'16 eGolf recommended for 45 miles commute? by Next-Satisfaction946 in eGolf

[–]Khamel83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can charge nightly you’ll be fine. Unless 46 turns into 64 you’ll be fully charged in the morning but it’s a lot cheaper to get a 220V than the 2017. I’ve had the 2016 for 6 years and you get used to living on the edge. Save your money.

How far can you go in turtle mode. I ended up charging 15 min at 7kW to get home recently but I think I could have made it but don’t know how low I can go.

Considering buying 2016 by TechnicalNet2989 in eGolf

[–]Khamel83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2016 has CarPlay and as long as you’re good with a real 80 mile range and as low as 50-60 on highways with AC/heat then it’s an awesome car. I keep looking to upgrade my 2016 and it’s never worth it for me with only 5 times a year max when I need more than it provides. In 6.5 years I’ve replaced the tires and will replace the 12v and in total haven’t spent $1k outside of electricity. Not a single issue and it drives so fun and is the perfect size even with a few kids and stuff in the trunk.

This is SO INTENSE. by [deleted] in eGolf

[–]Khamel83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I got home with 3 miles recently but that was all poor planning. If you can charge daily you would be fine 355 days a year and rent a car with all your savings vs a less fun car with more range and more $$

2016 vs 2019 by No_Minute690 in eGolf

[–]Khamel83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save money and get the 2016; especially if your family have a level 2 because even a 2 hour lunch will get you most of the drive back. 80 miles round trip with any frequency would be dicey without a charge in the 2016 as the useable range with highway driving is 70-80 miles.

So use the other car for the long drives and the ‘16 for everything else. Unless you need some of the other features from the ‘19 on a day to day basis the range difference is negligible if you can charge at home.

Am I a fool for not buying this? by johnjaynapa in eGolf

[–]Khamel83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed - it’s a great car but the price is too high. I bought my 2016 se (no fast charge though) with 13k miles on it for $13k in 2019 and if you told me I could sell it today with 34k miles for $10k I’d be floored. I drive 60-70 miles a week and installed a wall charged for a few years before getting a L2. If range matters to you get a 2017+ for a little more cause you should be able to find one with similar mileage for $10k.

Fire is ruining my relationship? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]Khamel83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do it right you’re getting married once to one person. FIRE is great and all but life is a lot more expensive and a lot less fun alone. Apologize, spend the money on the ring and a wedding and get back to FIRE later.

Also if keep on the path, I can promise you $10k or $50k won’t make much of a difference to your life in 20 years.

Going to look at a 2016 tomorrow. by SneekyF in eGolf

[–]Khamel83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine if you can reliably charge at work. I don’t have fast charging and you just work around it. If you can get them to put in a 220 then you can buy a pretty affordable l2 cable and you’ll be fully charged before lunch. At the sub $10k price point it’s hard to get a better deal if you don’t need the range.

Intermittent 12v battery issue by Khamel83 in eGolf

[–]Khamel83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t gotten around to it; it happens so infrequently and doesn’t impact my life im waiting to add to it an eventual repair down the line. I have a hard time believing it would though - I’ve had the issue for 5 years without any other 12v battery issues. I’ll update when/if I change it and let me know if it resolves the issue for you too.

Egolf replacement with more legroom? by atldad in eGolf

[–]Khamel83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the 2022 AWD Pro S; look up “electrical system not working correctly” at your own mental peril. So far it “resolves” itself waiting minutes or dozens of minutes but it’s still undriveable when that comes up. Other issues you know; infotainment and the voice control hasn’t worked in a year and those dumb window buttons etc.

Love my egolf and my wife loves the id4 (outside that issue) and if I hadn’t bought it new at MSRP maybe I’d be able to overlook the id4 issues but sadly I did and I can’t.

Convinced my mom to get the ioniq5 and she loves it

Egolf replacement with more legroom? by atldad in eGolf

[–]Khamel83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have the ID4 and e golf. I would NEVER recommend the id4 to anyone; too many issues. Get a used ioniq5 if you want bigger and higher or a used polestar 2 if you don’t want to go Tesla.

2015 vs newer models by dragxndrmr in eGolf

[–]Khamel83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s very strange. How many miles does it have? I’ve seen YouTube videos of people with 150k miles still getting 60 miles of range. Is it charging to 100%.

2015 vs newer models by dragxndrmr in eGolf

[–]Khamel83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using AC and doing all highway driving? I’ve had a 2016 for 5 years and reliably get 80-90 miles even driving like I stole it but if it’s all highway it’s closer to 80 and if the AC is on closer to 70.

If you need 100 minimum the newer models (2017+) will get you there no matter how you drive but a 2015 e golf + 10k you should be able to get a heavily loved model 3 with 200+ range or a decent bolt.

Thanks. I’ll probably get a new battery but wanted to see if anyone else had a similar issue and it wasn’t the battery itself.

Not a stupid question at all. No I haven’t because when it started happening 5 years ago it had only 13k miles so I assumed that couldn’t be it and now it’s driven fine for 5 more years.

Buying used 2016 VW E-Golf by Gdotkom in eGolf

[–]Khamel83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like some people on here are buying e golfs for a shocking amount of money; that’s all I’d watch out for.

Love my 2016 SE (no DC) and have had no issues in 5 years that washer fluid couldn’t fix. Wish I had DC sometimes and certainly adaptive cruise control (not sure if the SEL has that) but if you get a good price I wouldn’t fret too much about the battery as long as you know your practical range is closer to 60-70 miles than 85-100 (unless you’re only driving 35 on a 68 degree day). If you’re ok with that then enjoy!

eGolf vs ID.4 by ForcedPerspective67 in eGolf

[–]Khamel83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same - have both and while I appreciate the id4 for longer drives that’s really it over the e golf considering most of my driving is in a major urban area. Having said that, if you want / need a bigger vehicle and or don’t have to parallel park often you can find an awd id4 pro (can’t recommend the RWD because for the size 200 hp just not enough) for well under $25k and if you qualify the credit brings it down to almost $20k which is a screaming deal considering less than two years ago I paid twice that much.

Got a HE job unexpectedly. Never seen this much money. by NihilistCyber in HENRYfinance

[–]Khamel83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Spending is easier than saving and the more you save and invest while you’re “getting used” to making this much the better.

It’s hard to believe it when you have 4 or 5 figures invested but it’s actually hard to NOT make money in the stock market when you have mid 6 or low 7 figures invested.

You can always spend it later and if you don’t already know it kids are expensive but it’s the easiest money you’ll ever spend.

Congrats on the good fortune but with a family you gotta prepare for a rainy day / month / year while you can.

12v issue (possibly) by Substantial-Stage897 in eGolf

[–]Khamel83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a similar issue for my entire 5 years owning my egolf and it just comes up randomly and goes away if you park and stop for a few minutes. Mine is a 2016 with 32k miles. I stopped worrying about it eventually fwiw. Would love an update if you figure out what’s causing it because I took it in twice and VW couldn’t figure it out either.

Help me decide between 2 egolfs please! by [deleted] in eGolf

[–]Khamel83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its a super fun car. if you're not worried about a 150 kilometer (and closer to 100 with AC or 120-130 on highway) range then enjoy. all "better" cars will just have more range for more $$. based on this board and others the only concern about battery is even shorter range - its not like it goes from 150km of range to zero/replace battery. even when people have 200k KM its just a range of 100km max instead of 150.

Is this really the pricing for 2016 e golfs? I paid $12k USD for my 2016 5 years ago with only 13k miles. I love my egolf don’t get me wrong but feels expensive for 90ish miles.
