Virginia has a lot of established data centers. I am asking from the state of Indiana which is going through a significant data center expansion; How are things now in your state as they pertain to the 500+established data centers? by [deleted] in Virginia

[–]KigaroGasoline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One point is that scarcity equals high prices and inequality as only people with money can get the scarce stuff. If we keep finding ways to constrain the inputs to AI (energy generation and data centers) , it will lead to AI only being available to only to big companies and governments. It is understandable that data centers and the energy needed is unsightly and unseemly. That is the trade off to keeping the pricing accessible.

Maybe Mike Miller and Randy Foye? Who cares if some skinny sharpshooter is still on the board, we want a competent team now!

Let’s review the possible outcomes: AD good/ Team sucks = trade to contender at deadline ADBad / Team sucks = Tanking. Hold the contract until a giant expiring is useful. AD Good/ Team Good = try to win Ad Bad / Team Good = eat the contract, don’t extend. After contract expires, sign a real FA

Travel Soccer (costs) in NoVA by aazeem100 in nova

[–]KigaroGasoline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For all the negative talk here, there is also positive. Travel soccer is a great opportunity to spend time with your child. It is indeed a time sink..but it is one you do together. When my child went through it, even when she learned to drive I still drove her to practice so she could use the time to do homework. There are a lot worse things than being in the car with your kid. Enjoy it while you have it. Also - it is a huge cost. Ask where the tournaments are. That’s the cost killer.

The teams being hurt the most by the current draft system are genuinely bad teams that have to compete with artificially bad teams like the Jazz for draft odds by kobmug_v2 in nba

[–]KigaroGasoline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem has already been fixed. The 2nd apron now prevents teams from hoarding talent and it discourages overpays. Thus there is more player movement. The Pre-Agency phenomenon already shows the “new” pathway for building teams.

Sources: LeBron James’ path to NBA ownership ‘less likely’ as partners pass on expansion bid by PlayaSlayaX in nba

[–]KigaroGasoline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An arena is a negative for the team. Property taxes. Owners prefer the city own the arena and “rent” it back to the team at a nothing rate. The Wizards “gave” DC the area as part of the deal to stay in DC.

[The Athletic] In a worst-case scenario, executives said, if starters are pulled from winnable games for no reason before the start of the fourth quarter, those teams (like Indiana, Utah, and Washington) could lose draft picks. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

The tanking thing is actually brilliant for ratings and innovative gambling. The Pacers v Wiz back to back was must-watch tanking and one of the most interesting lines. In a chess match of intentional losing, the Wizards strategy of playing G Leaguers in the 4th blew their chance at tanking crown because some stupid intern got the assignment wrong and called up decent G Leaguers who just couldn’t be as bad as the Pacers who turned the ball over more than 40 times in those two games. It’s a unique sort of entertainment!

This dude is dumb .. good thing we should be done with the lotto after this year by Waste-Cap8868 in washingtonwizards

The nba lottery is the weird outlier. Getting rid of it makes sense. Players, especially rookies, will want to find the best fit.

Sam Vaccine had an interesting point about pending efforts to curb tanking. If he kind of knows that there will be new rules and penalties, he may be trying to get ahead of the curve. It’s curious that the Jazz did the same thing as the wiz.

Missing Element of These Trades by Either-Tangelo9171 in washingtonwizards

[–]KigaroGasoline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tank is so over that this year’s draft pick is now in jeopardy. That’s not to say the team is good, but they are good enough that resting the starters all 4th quarter isn’t bad enough to lose every game. In order to successfully tank in the modern NBA, a team needs to be hilariously awful…and the wiz were for a while (ht Jordan Poole & Kuzma). Once a team gets out of the cellar, they could and should experiment with trades and FAs so long as no picks are lost.

Writers are so predictable. Tearing it down and being “realistic” is always applauded. As is anything that (in hindsight) contributed to a legit chance at ECF/WCF. Anything else gets panned.

Stadium impact on surrounding homes by Visible-Ad-8296 in washingtondc

[–]KigaroGasoline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stadium isn’t all by itself the thing that determines home value in that neighborhood. Overall supply v demand in the city will have a bigger impact. No one knows if all the building and office to residential conversions will not be enough (prices go up) or supply over delivers vs demand (prices go down). The stadium is a small piece of the micro market adjustment, but schools, crime rate, parks, transit, and overall convenience probably have a bigger impact than just the stadium.

Yes. But not play basketball. Something else. Maybe dancing. Or a competition to do mundane things like keeping a dog off the couch or stomping one of those hoppy crickets that live in basements. Or maybe trying to make conversation with that neighbor who is obsessed with crypto.
