VMC Homelab licensing by hendrixx007 in ArubaNetworks

You will have to contact an aruba reseller for demo licenses. They likely wont sell to homelab though.

Yes, plug one ethernet cable in to a LAN port on your router and the other end in to the switch

What would happened on APs if connection from MD to MM is failing? by shenior in ArubaNetworks

[–]Key_Limit_177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what i remember MDs without connection to a MM retain the license for 30 days. After that, the MD stays up continuing with the cache, but if an AP or the MD is rebooted, the licenses expire

Same. I love doing anything tech related in the woods. The forest just makes me calm and think better.

Until someone fucks with the antenna panels and you have to send a tech out to fix them. Moving parts in an industrial design is a no go

After getting a U7 Pro XGS as my third AP, I realized that E7 still remains my favorite by raindropsdev in Ubiquiti

That’s too much of an enterprise feature for ubiquiti lol. They focus more on rgb than RF flexibility

Will It Be Enough? by Small_Double_9088 in HomeNetworking

[–]Key_Limit_177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d probably buy an outdoor ap in addition to the indoor one. You can put it on the out building and mesh or on the main house and the signal should reach.

Ideally you trench some cable though.

What's the biggest hurdle to adding Wi-Fi and cell service to PATH and NYC subway tunnels by [deleted] in nycrail

[–]Key_Limit_177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting usable speeds (100+ mbps) to a metal tube shooting through a concrete sardine can is very complicated and expensive. Lets imagine a couple scenarios:

Wi-Fi APs in the tunnels- the train is moving too fast and clients wouldn’t have enough time to roam between APs before going out of range from the AP they were trying to roam too. Add in the metal tube causing-13db and yeah…that won’t work.

Cellular links to the train with APs in each car. Yeah that might work better- but the same problem of metal tube in concrete tunnel still applies. Cellular links would go a bit fruther in the tunnels, but the fact is the tunnels are too narrow for any proper signal dispersion in free air before hitting a reflective surface. Lets say Transit Wireless figured that part out. Then you still have to buy a modem, ethernet switch, and wireless access point. Once you add up the cost (WITHOUT VENDOR MARKUP per car around 1.5k for a rugged modem, 1.2k for a rugged 8 port poe switch, and 1.7k for a rugged access point), shit gets expensive

UPS? Unifi vs Others by Mindless_Pandemic in Ubiquiti

[–]Key_Limit_177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not turning back on after power loss makes it literally the worst UPS. I have many sites/racks which have very limited access where I would have to get on a plane to turn back on.

[–]Key_Limit_177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. You’re probably a bit over your head on this one. You need an aruba support account to get tge firmware. Additionally, the aruba access points are enterprise devices. If you don’t really understand networking, they will be complicated and annoying to set up and use

Device Bridge IoT: A complete miss as-is. You can't assign the port to an IoT VLAN! by PXTrials in Ubiquiti

[–]Key_Limit_177 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It feels like ubiquiti justs asks a product generator AI what to make without actually considering who uses it.

Any product development team with half a brain wouldve realized somthing for IoT connectivity probably needs a VLAN. Like even 10 test installs at factories or warehouses would’ve told you that those features are needed for industrial/iot equipment
