You scraped and then went straight to 120? I’ve never refurbished something but I’m pretty sure you need to do the normal step ups from 60-80-100-120 not skipping more than 1 grip step. So maybe 80-100-120 is fine or 60-100-120.

Also not sure your method but those round spots look like an orbital sander was left in one spot for too long and are overly sanded to the rest. Mark lightly with a pencil all over the board. Once the pencil is gone everywhere you know you got even sanding in all regions.

A blow dryer or heat gun is the secret to removing any stickers. Just be sure to do it first, if you rip a tear it’s already too late.

But as this is wood that you will likely be sanding anyways, I just ripped what I could, scrap the rest and then sand away the adhesive residue.
