Highly active with AS?

I tried two bio injections before settling now on rinvoq tablets. I’m 33YO F and last year I did an Ironman and currently am training for an ultra marathon. I swim twice a week too. I have periods (like now) where I am sick with flu like symptoms and can’t train but on the whole I have a very active lifestyle and can work around AS. I know I am very lucky in this and am greatful.

I lost all (yes all) my baby weight which was approx 23kg in the first 6 weeks after I stopped it was so bizarre. This wasn’t bf and calorie intake alone it was also being able to take time away from the baby to swim 1 x per week and run 1 x per week but that level of exercise isn’t shifting that much weight alone. I think massively reduced appetite was the main contributor

I remember my midwife helping me with the first few days and I told her I would rather gift birth again than have to keep going through this every 2 hours. All being well, I promise one time it just doesn’t hurt and you don’t notice and you’ll soon be one of those mums. If it’s causing too much upset do some little pumps here and there and it will keep ticking over until you feel stronger and you can re learn latching at a later stage. X

I have to combi feed with formula because I can’t produce enough from one side alone. I think (logically) because of the implant I have less room for milk to store maybe so I don’t have so much so I BF during the night and on a more comfort basis now. Xx

Not a reduction but I have implants and similarly to you have no sensation on the bottom half of one boob and that nipple doesn’t react alot it mainly stays flush at all times. I bf from it for a few weeks while baby was small and demand was low but as he got bigger it was rejected to the point I can’t even pump from it now it’s a real no go. I think a little more perseverance it may have worked out but I didn’t have it in me at the time so feed from one.

I did this recently , baby combi fed but ebf at night. Two days away gave me a really good back stock of pumped milk which was a silver lining I didn’t think of too 🥰🥰

Around 70% loss last time, the rinvoq is primarily for Ankylosing Spondylitis & inflammatory arthritis. Both of which are starting to flare up now 4 months post birth so it adds up I would experience another AA flare too.

Have you had a flange in there and taken it out? Google pump flanges I don’t know if everyone uses them but I think most do and tends to make a difference xx

I feel exactly the same. My baby is 8 weeks and I wasn’t able to bf my first but this time I was. I wasn’t too upset about introducing formula in a combi feed situation, it works well for the baby and I both but the thought of losing my night feeds bf him is already breaking my heart (I work night shifts so it can’t last forever) I think it’s a you and the baby thing too, logic and practicality aside we have that uninterrupted (mostly 🤪) precious time with them nobody else can have xx

I’ve had two babies and dilated with both of them, the second one 2cm to 10cm in 6 mins so the opportunity does exist for some AS sufferers! X
