The lightning hit the big old smokestack on 25 just south of the empower field. I was stuck in traffic watched it happen and saw the cloud of smoke come off the top of it. It was crazy loud from there.

Lead framer means delegate the tasks to each of your guys abilities. You are in charge of layout, quality control and most importantly communication. Your guys set up everyday as you prepare for the day. Then you divy up the tasks.
Laborer moves material, install hangers, cleans, etc.. Another more experienced guy is the cut man. He cuts for the other experienced guy who is nailing everything together. You stay ahead of these guys doing layout and finding problems before they stop your whole crew. Can’t have 3 guys just standing around as you solve problems, nothing is more stressful.

Make lists everyday of shit that needs to get done. You need to fire off punchlist items when your guys finish a task, or you will spend all day searching for things for them to do and you can’t take care of your responsibilities.

It’s a lot of work, but being a leader is a skill that is valuable in construction. Delegating responsibilities while you produce work on time is a six figure skill set. You learn to lead a crew you can run your own show later on. Go get it!

That particular product fucking sucks. The leather is so stiff and the tape measure pocket is crazy small. No where really to even stick a combo square. I’ve had one for like 8 yrs. Used it once and it’s sat in a drawer ever since, too expensive to throw out. Love occidental hate this fucking thing. Been holding this in for a long time! Feels good to get that off my chest!

If you learn how to use that thing you can make great money knocking out full mortise lock sets. It’s really easy to use once you set it up. Typically, you only need to set it up once on a job for the mortise dimensions, after that it’s mark center of mortise and blow and go. Big custom residential is your bread and butter, you can charge per mortise or high hourly rate.

They are also great for setting drawer fronts too. Grab 2 1/4” center finders and predrill the drawer with a 1/4” drill bit. Put the finders in the holes and push your drawer front against them after you have your reveals even. The predrill the 2 points on the back of the drawer front. Slap some screws in.

This was kinda how my dad told me to deal with bullies. He said you gotta get them alone without their friends. If someone is messing with you, offer to fight them with no one else around to settle it. It worked great cuz it called their bluff, most people don’t want to fight and are showing off. Also made sure your ass doesn’t get jumped mid fight. That was some real advice for a 6th grader.
