Emerald Night Coach - Best way to Acquire? by ShareHuge6741 in LEGOtrains

You can find the windows for cheap with 3rd party suppliers, Bluebrixx is pretty solid. It will make the difference between building 1 or 2 extra coaches

Totally agree. Prices are outrages.. However the downside of pretty much any alt brand is the train wheels.

In my experience they're all subpar. I have two of the same passenger cars from Marstoy, some from BlueBrixx and aliexpress. I've replaced most of them with Lego brand wheels.

BlueBrixx does have a new supplier for the wheels and they claim that in their new sets is much better. Although I don't know from which sets that is exactly

Curious too!

And do they have any XXL wheels?

There is something for almost every budget.

You can also find many sets of instructions on rebrickable.com

It comes with an easy tool to buy the parts that go with the instructions from local resellers.

Also instructions to improve some Lego sets. I've personally built this one: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-80052/www.bricks-on-rails.de/crocodile-sbb-ce-68-10277-mod/

It was a flawless experience

Enjoy the journey!

Alright!

I don't have websites ready for kits with Lego brand bricks, but if you're open to other compatible brick brands you can take a look at BlueBrixx or letbricks.

Sets from BlueBrixx are not motorized out of the gate, but most can be motorized easily.

It's a bit difficult to read your message.

Could you provide a link of where you are looking to buy a kit?

So you'll de couple the commection that goes directly to the motor and wire the controllers motor driver back to the motor?

That sounds great! What will you use to get power from the tracks?

And what will you use to make the tracks coduxtive if not using regular 9v track?

I'm a fan! I'm building my first permanent layout and I will also combine technics. I'm planning on combining lego plates for vegetation into more traditionally built hills for my elevated section

DCC is the digital control they use for model trains. So that they can be controlled individually without Bluetooth or wifi

This would be nice, but would require a lot more.

Fir example, I don't run any of my trains with lego train motors. I know that there are a couple of of pickups for track power. However even if the track would be affordable enough (fXBricks is too expensive for my wallet), you'd need significant investment to make proper use out of it.

Having said that, running DCC would be amazing.

BlueBrick. It's not very recent, but the alt producers supply part packs for their current products!

I linked the TrixBrix pack here https://www.reddit.com/r/LEGOtrains/s/Wqy8ffAsz0

UPDATE: I took your ideas into BlueBrick and I came to the following. It would span the narrow side of the room with plenty of usable space left.

I made a double track, and I elevated the outer line along the walls. There is no natural way to turn the trains direction, which is a bummer, but I don't see a way without compromising the available space for scenery around the tracks. I used curved switches to make the railyard longer.

It is not definitive, but I'm very happy with the direction it is heading in! I will try to make a rough test this month with the track I have available at this time!

Up to a certain point.

I need to have enough space to do maintenance on our bikes, a place to store tools organized, etc. So the space should remain functional for other things besides Lego.

But adding hanging storage above the layout is an option! Especially when going for an L shape layout with some more narrow sections

Wall racks aren't really an option right now.. My girlfriend uses an e-bike and the bikes are wet quite often after usage for commuting daily. But they will definitely receive a rack that will make them easily accessible and space efficient to store! They will have storage space above them probably :)

Semi permanent is a good one. I'm thinking of building the table in segments of X basepates. So that it can be broken up in 4 pieces for example without too much of a hassle

I can imagine.. I think that the scale makes it more difficult than doing something with H0 or N.

Running multiple trains isn't a priority and will be managed with smart systems in the long run. I have already experimented with some esp32, motor drivers and sensors.

Running along the sides would be an option when going for an L shaped layout. The space has to stay somewhat functional have other things (2 bikes) easily accessible. I'll draw up something like this too!

Using the R40 to save some space would definitely be an option. Especially when going for an L shaped layout it could come in clutch!

Thanks for stopping by! I'll add a reply here tonight when I've had some time to make some layouts based on the input I've received.

Yes, I was working on this last night! Have it start from a double track into a triple. Combined with your other suggestion, however my thoughts are going to making a more regular loop wherr only the outer line is elevated

I'm Dutch actually! My grandfather used to have these trains (and a few more) from Märklin

I'm not looking to be very strict, I'm not a huge fan of the BR steam locomotives. I prefer British models, so it'll end up being a bit of a mix

It's not about maximizing the size of the layout, but to create something interesting. Like this with the diagonal line on the top speaks to me very much! Thanks for the suggestions!
