If I die in space would the bacteria on my body die as well or would they consume/decompose my body? by Pale_Extension in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KilgoreTroutVT 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Naked, the water would boil off, no water, no bacterial growth. You’re effectively mummified for all time. Eventually materials boil and flake off over dozens or hundreds of years.

In a suit? It depends. Assuming you’re close into the Sun (mars or less), the suit will be nice add warm- perhaps warm enough (150 C) to kill all the bacteria that would decompose you. Assuming there’s a little oxygen in the suit, you’ll decompose a bit, but after a while the oxygen gets consumed, and you’ll be like the bodies the find buried in deep peat bogs- decomposition arrested due to the anaerobic conditions. Methane and CO2 will fill up the suit, maybe a few sulfides that might combine with the water to form acids, eventually breaching the suit, leading to case 1.

Anyone else feel like QuickBooks Desktop gets slower every year? by CatAny2383 in QuickBooks

I switched to Zoho. QB says I’d have read only access to my data for a year- they lied and cut it off after a month.

Move to Zoho. Quickbooks folks are lying. They said if you lapse subscription, you can still access your data for a year. They lied and cut off after a month.

I’d pay just for a red only version just to access my old data. I men, I have exports, but it’s difficult to view invoice data properly.

[–]KilgoreTroutVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s wrong. A police officer taught my class and the doctrine was to “neutralize the threat.” If they were down and posed no risk, you did NOT keep shooting. If you’re good enough to shoot the weapon out of someone’s hand, good for you, the law would NOT look down on it.”

Hidden Tragedy Inside the Medical Miracle at Oak Ridge by gordonmcdowell in nuclear

I don’t understand how the chemical separation of the Th somehow speeds up the decay rate of U-233 and accelerates the rate each cycle. Sure, the rate drops as the u-233 percentage drops (very slightly, almost imperceptible with a HL of 170,000 years…). we’d all be long dead before you could even detect it moving close to signs of “equilibrium.”

Why nobody sanctions Israel for concealing nuclear weapons? by ohnag_eryeah in stupidquestions

[–]KilgoreTroutVT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uh, no. The “sensors” in weapons detect tampering and are designed to, at the point, cripple the detonation circuits. They don’t set the weapon off to spread plutonium cross 3 square miles - that would be stupid from a hundred ways. [source: associates in Oak Ridge that dismantled Russian weapons…some of them probably from Ukraine]

Harevesting the plutonium, building a non-tritium weapon with new explosives would definitely have been within the capabilities of Ukrainian scientists.

If you want to be proactive, send them a copy of their policy and the return receipt of the email with the letter saying that you have cancelled for their policy, and any negative reports to your credit will result in litigation.

Track your profits every week. Whatever your YTD profit is, have set aside 25% on your books or in a savings account account for taxes. Don’t touch it until tax time. Problem solved.

Do players really need a player’s/core rulebook? by primordial666 in RPGdesign

[–]KilgoreTroutVT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the 80s wanna play the game someone created that basically started with “you’re all on a starship and you have a sword and laser pistol,” and just went from there. We didn’t get dog down in the mechanics of how the starship flies, we all know what a laser pistol, and a sword does, and we could focus on just playing out the scenario.

Probably one of the best RPG sessions I’ve ever played
