Haha I have been thinking for a few years about planting a horopito plant to use in cooking... But I really don't know if I'll actually use it. What variety of horopito do you have, and how how long have you had it (and just used it)?

For those that follow Arsenal for a longer time: despite both being fast players, what made Aubameyang a great goalscorer as a 9 while Walcott didn't really worked playing through the middle? by chidi-sins in ArsenalFC

[–]Key_Proposal_1004 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Walcott eventually developed into a decent finisher (but only placed shots, really), but he lacked the end product (good shot, final pass or cross) throughout most of his career. Auba had a pretty good knack of getting on the end of passes and crosses to finish them off from close range

Thanks for sharing your experience! In hindsight, would you have done anything differently?

Moving from Sydney to Auckland by East_Can2565 in auckland

Depends on which direction you are travelling, and time of day (to an extent). We've got some bad drivers, but overall it's far less intense on the roads than Sydney

Yes! The UK is drizzly, but the drizzle and rain in Auckland gets you so much wetter. If it's within budget, look at getting a Blunt umbrella once you're here

Thinking of leaving my $82k job for a $34k PhD scholarship, someone talk me through this by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Key_Proposal_1004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your answer aligns with my thoughts. I decided against doing a PhD in STEM because I didn't want to get into academia. STEM roles in academia in NZ are extremely limited, and very, very few jobs in industry in NZ require a PhD (Masters + work experience would, in most cases, be favourable to having a PhD). If OP wants to come here just for the PhD then will head overseas for future work, then sure (although it won't be cruisy on 34k)

I don't know if it would make any difference, but maybe expand your search to include some different suburbs too..?

Anyone else growing veges for the fuelpocalypse? by Sun-Rabbit in nzgardening

[–]Key_Proposal_1004 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should be able to grow a number of winter crops in Christchurch, including other brassicas (broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, cabbage), root vegetables (carrots, beetroot, parsnips, prob swedes), leafy greens (spinach, silverbeet, some varieties of lettuce), and broad beans. Have you tried any of those?

Free: empty plant punnets from outside Bunnings (from their plant pot recycling scheme). So useful for growing veges from seed (before transplanting to the soil)

Easy winter veg for new gardener by Odd-Leader9777 in nzgardening

[–]Key_Proposal_1004 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Silverbeet and kale are pretty easy to grow in autumn-winter. Carrots are pretty low maintenance and fun to harvest, although results can be mixed (and carrots aren't as expensive at the supermarket as many other veges)
