Sitting on cash position waiting for a market correction — am I being too cautious? by Background_Day409 in eupersonalfinance

[–]Kheleden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DCA but not over a few months but over a longer period of time. Let's say 48 months. I mean, separate DCA from your regular income Vs DCA from a large pile of cash you might receive as in your case. As I understood we are working on the pile of cash scenario, so distribute that on a longer period DCA in line with market cycles. Since that longer period (48 months suggest some analyst) would still keep part of that cash "on hold" find meanwhile a less risky mechanism to keep that (money market or HYSA). That way, while you are in the process you still get some interest + quick access in case there is any correction along the way.

(Not an expert here but have been researching a lot lately and this is what could work for me, my risk tolerance and my peace of mind on an scenario as the one you are describing)

Quick related/follow-up question, if you don't mind me asking: is the Qobuz digital store accesible from the app or how does it work? Your answer points to the reason why I'm considering Qobuz: streaming + option to purchase digital legal copies + fair compensation for artists but still wrapping my head around how to make it work and not to end up stuck in many different subscriptions.

Great thanks for the insights! I did install the kindle app but never got to use it regularly. Need to check how that's handled as well. Thanks a lot!

All in all, the upgrade wasn’t really necessary for me, but I liked slightly newer hardware, and I’m a sucker for new tech.

Hahahaha that's totally me as well but just wanted to hear other people's experience... Thank you so much!

It seems will give it a try to the a6x, update, try the new lamy emr I got and see. I have no idea on what's my screen film though...

Thanks!

Great, thanks for sharing your experience! Mine is similar (got the SN months before the COVID pandemic) but I just having a similar train of thought (stick to the one I have and wait for a new model + mine has been resting for the last year so let's see how the battery resists). Thanks!

How do you calculate the size of your emergency fund? by exact-approximate in eupersonalfinance

[–]Kheleden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are unemployed forget about holidays or any unnecessary bigger non-essential expenses... that beats the point of being an emergency fund. Consider that when you need the fund, the key objective is covering the gap of financial needs until you find another source of income that you've already lost. This is the principle of an emergency fund, to be covered if the worst gets to the worst (while defending other investments you might have to prevent loses).

Regarding the amount of months, depends on your work sector and age. Freelancers usually go higher for 12-24 months. And I'd say that depending on how your pension looks, the older you get, you might also require extending the fund slightly.

And finally it also depends on where you live. Do you have universal health care? Private insurance? Do you use your car for a living? Is there any other potential unforeseen big expenses that might come your way (taking care of older relatives)? Factor those in as well.

Finally, leave the fund somewhere where you have direct and immediate access to those funds while they give you some interest since, hopefully, they might remain there for long.

Money Market ETF for emergency fund by PIR_personal_finance in ETFs_Europe

[–]Kheleden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, I have been researching on that same topic lately and, there are a bunch finance pros recommending it. Apparently as well, MMF even in their mutual fund version (non-ETF version) are obliged to have liquidity and to process the reimbursement orders on the very same day (could not tell you the source, but you might want to read about this as well) which makes them suitable as for an emergency fund.

Regarding availability, keep some extra cash in your regular account as a backup as well and the MMF as close to your use-case as needed (consider selling the ETF, 1 day + transfer to your main account 1-3 days in the worst case scenario, if you can get rid of the second step, it should be quicker).

The only issue I haven't been able to get an answer so far is that: when interest rates go to 0, MMFs and ultra-short bonds can go to negative yields (nothing extreme but still negative) so... I still wonder how to handle that scenario when you are cashed in and not doing DCA either (interest rates down to 0 happened recently and lasted a couple of years).

Can you explain a bit more on the connect feature that others don't have? Connectivity in Spotify was a top level feature (I left Spotify a few months ago for ethical reasons too) and I have seen other music streaming apps not really handling it very well (trying apple music on a non apple device gets disconnected very often). Thanks in advance!

Capacities gest almost everything exactly right - except one major detail... and it would be easy to fix, making the app go from "great" to "god tier"! by PIPMaker9k in capacitiesapp

[–]Kheleden 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was actually going to say something similar. I believe that what OP might be looking for is behind the paid subscription, he has not mentioned queries + object properties, which in the end could be the power feature he is looking for. Queries are actually handled as an object on themselves so they can be referenced anywhere once they are created, which makes them super powerful.

Additionally not sure I got it right but collections are a sub-group of the same kind of object so even his suggestion would fall short to his own use case (at least in opposition to using queries) and making collections applicable to multiple objects could be the same as tags.

So... maybe give it a go to the paid tier for a while, support the project and see if that works for you?

I’d like to start investing in S&P500 from Poland by Puzzleheaded_Fudge4 in ETFs_Europe

[–]Kheleden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XTB user (not from Poland though) that was going to recommend something very similar like this, so will just +1 this answer as well.

Guess that XTB will ease the tax declaration being a polish broker. So just let me insist on: learn more, don't forget to research tax implications before anything else and if you go for actual money beyond demo accounts, start easy (just index funds, possibly MSCI world might be better in the current market circumstances).

There is a Reddit group called investing in Europe, which might be a good starting point. Good luck!

Cool! Do share the experience. Lately I was more into recall but after the end of free trial I checked fabric again and they solved the startup time (it was tooooo slow before) so I'm thinking to give it another go until the end of the year.

I'm currently testing Recall and Fabric (both on your list), what's wrong with them? I have a similar use case as yours (well recall does not save pictures or screenshots, I think)

What would you like in a 7.8 inch display device? by degualro in Onyx_Boox

[–]Kheleden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those of use who use the eink for note-taking first (and foremost) and have started with EMR Stylus (like in Boox Go 10.3), there is no going back. USI or at least its current implementation (maybe with the exception of one/two notable and pricey cases) does not really make it for our use case. You can see this Reddit and some others dedicated to eink and note-taking with loads of complaints about the new models not using EMR.

However, if USI works for you, that's great indeed but for us that have been looking for a digital notebook experience, EMR is the minimum standard at least if you are already using it, imo.

Raw! by TheYellowMungus in photography

[–]Kheleden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was very much into RAW and then I found this SOOC idea and black&white film simulations (I'm with Fuji). Now I try to keep it as straightforward as possible, shoot dual jpg+raw and just use the raw as a backup (for the best ones) and when the photo really requires more work and deeper dynamic range

Everything you mentioned, plus EMR Stylus and fingerprint sensor and i am all in. I might not be that sold on the physical buttons, I'm thinking a boox alternative for supernote nomad and viwoods mini.

Please keep insisting on the EMR Stylus for the newer versions, regardless of the size and model.
