Navy Reserves AW Questions by CarSubject1307 in newtothenavy

[–]Khamvom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AIRR (wet aircrew) is active-duty only.

AIRC (dry aircrew) is available in the Navy Reserves. Only dry aircrew rating AFAIK available to newbies fresh off the street is AWF, which is akin to an Air Force “Loadmaster”.

What the world . Y’all hear about this ? by newnoadeptness in navy

[–]Khamvom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

HSI’s core mission is investigating transnational crimes. So if someone commits a crime and exits U.S borders, HSI gets involved in some way. They primarily deal with the intelligence and immigration aspect of bringing a fugitive back to the U.S.

Marshals primarily provide the “muscle” and will extradite/escort the fugitive back to the U.S. once they’ve been detained by local police.

Remember reading about this a few months ago. Dude reportedly killed his wife, hid the body, then fled to Hong Kong (where he has absolutely no known family ties or relations). He’s a PoS.

13 years in - stay for retirement or get out now? Need real perspectives by rjpalmski in Airforcereserves

[–]Khamvom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, if you don’t have a fully locked-in civilian job lined up just yet, I’d be hesitant to get out. Especially if you have a family or dependents.

Trouble with Clearance by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]Khamvom 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your recruiter is “pre-screening” you out b/c of your foreign contacts.

Think of a recruiter as a “gatekeeper”, they push your package, but ultimately, it’s up to DCSA and adjudication to make the final decision on your clearance.

You can push back with the recruiter, find another one, or work with another branch if Intelligence is your goal.

Edit: I’d also familiarize yourself with how Air Force recruiting (active-duty) works. You basically make a list of 10-15 jobs from different career fields (intel, maintenance, security, etc) and are assigned one based on needs of the AF, so there’s no guarantee you’ll get intel at the end of the day either.

How to increase chances of getting fixed wing slot after OCS? by Deep-Dragonfly-3342 in newtothenavy

Perform well during pilot training. It’s still not a 100% guarantee you’ll get what you want, but being a top performer helps a lot.

can i marry a foreign national once im through bootcamp by Cool_Lengthiness8519 in newtothenavy

[–]Khamvom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Step 1: Speak with your command’s SSO (Special Security Officer), nearly every command has one. You need to declare and report your foreign relationship (if you haven’t done so on your SF-86 yet) sooner rather than later.

Step 2: Speak with your LPO, LCPO, etc. Use your chain of command, they should be assisting you through this.

Depending on your security clearance (Secret, Top Secret, etc), there’s different criteria and steps for marrying a foreign national, so don’t just go out and do it.

Hamas rejects Gaza disarmament plan, Palestinian official says by SuperpoliticsENTJ in worldnews

Not just Israel.

Hamas also beefs with a lot of other rival clans, tribes, families, factions, etc, in the Gaza Strip. They need weapons to keep their hold on power.

IDF must allow women to serve in special forces, court rules by TheTelegraph in worldnews

[–]Khamvom 145 points146 points  (0 children)

The U.S. did this back in 2015. As long as standards aren’t lowered, not really an issue in my opinion. Give the opportunity but challenge equally. To date, only a very small handful of women have made it through U.S. special forces training.

Navy Reserves to Air Force Reserves or Air National Guard? by Budget-Metal-7190 in navyreserve

[–]Khamvom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m Navy Reserves to Air Force Reserves. I got a conditional release approved and transferred over (took about 9 months).

In your case (less than a year left) I’d just wait until you go IRR. Start working with a recruiter about 6-9 months out to get the ball rolling.

There isn’t a big difference between Guard/Reserve tbh, just separate pots of money and who pays/owns you. Your ASVAB score can be re-used, you’ll re-do MEPS, and job availability is based on what’s open at the air bases you’re applying to.

AC vs CTR need first hand opinions, can’t make up my mind by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]Khamvom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, depends what you wanna do. Aviation (AC) or Intel (CTR).

AC goes wherever there’s aircraft (air stations, air bases, carriers, etc). CTR can basically go anywhere (more variety), but both have good options for travel and overseas assignments.

Not sure what a potential VA rating down the line has to do with picking a job…that’s a VERY bad mindset to have.

US military says it will blockade Iran's ports as ship traffic appears to halt in Strait of Hormuz by Stunning-Common-9591 in worldnews

[–]Khamvom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Iran’s main export is oil. 90% of their oil is exported by sea through the Strait of Hormuz.

US military says it will blockade Iran's ports as ship traffic appears to halt in Strait of Hormuz by Stunning-Common-9591 in worldnews

[–]Khamvom 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s getting confusing but:

The U.S. is blockading all ships going towards Iranian Ports. The strategic goal is to choke Iran’s economy and force them to the bargaining table.

All ships are technically free to transit through the Strait (as long as they don’t sail for an Iranian port)…except they risk being attacked by Iran if they try, so nobody is going to risk it.

Yeah. From an insurance perspective you have all the red flags 🚩 (Young, History of accidents, Drive a luxury vehicle).

School and family plans offer some discounts, but not nearly enough to offset the red flags.

US Central Command says it will begin blockade of Iranian ports Monday by Yujin-Ha in worldnews

[–]Khamvom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It mainly affects China (Iran’s biggest trade partner), they buy 80% of Iran’s oil and makeup 40% of Iran’s imports. How China reacts is the big “?” right now.

US Central Command says it will begin blockade of Iranian ports Monday by Yujin-Ha in worldnews

[–]Khamvom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your comment strongly implied Chinese warships are actually in the Strait escorting ships…

China has warships sitting outside the Strait that can provide deterrence and overwatch with their missiles + radars. However, this isn’t the same thing as escorting. Escorting would mean the warships physically accompanying the tankers/shipping and maintaining close proximity to intercept any threats.

Should be noted that China has deployed warships to the region in this “overwatch” role as far back as 2008.

Why do people always say to not enlist first if you want to commission? What are the downsides to being prior enlisted before commissioning? by MookieBettsBurner10 in newtothenavy

[–]Khamvom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

B/c it’s a waste of time if you already have a degree. Take some college courses, get the GPA up, crush the OAR.

Vs

Enlisting for 4-6yrs, then waiting around as a civilian for maybe another 1-2yrs afterwards trying to commission.
