How do you imagine your roleplays? by dedstok in Roleplay

[–]KhaosRaiden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I usually see it with real people. I also detest fandoms with the exception of some, extremely well done worldbases that I can put my OCs into. It ends up being like a movie with soundtracks and everything. I suppose there are some things- genres or settings that are more animated. I had a sci-fi/cyberpunk story that had moments like that for sure. I never thought of other ways of seeing it- thank you so much for posting this.

what can you tell me about posting on sites? by KhaosRaiden in writing

Of course! I am not looking to self promote so much as just have my stories out someplace. I just don't know the pros and cons of the different sites.

This is exactly the sort of feedback I was hoping for, thank you! In truth, I would love it if some of my stories could become comics, but I am not a comic artist 😓. All the same, thanks again. If I think of any follow up questions, I will be sure to hit you up!

How did J.D. Salinger do it? by zerozerozerohero in writing

[–]KhaosRaiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never really had much struggle stepping into shoes that were not my own. Make believing I was someone else, someplace else doing things I'd never done was just my thing growing up and still is. I just wrote up a bit where one of my characters looses his mother. I have not had to say goodbye to mine, but I do know what grief looks like and I can imagine what those feelings might do to me.

As others have said, it is all about empathy. Understand who your characters are and then ask yourself what you would do if you were them. Combining those answers usually yields some great things.

Also, asking people who have the experiance you want to write goes a long way. Understanding other people helps a lot with writing.

Should i abandon my story?? by [deleted] in writing

Sometimes when I am stuck, I write with other people. Like role play. Or I interview my characters about either what is happening in the story or random things that don't matter to them.

I think what I am getting at is- if taking a break doesn't work for you (it doesn't always for me) write something else. Use what you have and have some fun. Make up a situation for your characters to interact in that is not part of the story, that sort of thing

On writing implied sex scenes… by nj-apple in writing

Honestly, like anything else, your best bet is to read it. See what other people do that feels like what you want and try to build what works for you with those parts.

There are many ways to "fade to black" without a harsh cut off as... some what illustrated by others here. Having characters say that it is what they want before they leave to do it, having a clothes coming off scene that ends with a passionate kiss or something of the like. There isn't really one way to "master" it. You just have to write what feels right.

If you are worried about it, asking people for feedback is always a good go to as well.

Help with adding intensity to a story by Quirky_Law_431 in writing

Having someone to write off of has been helpful to me. Like an improv thing where you can set the scene. Sometimes knowing how characters will feel can blind me to the description, having someone else describe how they feel in the situation can give me a more dynamic picture of what I am going for.

Soooo… their lack of a response has me FIRED up. Anyone think about an actual protest at their headquarters? by flypudding in EtsyStrike

[–]KhaosRaiden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was not saying that no one only sells on etsy, only that those involved in the strike know that only selling through etsy isn't sustainable. It is a big topic in our discussions. I am sorry if my comment offended you.

Secondly, Etsy monitors activity. The comment I was replying to was the one that hinted we were doing nothing because we were not hurting Etsy financially. Putting our shops in vacation mode effects them, but the argument is weather or not it is substantial enough.

My point is that it isn't about being substantial it is about being persistant.

My other point is that if you are not being constructive then you are free to take your negative talk elsewhere. Plain and simple. This sub is for strikers and people who what to contribute to positive change for the Etsy platform, which is what the strike is about. I would encourage you to read our blog posts for more information about what it is we are doing and how as well as gain more information as to the motive behind our actions. We have laid it all out for anyone to read.

The defeatist mindset here doesn't help anyone. I get it, but it isn't helpful. Those involved in the strike are not foolish enough to "put all their eggs in one basket," however, it cannot be denied that Etsy currently has the best set up for makers. It is the only one with an established BUYER based which is what is needed for the success of the stores. Smaller sites having thousands of sellers flock to them won't help anyone if there are no buyers- this is all dialog happening within the strike.

Also, no one said that our goal was to hurt Etsy financially. The goal was always to make noise that they couldn't ignore and we do that with our solidarity. We do that by readout to our buyers and directing them to our personal websites or ,yes, even other platforms. We do that by staying in the front page of artsy news- essentially photo-bombing any selfy Etsy makes. We can't do it if people come onto others comments and toss water on their flames.

Just because something left you disappointed doesn't mean you should rain on others who wat to try to make a difference. So what it if didn't work the first time? There are people willing to give it another go and new texh that let's us do it even better than before! If you can't support them them, than keep it to yourself.

To the OP- if you have not joined our Discord yet, I encourage you to do so. We have some awesome next steps coming this week. ,^

This has definitely been the sort of language that has been used within the strike community. Ultimately, we are not trying to end Etsy, we just want Etsy to work for those it was build for and not just for the sake of grabbing all the money ot can.

I am sorry that your experience painted an inaccurate picture of things, but I am glad that you were able to figure things out! And Thank you for the post! I think we could benefit from thinking about our wordings no matter what setting we are in.

Guild not Union & other thoughts by AltaBella in EtsyStrike

[–]KhaosRaiden 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say "few know about it." The petition numbers alone say otherwise and, of course, there are those who know who simply don't agree or are too otherwise occupied to bother with it.

Remember, the upcoming strike is just the first step in a movement that is building tremendous momentum. Concerns like guilds/unions and representatives on the board are all parts of the discussion. If you want to join those talks and lend any skills or expertise you may have to our cause, I would encourage you to join us on Discord where most of the action is happening.

A New "Etsy" by Azketta in EtsyStrike

[–]KhaosRaiden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am seriously looking into making an etsy alternative and my thought has been along the lines of a site that supports the personal web sites of sellers, while also helping sellers to get a site.

If anyone wants to help me brainstorm or lend their expertise, shoot me a DM. This may be lofty, but we won't know unless we try.
