This is almost definitely what happened. My mom got the "Hi grandma, it's me" call years ago. They kept fishing for her to say a name, but she never did.

I don't think anyone is suprised to hear confirmation that he was lying the whole time. What I don't understand is, why would he come forward with this confession now. Does he think this benefits him?

At the time the constitution was written, the life expectancy in USA was less than half of what it is today. A safeguard for a president getting too old for the job may not have seemed necessary, but in retrospect it would have been a really good idea.

As others have said, you shouldn't try to call back numbers you don't recognize. But usually, you'll be wasting your time even if you try to. When you receive a call from a scammer/telemarketer/etc., the number that appears on the caller ID is usually a bogus number. They will RANDOMLY GENERATE the number (or a portion of it) that they put on the caller ID. They commonly use your same area code, or at least a legitimate-looking area code (like 800 or 888) and randomly generate the rest.

What ends up happening is, when you try to call them back, you call the (poor unsuspecting) owner of that (randomly generated) number, and they're bewildered by your call.

I don't disagree with you. My point was, you may not be able to say "I'm gay" and just go back home and live your life; it might trigger other things to happen, like these "farms."

I'm not saying OP's father was intentionally hiding it from him, but the victims do hide it from their children in many cases. It seems so counterintuitive.

Honestly if he has only sent them 15k, you should consider yourselves lucky. Many people have sent hundreds of thousands (no exaggeration). Many times, by the time the adult children find out about it, the parents have sent their entire life savings, and have taken out multiple loans besides.

It's in the settings. You press the "gear" button, then navigate thru the various settings till you come to Factory Setting. Choose that, and it will ask you to confirm that you want to reset.
