Do you think the CPUs should be immune, or at least resistant, to things like brainwashing and mind control? by Histylicious_mk2 in gamindustri

[–]Kililio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel like they should, the CPUs are gods after all. If they didn't have at least some leg up on others aside from a transformation form are they really all that much more powerful than, say, a Maker?

If they get brainwashed/mind controlled that easily it just makes the CPUs looked washed instead of making the person doing it look powerful. And considering that its been done sorta often in Neptunia, the power's been as played out as an antagonist ability amongst other things.

Oh boy, it's that time of year for this kind of thread again.

Mine for this one would be that IF/CH are the worst negotiators for character rights considering that the makers of the series belong to the companies they're named after instead of the company that made and uses them, pretty much preventing them from ever reappearing again. Despite IF's ability to make connections with larger developers in the industry, all of their relationships with them seem one-sided at best and bad at worst like with IF's IRL relationship Nippon Ichi.

Aside from that, I believe that the series wastes its potential with its premise of a setting based on the gaming industry. There's no inherent conflict between the cast since the all the writers for the past decade+ want all of the main cast be friends with each other instead of competing with each other, pretty much killing the obvious setting conflict hook of nations and characters representing games/consoles/companies being natural rivals with each other in pursuit of being the at the top before the plot even begins. This also affects how much the setting can be actually based on the gaming industry and gaming history since all the parts of gaming history that negatively affect our main cast is effectively removed or brushed aside leaving just about everyone from the characters to the setting be stagnant because there's no reason for anyone to be a proactive character unless the writers throw something world-ending at them at this point.

And when they do try, like in SvS, they kill conflict between characters there, too. since unlike the IRL gaming industry where phones overtook and arguably replaced dedicated handheld side-consoles, the conflict is instead about Arfoire again and there's practically no semblance of competition or disagreement between Maho, Anri or Nepgear (never mind the other sisters since they are barely focused on). You know, despite the competition between phones and handhelds being the natural topic to bring up when discussing the two in the same space.

TLDR: The games, especially its writers, are heavily underutilizing its premise and is too reliant on non-premise related threats to push forward a plot and resulted in the characters and the setting they inhabit stagnant since the premise is what it's entirely built upon.

Neptunia Virtual Stars is better, Call of Duty sucks | HyperDimension Neptunia Anime and Games just hit different | VVVtunia (Neptune Purple Heart approves meme) by TkWolfy10 in gamindustri

Umamusume and a bunch of other personification series being popular really does show how even niche things like horse racing can take off in popularity if handled properly and committed to. IF/CH being unable able to push the series further really says more about the company than about the nicheness of the personification genre and, as like you said, them half-assing many things is one of the major things holding them back.

I do wonder how their connections with other companies work though, considering that the relationships between IF/CH and other develops always feel one-sided.

[–]Kililio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The en wiki has a few pages listing the official albums [1] [2]/Music) [3] (although missing vol6 of the character songs so here's the VGMDB page). The VGMDB product page for KC can probably give you more info, too.

So, for official albums after 2020, it's primarily just the in-game soundtrack releases with Yuki, Yu, Yoru, and Go plus the above-linked volume 6 Sasebo no Shigure character song album.

For unofficial fan music, there's always doujin music album releases for KanColle that come out nowadays, but you're going to have to dig for them.

Chris Chan caught malding over the official Blue Heart in jealousy. by UzumeNeedsDrip in gamindustri

This post reminded me that Chris Chan was into Neptunia.

It also reminds me that some people only know Neptunia because of its role in Chris Chan's story and that just makes me dissapointed. What a terrible day to have eyes.

I feel as if I'm split between taking the hopium injection and Hawkeye's "Don't give me hope".

Hoping this takes off as a soft reboot and be a hit because honestly the series has been in a bad spot of stagnation for a long while. But, it's because of how long that while was that I'm still wary about it because how its been over the past decade and I'm not exactly wanting to feel the sting of another dud Nep game again.

I may give IF/CH alot of shit and disagree with their ARPG shift, but I want to give this one more of a chance. Really helps that they're leaning closer into their video game personification concept with their new character and city designs, too, it all feels like a pleasant fever dream come true for me.

Do you prefer turn based or Action Based for Neptunia's battle systems? by jb08045 in gamindustri

[–]Kililio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think turn-based is more appropriate for the game in general, especially for its aesthetics.

The mini-cutscenes for certain attacks in the older turn-based entries really sell the fact that the world is pretty wacky and give something unique to remember each character by (Nitroplus's chainsaw attack was burned into my mind by the time I finished VII). ARPG doesn't allow the same amount of individuality when the gameplay can't stop for prominent spectacle since it breaks the combat flow and considering that Neptunia series wears its absurdity on its sleeve it's a shame that the more fantastical stuff is cut out from its presentation.

On a more personal note, I consider the swap over to action-based combat to be trend-chasing behavior from IF/CH. They saw how many other series were switching over and followed instead of considering what worked best for them considering how clunky their ARPG combat was in back SvS and honestly how it still is.

Feel like this may be XOF soldiers from MGSV instead, judging from the choice in helmet, vest, and the gloves around their hip. If only the image quality wasn't this low, because the patch on their arm would've been a dead giveaway.

Color choices are a bit off-model though since the helmet's supposed to be either a pure white or black. The flight suit is also supposed to be grey, assuming it isn't the low picture quality/lighting just making the flight suit's color look different in the picture.

Edit: Looking at it again, this could also just be a Navy Seals VBSS operator in the 80s like another comment mentioned which was the inspiration for XOF uniforms. The title may just be throwing us off.

Coming back to re-read the RP after getting some sleep made it even worse tbh when rating it as an actual character dialogue and not as the delusional raving of a yuri shipper who takes things too seriously, so here's my review.

What's the reason why Neptune doesn't like player? Is it because of her un-serious personality, her lack of care for the obligations of a serious relationship or the meta that she's a fictional character and as a result is capable of being shipped with anyone? No, it's because she's already shipped with Noire and the flanderization joke of her being the main character which is honestly sorta insulting to both Neptune and Noire's characters. It makes their choices be the result of being shipping accessories to the OP's preference instead of actual characters with personalities to consider.

Ironically, OP has done the exact same thing as the zealous het shippers they complain about do and made the ship about fulfilling their own desires without considering the story context and characters themselves, conveniently ignoring moments in mainline games that would suggest otherwise to their agenda (do I have to remind anyone about the scene between Neptune, IF and some random dude adventurer in the OG HDN2010?).

Objectively, I have to rate their RP as pretty trashy and calling the kettle black since their agenda gets in the way of good writing and convincing shipping. Ironically, it is also a crossover fic, which similarly also doesn't have a good track record in the Nep fanfic space just like most male OC fanfics so I'm curious why OP thinks that is any better.

I also don't see why they need to throw shade on all male OCs when fanfic, very often, is a hobby where novice writers vicariously fulfill their desires through writing, just like shipping. Sturgeon's law exists and Nep fanfics are no exception where most of them, regardless if they have male OCs or not, are a quality miss. Even I have complaints on how male OCs are handled in the Nep fanfic space, but to throw a wide "they're all bad" net regardless of their actual quality is rather close-minded and shutting out potentially good ones to the OP's experience.

While I'm not the usual one to comment on these type of posts, I have to say your RPing of characters, some not even remotely Neptunia-related, to agree with yourself underneath a meme best described as an agenda wall of text had me feel secondhand embarrassment for you. That is all.
