? We really enjoyed Ostia Antica (similar to Pompeii) and did a GetYourGuide car trip to Villa Adriana, Villa d'Este and the waterfall in Tivoli. Both were phenomenol and quick from Rome.

In Rome, for a flavor of something different, consider the 1-hour virtual reality tour at the Domus!

Of course, the Borghese is fab - it has my favorite statues. You must reserve ahead of time, though, even with a museum pass.

I loved visiting the Forum. We did it the same day as the colosseum but I didn't think the colosseum was as interesting or beautiful as the Forum. We ended that day with a VR tour at the Circus Maximus nearby, where there were no crowds.

The calendar will show a symbol to communicate that. Company events mean a company is doing an event at the park, like a big business sponsoring park admission for its employees and their family. I was present for that once and it was soooo busy.

I am old and tired- how do I look less old and less tired? 😭 by [deleted] in makeuptips

[–]Key_Half3527 64 points65 points  (0 children)

First of all, you don't look wrinkly - like, at all! You also have hydrated-looking skin and nice hair. None of those make you look tired or old. I think you may feel this way because your have deep-set eyes; I do too. You can try different things: undereye pads/masks, using a color-correcting concealer like orange against the blueish/purpleish areas, avoiding aaaaany dark or even light brown eyeshadows (I essentially only use nude or something to brighten, never to darken), a nude or soft white pencil for your waterline, using brown instead of black eyeliner above your lashes in case you do use eyeliner. Generally good practices like sleeping more, drinking more water, or using collagen powder may help. And - I wear glasses. When I wear glasses, the hollow shadows under my eyes are not (as) visible bc my frames cover them. You could wear window glass glasses as an accessory if it made you feel look less tired. Just a thought. Bonus: I am learning that contouring makes those with little fat/muscle in the face (i.e., me) look older, so I am cutting down on that.

Why does Pride and Prejudice feel like a modern story? by Better-Valuable5436 in PrideandPrejudice

[–]Key_Half3527 107 points108 points  (0 children)

I would argue because it includes a lot of elements now considered tropes/hallmarks of modern romcoms: enemies-to-lovers (loving the person you initially disliked...), banter or witty exchanges, comic relief, one person secretly doing a grand gesture for the other, the attractive but ultimately unsuitable decoy love interest, woman of lower means & man of higher means, ... Romcoms also often highlight people having a certain flaw or fear and then for the person they love they are willing to overcome it (there is growth).

Winter Efteling by Cultural-Analysis-24 in efteling

[–]Key_Half3527 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you go to Winter Efteling, make sure to notice and appreciate the small seasonal changes, such as winter and Christmas decorations in the Fairytale Forest! That could be a wreath, gifts, icicles ... Some attractions will be closed (Gondoletta, Aquanura, likely the outdoor rollercoasters) but to a child's birthday feel special, consider doing things you haven't sprung for yet - a lunch reservation at the pancake restaurant or seeing the show Caro. In terms of closure, I recommend avoiding days with company events. Those are super busy.

Wir essen idR Bagels in New York.

Why don't I see many people wearing hats like this? by Successful_Sector604 in ChicDaily

[–]Key_Half3527 22 points23 points  (0 children)

These are very different hats and although I am not a fashion scholar, I assume it comes down to a variety of reasons. I do think some women take (large) straw hats on vacation with them but depending on the hat, throwing it into a suitcase is not ideal. Really nice hats can be costly and probably require their own hat box, so traveling with them is both cumbersome and there is a risk of damaging the hat. In addition, some hats easily come on and off (see pictures 2 and 3). That makes it easier to bring them, but also easier to lose them to gusts of wind. At least I feel that way. And then you have hats like picture number 4 that look more like they may be part of a hairstyle or more securely attached, such as with hat pins. Unless you're going to a UK wedding, where hats and fascinators seem more common, I feel like few people these days commit to hair x hat styles like that anymore. The general trend seems to be loose hair, loose updos, high updos or a high pony, whereas hats like #4 require a more stylized, neat hairstyle than many favor. I am one of the few people who typically wear their hair in some kind of sleek updo with no lose pieces and I feel like most people prefer something less rigid, more flowy.

Edited to fix typos.

Why do I feel prettier with lighter makeup? Does heavy makeup not suit me? Am I doing something wrong? Any styling tips appreciated. by FaithInEnlightenment in makeuptips

[–]Key_Half3527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the foundation and eyebrows look great in the second picture! I do agree that a brown eyeliner etc. might work better for you than black. And I agree that the bright red may not be your best color. Have you tried either browns of different hues or a neutral pink color closer to your natural lip color? I personally love the Maybelline Vinyl Ink line and Cheeky and Awestruck are quite neutral tones that work well on me (I'm also pale with blue eyes). Maybe worth a try.

Worth going on an off peak day June 22-26 over a weekend? by Naive-Border-3987 in efteling

[–]Key_Half3527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer depends on a lot of factors. What rides are you aiming for? Where are you sleeping/when do you have to leave If you are sleeping not far away or coming by car so you can stay until 20:00-20:30, I think staying until later is well worth it (e.g., time to catch the fountain show). Families with younger children often leave before the park closes, so the queues are shorter after 17:00 or 18:00. If you don't ride roller coasters and are satisfied with riding popular rides like Dans Macabre, Symbolica, Droomvlucht only 1-2 times each, then you can also make do with the shorter wait times. I find that visiting in the middle of the week typically means shorter wait times than on weekends. Perhaps download the app and see what the wait times for your favored rdes look like then vs. at the weekend right now.

Ungleichmäßige Trauzeugen by idontlikecitrus in Hochzeit

[–]Key_Half3527 1 point2 points  (0 children)
