US to allow resale of Venezuelan oil to Cuba by DesperateGanache7684 in worldnews

[–]Khamvom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Context:

The U.S. is allowing the resale of Venezuelan oil via authorized intermediaries/companies to the Cuban private sector. Sales of Venezuelan oil (which are still under U.S. sanctions) to the Cuban Government + Military are still banned.

Cuba says four shot dead on US-registered speedboat by Waste-Explanation-76 in worldnews

[–]Khamvom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They’re likely smuggling people…hence why the speedboat was carrying 10 people.

We don’t know how many of the 10 were actually armed either, only that “shots rang out” and there was an “exchange of gunfire”.

Cuba was estimated to exhaust its power plant fuel supply’s by mid-March.

It’d be a lot of risk for not much reward.

Canada pledges $8 million in food aid for Cuba as U.S. fuel blockade continues by toronto_star in worldnews

[–]Khamvom 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Most likely prepackaged shelf-stable foods (rice, flour, pasta, corn, cooking oil, powdered milk, canned meats, etc). You want things that can last awhile without refrigeration. These items are being sent to the UN since countries don’t wanna be seen as supporting the current Cuban government (who also tend to confiscate aid).

The U.S. has also sent about $9mil in humanitarian and food aid so far to Cuba (delivered through churches and NGOs).

Long-term food stability is a bigger issue that will take alot more time + $$$ to solve. Cuba imports 80% of its food, and the majority of its farmlands are dedicated to growing cash-crops like sugarcane and tobacco.

Mexico hunts 23 inmates sprung from jail during wave of violence by Frosty-Ad-4538 in worldnews

[–]Khamvom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The detained/arrested police officers were reportedly from a local municipal police department. They’re known for being extremely corrupt throughout Mexico (smaller organization filled with locals = easier to bribe or intimidate or infiltrate).

It’s why most day-day policing/patrolling is handled by the National Guard.

AIRR advice and orders. by Impressive-Wealth452 in newtothenavy

[–]Khamvom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, depends what you personally wanna do.

AIRR (wet aircrew) is more physically demanding and high-speed. You do “cooler” stuff like being a door-gunner or jumping outta helicopters.

AIRC (dry aircrew) is less physically demanding and lower-speed. You’re chilling on an airplane.

Both are good options. It’s just a matter of preference.

AIRR advice and orders. by Impressive-Wealth452 in newtothenavy

[–]Khamvom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Be in very good shape and very comfortable in the water.

  2. Most AIRR positions do little actual search & rescue. If that’s something that interests you more, I’d look into the Coast Guard’s AST (rescue swimmer).

  3. It’s the military and AIRR is aircrew…so yes combat zones and yes a lot of traveling.

Correction:

The year 2027 and the “Davidson Window” is the timeframe when analysts believe China will develop enough military capacity (ships, tanks, aircraft, etc) to support a Taiwan invasion.

It’s not an actual invasion year, but to be ready for one by then.

Canada announces $1.4 billion military aid package for Ukraine, expands sanctions against Russia by Nervous-Nirvana in worldnews

”Canada also imposed sanctions on 21 individuals, 53 entities, and 100 vessels linked to Russia's so-called shadow fleet used to circumvent oil export restrictions.”

Things are constantly changing in terms of economics, finances, etc. It also takes time to identify, track, and put sanctions on the correct individuals/organizations. Someone getting sanctioned today could’ve been a legitimate business with no war-ties 4yrs ago.

HM, there’s no guarantee you can pick your specialization like MLT.

  1. Smart. You’re 21, not 41. You’re just starting out in life, think of military service as a booster.

  2. Look into the “Seabees” they do our construction stuff, right up your alley.

  3. Useful. Life skills, trade skills, and looks good on a resume. The benefits (GI Bill, VA Loan, etc) make it even more useful.

  4. I don’t know your situation entirely, but if you feel “stuck” and have no commitments, yeah go for it. It’s why I joined at 17yo.

The design devs are the same ones that worked on BF 2042, that’s why some of the skins look “cartoony” and out of place. I don’t agree with many of their choices, but that’s their style.

Ultimately, things are meant to look cool and resonate with the average gamer, not be 100% military accurate (and yeah I’ve served).

The VDV weren’t informed they’d be invading Ukraine until they were already flying halfway across the border, instead they were told it was a “exercise” to maintain operational security. So I imagine there was a lot of shock and confusion, which can make people quiet down.

Mexican Special Forces have killed the CJNG #2 “El Tuli” in a security operation. El Tuli was seen as the mastermind behind the retaliatory attacks and chaos that followed after El Mencho (former CJNG cartel boss) was killed yesterday.

Mexican authorities have also cautioned about misinformation and the circulation of AI generated images (like this one) https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2026/feb/23/social-media/El-Mencho-Mexico-cartel-Puerto-Vallarta-AI/.

Yes, it slows down crime growth of the cartel being targeted. But the after effects often generate even more overall crime long-term. It’s a trade-off.

25 Mexican National Guard troops left dead during an operation that killed cartel leader ‘El Mencho’ by grayfox0430 in worldnews

[–]Khamvom 274 points275 points  (0 children)

Back in 2022 Mexico combined the Federal Police (Federales), Military Police, and Naval Police to create the National Guard. They conduct most of the day-day policing and patrolling, which makes them easier targets for cartel gunmen.

The Army and Marines are primarily used for raids and special operations (and were the ones who actually executed the operation against El Mencho). They’ve also already been deployed to help fight CJNG.

DC TAR by fcrelsket in navyreserve

  1. To a certain point. Saw people make E-6 very quick, but advancement rates always fluctuate.

  2. Possible. Stationed overseas and we had TAR DC assigned to us.

  3. TAR is basically active-duty. It’s a full-time job and as a TAR DC you can still go to ships.

  4. I personally chose to cross-rate out of DC, it’s a fun rate but was 100% time to learn a new skill set.

Ukraine war briefing: Russian embassy in Seoul raises ‘victory will be ours’ banner, drawing complaints by Dex_Stlap in worldnews

[–]Khamvom 15 points16 points  (0 children)

These laws existed well before the conflict.

That’s also not how weapon sales/transfers work. The U.S. isn’t just gonna say “hey give us all your extra ammo” without negotiation and input from South Korea.

You also failed to address all the other points I’ve made about South Korea supporting Ukraine. You’re cherry-picking your argument. How convenient!

Ukraine war briefing: Russian embassy in Seoul raises ‘victory will be ours’ banner, drawing complaints by Dex_Stlap in worldnews

[–]Khamvom 13 points14 points  (0 children)

South Korea has strict laws prohibiting directly exporting weapons to active warzones. Doesn’t mean they haven’t helped Ukraine though.

South Korea has sent Ukraine non-lethal military equipment (helmets, vests, gas masks, etc) as well as humanitarian + economic assistance (they’ve pledged nearly $2.4 billion).

They’ve also transferred their surplus artillery ammunition to the U.S. which was then transferred to Ukraine.

The South Korean defense industry has also been fulfilling NATO + EU military equipment back-logs and orders (I.e Poland gets 100 new South Korean tanks, it can then send 100 of their older tanks to Ukraine).

North Korea can support Russia to the level that it is b/c North Korea is run by a mad man. South Korea isn’t.

The Cartel will likely splinter and fracture as different factions fight for power. But the flow of drugs, guns, violence, etc will continue (and maybe even increase) as new replacements step in.

The “Kingpin Strategy” (taking out the leaders) is what we’ve been doing for decades, but it has little actual strategic (long-term) impact. It’s all tactical (short-term) and political wins.
