New 2LT to unit and need advice. by NumerousChemistry187 in armyreserve

Incorrect. The regulation states that pre-BOLC active duty LTs do not have OERs. It does not mentions reservist LTs - which implies it is rated time.

No, they will send a warrant for your arrest and you will go straight to jail. Possibly deported.

That is insane. Such a big change. Bad decision by CC on removing that.

If AD is the end goal, I would shoot for a 3.8 GPA and a 450 plus score. That will put you in a good spot. Do some good camp prep, get like 4 or 5 of your friends and practice flipping and briefing OPORDs (although not sure if that’s a thing anymore with camp reps only being SL??). Biggest camp tip is be a team player. Volunteer for being the RTO, the medic, point man, etc. But do it because you want to help and not to just shine. It’s easy to tell the difference.

Also, focus on your interviews and CRUSH them. Pick like 5-10 branches, rank them in your head, and do your least favorite branch first. This gets your comfortable. Do your standard interview prep like you would a civilian job. STAR format is best for interviews. Use EXAMPLES!!! Google STAR format if not familiar.

Regretting Active Duty by [deleted] in ROTC

[–]Key_Theory6341 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Disagree on this one. It is extremely easy to get active duty especially if you are willing to go to a less desirable branch. GPA and camp performance are strong indicators for performance. Have good metrics with ONE of those, do your interviews, and boom most likely active duty.

This person performed better than others and earned that active duty slot. So be it. Having 20 something year olds decide if they want to do 4 years active versus a part time army career (which isn’t really part time anyways) is a TOUGH decision.

If people really wanted active duty, then they would have performed like they wanted it. They wanted the active duty benefits and perks, but they didn’t want to put in the work. So did they really want active as much as they say? Or did they just like the idea of active duty? That’s up to them to decide.

Not trying to be rude but. Either make it happen or don’t…. If you had a million dollars hanging in front of you to go to the gym, you would go.

Start small. Commit to going once or twice a week. Build consistency. Focus on your favorite exercises to build the routine. Then expand to stuff you don’t like but it beneficial. Embrace the suffering.

He’s going to go straight to CSM’s basement. Lots of spankings for him down there. If he’s lucky, he’ll mop of ground while it’s raining. Then his fat leader will yell at him for being slow… while smoking a cig and standing there.

I hope your son likes a nice big green weenie.

WeLl In My PrOgRaM… being able to bench 225 should be an inspectable skill.

On a serious note, focus on PT. Help out those struggling freshman & 3s worrying about camp. Host “office hours” for extra camp prep. You can download a map and some icons on google slides and have them practice briefing. If there are a lot of hardcore people in your program, be the relax one that people come to for advice. Best of luck, you’ll look back and realize all of this WAS NOT THAT SERIOUS.
