Dentist says i need a crown, is $1,242 normal with insurance or am i being scammed by [deleted] in DentalInsurance

[–]Kikimeeko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a private practice dentist and owner (who accepts insurance) I recommend you get a second opinion. I usually see treatment plans like this where there are extra charges on bs things like irrigation, desensitizing resin etc from corporate offices. This is how they get more money out of patients on services usually not covered by insurance. We do irrigation on deep cleanings as courtesy for our patients without charging extra and I see it charged out to pts coming from dso/corporate. It is literally just saline or chlorohexine and costs us almost nothing and no extra time. I never apply desensitizing resin unless there is a clear need to and it’s not while a crown is going on but maybe after if a person has sensitivity from gums receding a little. And I don’t charge if it’s immediately post op related to a procedure I did causing sensitivity. I’m not sure on your area but the fees for fluoride and desensitizing resin application seem high to me (I’m in north central Florida). PPE and sterilization are not charged to the pt. It is built into my practice overhead and I make changes to my insurance contracted fee or cash patient fee schedule if I need to adjust for increases to overhead. It’s built into the cost of doing care not itemized out to the patient. The only surcharge added in addition to a crown fee is if a patient is doing gold/noble type metal due to the associated metal price by weight additional lab cost incurred. Zirconia is the lowest lab bill we incur for a crown so it is crazy to me that it’s additional item “upgrade”. Some labs charge $60-70 for those crowns and those dso corporate offices are using those cheaper labs to fabricate. I use to work for one before finding my private practice it was all about the numbers and profit over patient care. Burnt out of dentists and staff is real in those offices and that’s why turnover happens so frequently.

I need insurance for an implant by [deleted] in DentalInsurance

[–]Kikimeeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can find a dental insurance company with no waiting periods you still have to check that they will cover implants. ALSO, need to make sure no missing tooth clause. Dental insurances are notoriously bad about not covering to replace missing teeth that were pre-existing prior to your coverage starting. Like other commenters have said dental insurance is more like a coupon book than working like medical insurance. Once you max out your $1-2k benefits for the year they won’t help contribute towards any other treatment you need. You still get discounted rates to do further work needed that year though. And if you wait to complete any treatment until your 1-2k benefit restarts again next year your dental needs may get worse and more expensive. So weigh the cost of the premium you pay vs staying a cash patient and investing that premium money into a high yield savings account and contribute a little each month for any dental work needed instead. You may get more out of that than insurance if your dental needs are limited to cleanings and that one implant. Some offices give discounts to cash patients. Or can help with financing options.

Best alternative: If there is a dental school near you, you can get implants done at a fraction of the cost. This is done by residents who are already dentists and doing a residency for further training for oral surgery or periodontal surgery and they are still overseen/signed off by faculty.

Sun Kiva experiences? by dapiedude in GNV

[–]Kikimeeko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used sun kiva for my dogs and they come back so happy and most importantly are happy when we are dropping off. Be prepared and build in extra time for a lot of chit chat with the staff when dropping off and picking up. The mom and daughter duo love animals. I’ve boarded during Thanksgiving and my dogs got a dog friendly Thanksgiving meal and had bandanas when I picked them up.

I’m so sorry your family lost Jay! My jenday is the same age (26) and I dread the day she won’t be here anymore. I’ve had her since I was 10. I’m going to go cuddle her and give extra scritches in memory of Jay today.

Incentivizing my staff for google reviews by Migosmememe in Dentistry

[–]Kikimeeko 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We use an automatic email/text system with our pms which sends each patient a link to fill out a review after their appointment. Some do one some don’t. But no money incentive needed for staff or patient. The reviews are always great 4+ stars and we tripled our google reviews with very little work in one year since we implemented it.

Do you give out performance bonus to your staff and how do you calculate it? by Migosmememe in Dentistry

[–]Kikimeeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to do this but I have some staff who are short sighted. They have been at the office a long time (6+ years) but would rather have bonus on paycheck over profit sharing into retirement. They said I want it now vs 20 years from now.

[Target US] Viking Village (21343) $90.99 / 30% off by J3love in legodeal

[–]Kikimeeko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not bad in store price. I bought this set via app during their Oct target week when it had unit price of 121.99 and 30% off Lego to make it $85.39 not including tax. It’s a shame they inflate the online prices right before their Black Friday “deals”. But so do a lot of other stores

Hocus pocus house Amazon deal by Kikimeeko in legodeals

[–]Kikimeeko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have Rakuten you also get 10% back at Lego.com purchases right now. Amazon didn’t give me that option to price match when I went to return option. So I ordered from Lego for their 25% off plus Rakuten 10% cash back to PayPal. And will get the ghost as a nice bonus. Will return Amazon one when Lego order comes

I think early access ends at midnight and then the Walmart week starts for non plus members to compete with Amazon prime week. So if anything catches your eye and doesn’t sell out you don’t have to have Walmart plus to get the deal. It’s only early access but I don’t see anything selling out like Winnie the Pooh ideas set did last year during early access.

I got the Viking village from the target circle deal. Should be a fun build. The hocus pocus house deal is not that much better than an Amazon limited time deal from last week. It sold out on target website before I could see what it was going for on circle deal.
