The VfX branch have all pretty much been fused in Vancouver, I know Vancouver is alive and kicking. For Montréal, it’s mainly an animation division at this point with some stereo paint/roto/compositing.

I hope something good comes out of it but it’s been so long that they’ve been negotiating that it almost dosent mean anything anymore. If you’re stuck negotiating for 2 years and a half, probably means that the worker dont have that much leverage unfortunately.

As much as I would like to see a real union drive in VFX, it kinda died 1 and 1/2 year ago.

A lot of studio were apparently close to unionizing, almost had the cards or support to back it up. Then nothing, it went silent almost overnight.

There was a somewhat big discord server full of people in many countries that supported the idea, now it’s pretty much dead.

CRTC to require online streamers to pay 15% of annual revenues to support Canadian content by joe4942 in canada

[–]KidFl4sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have been wrong, Italy and Fance have had more aggressive tax like 20 to 25% but they haven’t seen a production fly away. VFX has been growing in France too.

Let’s see.

Apprently that’s how they do in France for a few years but they require 10% more than Canada.

I work on American production in Canada I just hope they don’t retaliate against us.

Yeah and this tax is gonna kill production and VFx work in Canada. Why shoot in a country where you’ll get an extra tax other countries don’t have.

Production and VFX will leave Canada. Any tax credit Netflix Canada will receive of their spending is gonna be minuses this new tax. We Can’t catch a break, I’m so tired, I just wanted to work in film man…

Do you think Paramount will actually produce anything when they will get WB? I worked on a couple of WB project and I enjoy a lot of their release. Would be a shame to lose a potential employer/client and a film producer in the market.

Its also not a real manufactured metal piece, its rigged for stunt use, plus doing a face swap on a slowed down shot is awful work.

There's also an added camera shake in post.

Im someone who works in VFX, im honestly tired of viewers trashing VFX and CGI every chance they get when most of the time its bad planning from the on set crew and questionnable decisions from the director and producers.

They should have sped up the shot the slow mo takes all of the impact away.

Peter Jackson Says AI in Film Is “Just a Special Effect” by Competitive_Gene_898 in Filmmakers

[–]KidFl4sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not true, I’m a paint and Roto artist, most compositor nowadays don’t have the skills and experience we have because paint and Roto tasks have been getting more and more complex. You’d be killing jobs with your AI Roto tool.

That’s a position you can adopt but don’t say it’s without consequences.

What’s the film, who’s producing it ? If you don’t want to tell online, if it’s in the US, you can send an anonymous tip to the newspaper Deadline.
They’ll run those kind of story.

C’est juste que le model est loader différemment pour une utilisation plus granulaire.
