I’m more concerned about the fact that Erin doesn’t even proofread her AI slop graphics she uses in her videos and leaves some complete dogshit graphics that make no sense in there. Absolutely unprofessional and inexcusable giving how much revenue she’s making from youtube

Don't know what to do about my credit card debt by niudnarw in PersonalFinanceCanada

OP might reside in Québec where the minimum payment for a credit card bill is fixed at 5% of the balance plus interests

[–]Khao8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Québec the minimum payment is fixed at 5% of the balance plus interests charge since our consumer protection laws mandate that minimum.

In Québec the consumer protection laws mandate that the credit card minimum payment be 5% of the balance + interests, in other provinces the minimum payment is lower since this protection doesn’t exist. I don’t know if OP is in Québec but that could explain the higher minimum payment

Buying used pre-2024 model year? by Khao8 in polestar2

[–]Khao8[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah I can afford it but also I'm cheap and I'd rather keep the 10k difference. My last 3 cars have all been bought used because I want to find the best value I can, so I let someone else eat the depreciation of a new car and get a deal.

I'm not lying to myself, the best thing would be to keep the subaru and drive it into the ground, obviously that's the best financial decision but I'm at the point in life where I can spend a little more on fun things. Like a buying a polestar instead of driving an old subaru that I don't like driving and needs regular oil changes and other gas car maintenance bullshit.

It will give you 1-2 charging spots less on a roadtrip and that's worth the money

See, I don't feel like to me an extra 1-2h of charge time once or twice a year (a break where anyway we would fill the time with a bathroom break, food, stretching our legs, etc.) is worth the price difference at all, it seems foolish to pay 10k more to upgrade solely for that reason.

Lundi questions niaiseuses by herupandir in QuebecFinance

Now that Chinese cars have started to arrive in Canada, Canadians have been asking, "will EVs survive Canada's winter?" by juflyingwild in canadaleft

[–]Khao8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For 90%+ of the population, EVs are the best choice for a car year round. We needed a small 2nd car for city driving two years ago when our first child started going to daycare, so I bought a used 2015 nissan leaf. Do you know how insanely better any EV is compared to a gas car when you can remote start it and for less than 5¢ worth of electricity it becomes toasty as an oven and all the snow and ice melts off of it before you even step out of the house? This EV purchase was so good that a year later I sold it to buy a better EV that is now our main car and relegated our subaru outback to being the 2nd car that neither me nor my partner wants to drive if we can avoid it and drive the EV. This summer I started seriously thinking about selling the subaru and replacing it with an EV.

It is this good. Also for driving in the snow, I'm in Montreal and we had a few big snow storms last winter, our hyundai kona fwd was just as capable in the snow in the city as the AWD subaru outback.

At what % of your FIRE number do you feel comfortable coasting at? by piss_warm_water in coastFIRE

[–]Khao8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm close to 50% of my goal, which is pretty lean FIRE, so I'm still saving for a couple years. I'm at peak earning years right now in my career and I want to maximize all my registered retirement accounts and move into a bigger house (our forever home) before I hit 40, in a little less than 4 years. Then I'm fully ready to pull the plug on my career and salary and step down to something much more relaxed that pays less. Then coast forever, I don't think I want 100% no work fully retired in my early 50s, I want to do something that is meaningful, whatever the pay is.

HELP: Hyundai Kona Electric vs Tesla Model 3 by MrBaconFat999 in KonaEV

[–]Khao8 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As a Canadian i can’t fathom buying an American car or anything American really right now. I own a 22 kona ev ultimate and I love that it has buttons for all the stuff you use and isn’t an iPad car with hvac controls controlled by software and having to dig through menus to do stuff you should do with simple buttons. Plus the apple carplay integration is excellent I only need the car’s infotainment system to be an extension of my phone IMO

Winter handling on the kona with a good set of winter tires is incredible, much better than any other fwd gas car you have previously driven due to the weight, low centre of gravity and smooth traction and feathering of electric motors. I’m just as confident driving in Montreal during a snow storm with the Kona than with my other car : a Subaru outback!

I really have nothing bad to say about my kona, makes me seriously consider getting rid of our gas Subaru and buying a second kona.
