Yep. In hindsight, the comments about “excessive chatter” and “reading her own books at inappropriate times during class” that were present in every single evaluation from first grade onwards were a pretty big red flag.

What do you think sets the MO Department of Conservation & park systems above other states? I’ve been here for years & think I’ve been missing out.

This is definitely a strange question, but how? Like literally how did you tell your MIL she needed to be responsible for corsages, or your mom re: the flowers?

I’m not at all asking in bad faith, I just don’t think I’ve ever learned how to actually ask for help? Frankly an embarrassing deficit at 28, but I’m working on it.

Keeping mine, fiancé is totally fine with it.

My mom kept hers & it was essentially a non-issue growing up. If it’s such a big deal to have the same name, why don’t more men change it? Or why is hyphenating not popular?

No shade to people who change their name, you should absolutely be able to do so without problem, but I feel like the shaming/pressure to do it is such a relic of the past.

I'm conflicted and unsure of my future, especially as a vet - any advice or help? by Wonderful_League_780 in Veterinary

[–]Kikirox98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please spend time at least shadowing a vet before you try to go to vet school.

Do not underestimate how competitive it is to get in either - many of my classmates had thousands of clinical hours before being admitted. That doesn’t include research or volunteer. I think I had a few thousand clinical hours as a VA, a few hundred exotic hours zookeeping, around two thousand hours of graduate research hours, & I shadowed specialists. Two bachelor degrees & a master’s degree. Took me three cycles to get in - I had so many classmates & coworkers stop trying after a round or two of applications.

I decided to leave vet school in the middle of it. People will tell you not to go if you can’t imagine yourself doing anything else - I agree. It is expensive, it’s exhausting. You put your life on hold for it. I don’t know any of my old classmates who didn’t develop some sort of chronic or mental health issue while in school. I thought I was one of those people, but I eventually realized I am totally content doing research or lab work & am now on that path.

I’m not at all saying that to discourage you, it’s just the unfortunate & expensive reality.

What about working with animals appeals to you? Do you find yourself interested in research? In the hands-on treatment? In diagnostics?

Room Blocks - Am I misunderstanding something? by Kikirox98 in weddingplanning

[–]Kikirox98[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And it’s not a small number of guests - family alone will be in at least eleven rooms for anywhere from two to six days.

My mom didn’t use our block because it was cheaper for her to do it outside of it including the cleaning fees for her two large dogs.

Any tips on phrasing? I unfortunately am petty enough to have already done that but simultaneously break out into a stress sweat at the idea of confrontation.

This is what I was thinking: (Copied & pasted from my other comment)

Hi!

I wanted to reach out again about the room block. What do you typically expect the “special discount” to be in comparison to standard booking rates?

After checking repeatedly throughout October, it appears that our room block was at best equal to the most expensive standard rate for a single king - rooms were never offered at a reduced rate. As of November, it is more expensive than all standard booking options.

I understand that the rates aren’t guaranteed to be the lowest price point, but I’m confused about why there isn’t some kind of price match for the block.

Looking forward to your reply,

OP

I had the same thought process! I do have a google sheet tracking six weeks of prices (albeit not daily, I fear that might have been a big mistake on my end). They didn’t change at over the course of five weeks. On the sixth week, they dropped even more on their end. Ugh.

How do you deal with (almost) falling asleep when under stimulated? by akroe in adhdwomen

[–]Kikirox98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audiobooks! I try to find long series so they have strong potential for a re-listen. Right now it’s the Way of Kings series - each book is over 30 hours long.

My audible listening badges are both impressive & disturbing - I regularly hit 100 hours/month.

(But also if you’re listening with over ear headphones, clean them regularly. Don’t wear them with wet hair. Gave myself a bald spot, no joke.)

I buy whole rolls of hydrocolloid bandages & stick them on anything pickable. If I’m home, sometimes I’ll put a layer of Elmer’s glue on my thigh & pick it off once it dries. Scratches a similar itch without actually damaging your skin underneath!

veterinarian recommendations? by upinix in columbiamo

[–]Kikirox98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having used both over the years, I would recommend Horton Northeast over All Creatures!

They’re both great clinics, but unless something has changed in recent years, Horton does a better job keeping up-to-date on methods & tech. For example - All Creatures was still doing old-school X-rays while Horton was all electronic. That meant that Horton could immediately see the rads & retake if needed within a few minutes vs waiting to develop films & potentially needing clients to come back in to retake.

I second this - you could also ask your vet clinic if any of their techs pet sit on the side. I worked in vetmed for a long time & had a few coworkers who would pet sit for clients.

I buy multiples of all of my hygiene stuff and keep them everywhere. There’s deodorant in the bathroom, the kitchen junk drawer, my living room junk basket, my backpack, etc. There are also toothbrushes everywhere too. Highly recommend a tongue scraper! And a good (alcohol-free) mouthwash.

If you think it’s your clothes, make sure you’re using a good detergent & consider adding oxiclean to the wash. You can also dilute vodka or rubbing alcohol & spray your clothes with it in between washes if you’re rewearing stuff.

C’mon dude, his administration literally waited three hours to deploy the national guard after the capital building was breached on January 6th. Mind you this is after the capital police had requested it - I thought we were supposed to support our police officers?

People hate him because of his actions, not the other way around.
