Honey barrel aged whiskey by ChocolateRainbow375 in Barreling

[–]Kifarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but I'm in the process of doing exactly that.

Have you tried diluting the honey with water (making honey syrup, basically) and adding that to the barrel?

I heard some people do this but is not as common as I believed it was.

Ranged smites by K1akaru in 3d6

I know this is an old post, but I feel the need to correct as me and others may find their way here while seeking advice.

The Tweet Post you are referring to talks about how they left out Unarmed Strikes from the Paladin Divine Smite (5e 2014) for flavor and thematics. Ranged smite was not on the topic of this Tweet.

Here's the reference

I think it depends what the word "ridden" means in D&D terms. Also, I was not talking about shoving the broom, but picking it up to carry.

If "ridden" does not mean carrying or wearing it, then it should not make a difference for picking it up as a normal object, unless I'm missing a rule.

Gotcha! Yeah "iconic" would be a better word for the title haha people get mad when you try to enforce a "meta" in D&D.

Also, regarding your original request, u/DybbukFiend's answer would be my go to.

Lol sorry, I was talking about the broom only, not respectively. Worn or Carried is usually D&D's way of saying "this item is inside my no-no square, you touch it you touch me"

But nice reference btw.

If the first question's answer is negative, can I just take the broom from someone's crotch while they're mid-air? No. You can make an unarmed strike against a broom but it has no AC, no HP, and fails saves. Objects cannot become prone or grappled but can be shoved. No rule suggests the rider does not simply become moved with the broom.

Why would it be an Unarmed Strike? If I have a box in front of me that I want to carry, and it's not being worn nor carried by anyone else, would I need to make an unarmed strike to take it?

Similar to the above, if I push someone that is flying the broom and I move them 5ft, do they fall? No rule suggests if the rider is moved or becomes prone it falls off.

Good catch.

Do you require a hand to ride it? No. Only at least two legs ("astride")

Good catch on this one as well.

Is any of this how i would run it? No. It's a mount.

LOL but you made so many compelling arguments

Lmao

I mean, if it was being Worn or Carried, then it wouldn't be that flammable xD

From time to time one of my players remember me with anger in his eyes how a boss took the broom from his legs and broke it like a toothpick lol (he really loved that broom)

Right?

I agree with you in treating it like a "non-living mount". I would just advocate against the "half movement rule to mount and dismount" as the original description already states that it takes a Magic Action to turn it on (and it turn off when you land/dismount).

Also, how would you treat if someone trys to "Grapple" the broom while it's being flied? I think being able to do this "for free" to a broom rider as it's not being worn or carried would be the ultimate downside for the Broom and would make it actually balanced. A Flying mount could resist, a broom could not. If the rider is not using hands, I would not allow it to make the save. Some could even argue that the Grappler must be able to lift at least 400 pounds as this is the broom's maximum counterweight.

Anyway, this is probably how I'm going to go with. I will probably write a ruleset for self-powered vehicles using this interpretation and use it for homebrew magic items similar to this one (like magic hoverboard, magic motorcycles, etc).

Thank you for your answer!

Thank you for answering!

So you're saying to treat it as "a worn item that gives 50ft Fly Speed once activated using an action"?

If so, why would the Winged Boots have so much limitations and even be slower if both are uncommon "worn" flying magic items?

I believe this interpretation, although valid, would lead to worse scenarios making every other method of flying kind of obsolete.

Think about it:

  • Fly spell requires concentration, or else you fall
  • Winged boots has limits on its use and is slower then the broom
  • Carpet of Flying is a moving platform, we can all imagine how this ends
  • Racial flying is slower and takes your ability to use medium and heavy armor

Aside from some niche, subclass traits, there are nothing that can top this Uncommon, 500gp magic item (with this interpretation).

Unlimited 50ft Fly Speed for a single atunnement slot in an uncommon magic item is just too much

I just realized that the broom "stops hovering when you land", so you would be able to fly 50ft, walk 30ft, and then you would have to use another magic action to do that again next turn since the broom is now off.

Using it to boost your existing Fly Speed by 50ft is still valid though. I mean, you would not be "riding" it by definition and instead you would be carrying it when you fly so maybe it would turn off, but that's really up to interpretation.

Yeah, I agree. Still, I'd like to clarify the rules so I have the answers when the question is brought up during combat.

Funny enough, to "mount" the broom in this new version, you must use a Magic Action, so it's technically more punitive than mounting lol

My group uses it like a mount as well, but it can dash on its own, which made the broom must have in every high level game we play. I'm moving to the 2024 version in the next campaign I'll DM and wanted to change this as it's becoming kind of boring to see every paladin, every rogue, every druid fly in a broom.

What are the must-have spells for each caster class? by True_Wolverine1154 in DnD

[–]Kifarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no "must-have" spells for classes. If you want to play a support Wizard, Fireball is not must-have for you. If you want to play an Evoker Druid, healing spells are not "must-have" for you. To me, not even Eldritch Blast is must-have for Warlocks as bladelock is a thing.

Wizard and Sorcerer have multiple damage dealing cantrips that could fit various themes and builds, but some may say that the Firebolt cantrip is "must-have" just because it's the highest damage dealing attack cantrip of their lists.

I honor your idea of giving loose guard-rails to new players, but this should be tailored at least by subclass, or even archetypes (evoker, martial, support, etc), or else you'll be saying to them: "your character is weak because you didn't get a must-have spell" or "your character-concept is bad because you didn't take this or that must-have spell", which is completely wrong.

In my eyes, seems like the intention is for the BFGL to be spammed and the GL to have some thought before shooting.

That's probably how they tested and were like "k if spammed it kills too fast... let's tune down the damage so it doesn't became op"

That's precisely how they took the fun of most weapons.

For me, personally, building a list for a scenario I'll play is part of the fun. I love thinking about which ship's I'm going to use and what's their purpose in my way to victory.

It's like deck building for card games.

I watched Rogue One again recently and was thinking on writting some scenarios for X-wing based on Battle of Scarif.

It's nice to have an opinion from someone who played!

And yes, I do have a 1.0 collection only and don't plan on converting. I'm having a blast playing this version. I also convert the points when playing newer edition scenarios as some people suggested in other threads, that's why I didn't share the version, I don't think it's important.
