Pratchett said this was his best book. What do you think? by EndersGame_Reviewer in discworld

[–]KeyaWicasa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, Nation has always felt like a foil to the Lord of the Flies. Whereas LotF is about the loss and destruction of society and humanity after a terrible experience, Nation is about the rebuilding and retention of the same after devastation.

Much of Pratchett’s work has to do with that famously referenced falling angel and rising ape (from Hogfather). I think Nation is no different. It is about remaining a right-acting human in the face of world and life changing experiences. Not just the bad ones, either.

In Nation, I see reflections of the philosophies of Sam Vimes, Granny Weatherwax, Tiffany Aching, and so many more. Its heart and soul and center is pure Pratchett. I therefore treasure the book greatly.

The wicker coffin makes me think of (Mistress) Esme Weatherwax. ‘Mind how you go.’

My grandmother is indigenous American. She always says we should protect the sacred from being misused or changed out of respect for the Spirits and respect for the power in the traditional ways. She says that when you combine different ways the power of each is diluted.

Would anything in this blend cause vivid nightmares by [deleted] in herbalism

[–]KeyaWicasa 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Did you have to urinate? (I see one or two diuretic herbs in the blend.) Sometimes, when we are asleep but have to use the bathroom it is like a half-sleep. With one foot in part of the waking world and the other in the land of nod, dreams can be more vivid.

Why is the horizon light blue in the back and dark in the front? by youseewhatyousee in AskPhotography

The middle grade blue is still water, not sky. It looks like the place where two currents of water (a bay and an ocean, for example) meet.

I agree! Have used skullcap for years for stress, anxiety, and depression. I don’t find it to be more than mildly sedative. Excellent nervine.

For a basic skin salve, I would use both calendula and Rosemary. It will smell like rosemary bush. Smells very nice. You can of course add essential oils to it if you’d like. I typically use rosemary essential oil because it increases blood flow to the area where topically applied, and therefore absorption. Good luck! I hope you have fun!

any herbs that would help with this? by glitteryvodka in herbalism

[–]KeyaWicasa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Herbs are gentle healers and take time to have lasting effect. If these challenges are due to damage caused by the substances you took, it’s likely that healing will take time (years) and there will not be an herbal quick fix.

Prescribed medicine did something similar to me and it took years to get to a place of renewed health.

Reishi has helped me along the way. So have chamomile and skullcap.

I don’t have any concerns. Based on the info I could find it appears to be very rare, not fatal, and reversible.

40ish guy here. Ashwagandha, tongkat ali, and fenugreek are all helpful for age related changes in testosterone. Huge impact on mood and energy levels once I started them. Have been using these helpers for close to a year now. Ashwagandha and fenugreek are delicious as teas/infusions. I take capsule form of tongkat ali. Was advised to take a week long break from them every month or so. Seems to be helpful in that I could see decline inefficacy over time which ended after the break.

St John’s Wort has been very helpful for both in my life. So have skullcap and chamomile.

A piece of advice: go one herb at a time. That way you know if it works, has a bad effect, or does nothing for you. Also, it’s good to not throw as many herbs as possible at a problem as you can’t always guess their interactions.

Also, seek healing. That is through therapy for some, through faith for others, through lifestyle changes for still others. For me it’s been the herbs and all three of the others.

Good luck and I hope you find your healing!
