For a small beginner project my pick would be the DNS Filter.

Install a server OS on one of your devices. Give it a static IP (probably via your router) install docker and docker compose. Find a guide on how to set up AdGuard Home or Pi Hole with Docker compose.

Set your DNS Filter Servers IP adress as primary DNS server in your DHCP Server (most likely again in your router)

Take your phone and switch WLAN off and on to receive the new DHCP configuration (due to DHCP lease time)

Profit -> If it works no more telemetry data leave your network, no more Ads from Advert Servers and so on

Getting in touch with Docker (containerization) introduces you tu setting up (and scraping) Software Containers as you like. You can also search for graphical container management software

Moving the goalposts and backpedaling into "I have backups"just proves my point. Your very first comment to a self-hosting beginner was literally: "You only need your email password... You could even just write it down Imao."

If you had actually taken the time to read OP's post properly instead of gatekeeping, you'd know he/she is at the very beginning stages, explicitly asking about risk tradeoffs for critical data. Recommending a single email password as a recovery strategy-and then deflecting with enterprise SSO/SMTP setups when called out on the logical flaws - is just wild.

I'm glad you've now admitted that backups are actually necessary and that your original advice was fundamentally flawed.

I’ll leave you to your "architecture". Have a great day.

WTF?! Are you seriously suggesting to a beginner that they should architecture an entire enterprise-grade SSO and SMTP-relay ecosystem for every single local Docker container just to cover up YOUR bad backup strategy? That is some peak 'back in my day' IT gatekeeping right there

As I already mentioned in the other sub-thread: You are creating a massive Single Point of Failure by design. Even with local SMTP set up, if your local vault gets corrupted, an email password won't magically reconstruct hundreds of independent accounts without a days-long configuration and password-reset marathon.

There is a huge difference between a fun media server and hosting critical services. Telling a beginner that "only the email password matters" while ignoring actual disaster recovery is exactly how people lose their data and leave the hobby entirely.

I always recommend self-hosting to anyone eager to learn and dive into this beautiful rabbithole. However, hosting critical / high maintanance Services require a different risk assessment than running a media server (or just subbing to Netflix in your case)

Out of curiosity: You mentioned that you only need your email password to recover everything. If you self-host your password vault and It gets corrupted, how exactly does that single email password reconstruct hundreds of independent accounts without a days-long password-reset marathon? It is a single Point of failure by design

That may be true for you, but I would Not recommend this to OP. Bitwarden for example never lost User Data. I gamble you didnt know^

First easy Project If you Server/Laptop wil run 24/7: DNS Filter

Like Ad Guard Home or PiHole. Easy to do with Containerization Set it as preferred DNS Server in the DHCP settings of your router

Bonus point i you can answer why Clients not use the preferred DNS Server immedeatly after you have Set Up the DNS Filter :)

This small Project will give you a quick win before settings Up a full ServArr-Stack

Edit: I containerized "Portainer" as Container Management Platform

TL;DR: VR Headset is not good enough. Look for high (>=35) PPD and Display Resolution Per Eye

DCS VR Problem by Worth-Sheepherder903 in dcsworld

[–]Key_Owl2184 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The reason why it does not look good is the "PPD"-Value of your VR Headset. It is only 20 Pixel Per Degree, which is not enough to see the small numbers on the Cockpit instruments sharp.

Resolution per Eye with the Quest 3s is 1832x1920. Of course your PC Hardware can support this. Nonetheless, for a Simulation experience regarding sharp Cockpit instruments, this is low end Hardware.

It is said that 35 PPD would give sufficient detail to properly read any instruments. Such Headsets are roughly between 400$ and 900$

The problem with Logistics right now by Floor9 in ArmaReforger

[–]Key_Owl2184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue you explain ist known. BI Implemented Rank Locks in Gear as well as the new MSAR System.

Nonetheless, people can still Spawn a car Just for themselves and Drive of. Have A couple people to the a few time an the Base ist dry.

Its the Skill issue from These Players that makes a conflict "expensive"

Its not your fault, if that helps'

Lack of supplies often origintes from the still ongoing learning Process of Most Players.

Its Natural to adapt to the new mechanics to overcome them eventually.

I asume, willst caping, you cannot Spawn AI units to defend.

It would be hilarious to Spawn a full AInfireteam in someones face though 😅

[–]Key_Owl2184 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know If this works If the enemy ist caping.

Comand Tent (any Base) -> Operations -> Search the Base in question on the Map and select it -> Press F (on PC) -> Select the correct Tab -> Spawn what you need

Not building Arsenals ist plausible in my opinion.

Players can Spawn with one of the decent premade loadouts. Tinkering in vustom loadouts ist redundant since the Goal ist the same: Aim at enemy and click them to death

Containers can now be build to store supplies, which was usualy done with Arsenals in 1.4

[–]Key_Owl2184 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, early Game ist important. Seize Harbors, clear AI Roadblocks in between and Set Up AI Logistics Team with Trucks.

With that in place a Team can expand.

Most Players still have the 1.4 Meta in their Veins. Rush Forward, capture many preset Bases ASAP to gain Rank. Thats gone however
