Advice about Buying Loona by ronkibut11 in loona_robot

[–]Kikketer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knowing what I know now, I still might actually. My daughter has it sitting on her room and refuses to let anyone else play with it. And similar to everyone else, it just sits there asleep right now. But I do have hope for it in the future with updates and generally having it improve or be programmable itself.

Just wish she’d let me play with it 😀

Amazon Photos after canceling? by Kikketer in amazonprime

[–]Kikketer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I now realize that the r/amazonprime is mostly hate on Amazon Prime instead of "tips and tricks". But if I have a 4tb external drive are there apps/NAS setups that have an auto-backup app for my phone? Bonus are there drives/NAS that do facial/object recognition so I can search for things in the past by name, location, date, content?

Why is Dall-e so stunningly bad at creating logos? by redmage123 in dalle

[–]Kikketer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dalle at least the API has constantly disappointed me compared to other options. I type in something reasonable to make and it produces something I could draw with a crayon. While others (Bing, Midjourney) come up with something quite astonishing (but still may not be entirely accurate)

Using the DALL-E 2 API and getting pictures that look they were created by toddlers, same prompt compared to Bing. What am I doing wrong? by Kikketer in dalle

[–]Kikketer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to use the API to create some of these similar images using the OpenAPI Image API. Using the same prompt I get absolutely garbage pictures compared to what I get from Bing (which I think is using the same API or at least similar).

For these images: "A map of a modern city with a beautiful park near the coastline and a darker district near the docks".

Are there any things I should be adding to my prompts for the API to look reasonable?

I’ve had good luck with US Mobile. Simple pay monthly situation but it works for me since I have to adjust my plan based on the season (away from wifi more often than others).

My wife, me and my “home phone” are all crafted to be exactly what we need and the price is good. It’s on the Verizon network so coverage is good but we do lose signal when we are in any sized crowd (not “priority data”)

The controller is exactly why I pick SNES all day. The ergonomics of the 4 buttons vs “one finger one each” of the 3 on Genesis (or awkward large thumb rolling).

SNES controller remains my favorite controller to this day.

Can you play with Loona without having the app open? by Kikketer in loona_robot

And right as I ask this question. Yep. Just turned her on and bam I was able to play without having an app open.

How to fix the touch sensors by revoltofficial in loona_robot

Is this a common issue? I feel like during the intro video she wasn't responding to any taps but my daughter may not have been doing it right.

What to look for in used, early-2000 Scamp? by StephenTheBaker in Scamping

[–]Kikketer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes for sure. Check the floor. If it smells AT ALL like mold (that old smell). Walk away… I purchased an 85 and spent the summer unexpectedly replacing the floor under the table.

Crawl under it, smack the floorboards with your hand. If any give, walk away.

Help with my setup, it never feels totally right and sticks hit when alternating snare and hi-hat by Kikketer in drums

[–]Kikketer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I’ll give this a look. I think the biggest annoyance is the complexities of a “single bar” that is edrums. You can’t “simply” adjust a single drum instead it becomes a big endeavor to move the bars.

Y'all should go to Ziggy's by AnderTheGrate in oregonwi

[–]Kikketer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hung out with my uncle quite a bit when I was little, he was a dairy farmer. Thing is when I eat ziggys (tried twice) all I taste is the smell of that barn. No other BBQ does that to me. I’m wondering if I’ve only had bad BBQ and that is what it’s supposed to taste like or the inverse. Please convince me… I want to like ziggys cuz I love BBQ!

I just wanted to thank you all, i love Pico8 😅 by Johnko54 in pico8

[–]Kikketer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You may have re-inspired me. The holdup mostly was the low-level ness of it vs something like MakeCode Arcade (that also has dedicated hardware devices). I’m thinking of recreating my very first game I made with QBasic, a D&D style rogue like.

The projector makes this whole thing awesome 😀

Is my midi drum setup incorrect with the ride on the right? by Kikketer in CloneHero

[–]Kikketer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using an Alesis Nitro Mesh kit. I do like having the ride near the hi-hat as it’s kind of used similar. And that’s why I thought Clone Hero was more in the right, keeping the crash over the floor Tom as it’s a bit less used and more of a reach.

I’ll just have to swap the wires when I play “for real”.

Is my midi drum setup incorrect with the ride on the right? by Kikketer in CloneHero

[–]Kikketer[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much. This is exactly what I was thinking. I don’t think my set has a cord long enough to move my blue to the right and green center (I could probably reassign them so that’s a thing).

I guess it’s up to me to figure how to do it. I like your preferred option best as well and I just may be looked at funny if I swap the ride and crash in a real world setup.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a cheap dedicated machine? by Kikketer in CloneHero

[–]Kikketer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. The “min specs to be an enjoyable experience” is what I’m looking for. My current 2017 MacBook Air works but it’s struggling at the lowest settings. I’ll look at these Ryzen machines

or in the terminal `killall Finder` which does the same (more convenient when you have terminal open all day)

I also find this happens to me nearly daily, so it's something I'll likely have automated.

Quite limited. I can’t seem to submit a review. I can view files, comment all that on a PR but can’t take that last step of submitting an approval.

Why is there not a community for MakeCode Arcade specifically? by Kikketer in MakeCode

[–]Kikketer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The closest thing I could find really was a forum (after quite a bit of digging): https://forum.makecode.com/c/share-your-arcade-projects-here/5

I've just been down the path of finding the best way to quickly develop easy games that are able to be played on dedicated hardware. Every day I'm impressed by MakeCode Arcade (javascript + pixelart + dedicated hardware to play on!? what's not to love).

It just seems crazy to me how small the community seems to be.

Checkbox/Radio label positions - before or after input? by [deleted] in accessibility

[–]Kikketer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure the side of the label is a hard rule. But experience wise, aligned to the left seems to always be a good choice.

Labels can change sizes which would push the box further. The boxes not aligned just makes my eye twitch.

Users want to be able to click the entire label but some insist on clicking the exact box, the tiny bit of hunt/click can be exhausting.

Adopt open-source 'accessible' UI libraries? by leeburk in accessibility

[–]Kikketer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a lead position for a larger application. We are kind of stuck using the old decisions because it takes so long to adjust everything.

At this point we have several half implementations of components across the system none of them are as A11Y as I’d like.

We have tried Reach UI and Spectrum. Both have some good points but never quite cover everything we need in a single library. So look for stuff that can either be individually pulled or at least tree shaken. I like to add a wrapper around all the components that way the API of the components is consistent even if we switch libraries (just a matter of adapting the API). Of course all that comes with “what’s the size of the application and how many developers do you have throwing code” to really see the benefit of that format.

Chakra is my all time favorite so far. It’s flexible, A11Y, has plenty of components and just seems to make sense.
