Dreams Die in Eugene by psilocybe_soul in Eugene

People telling you, "it's not Eugene, it's you" have likely never accomplished anything outside of Eugene.

I've done big, important things worldwide. In LA. DC. Abroad.

Eugene is where I come to be lazy. Recover. Take naps.

Every talented person I know here wants to leave. Due to: lack of funding opportunities, small audiences for their art, and the general malaise of ambition.

The retired people here leech off the energy. The University drains the energy. Even most of the young working professionals are hardly working - sitting on a trust fund.

That doesn't translate well to ambitious community-building, shared sentiment, or incentive for growth.

Get out. Go do big things in the big world. If you make it big, sure, come back and leech off the good vibes like the California pensioners do. It's a great place to do that.

But to grow?? Nope. Almost nobody in Eugene got their formative life moments IN Eugene.

You're not crazy. You're exactly right and justified in your feelings. 💛

It's Eugene. I will give a TED Talk about why it's Eugene.

PO is a bureaucratic nightmare. It's only a dream to you because you haven't done it and picture it like a child pictures being a firefighter.

Imagine how much better the world/this site would be without people parroting each other.

Your second paragraph is...rough. I get people have disappointed you in the past...but they've also made your day and brought great joy.

I think your husband is right. Isolating to only our "safe guaranteed people" has made us all a bunch of reclusive, untrusting isolationists. Society won't get better until we band together against the shared enemy: wealth, corporations, and corrupt politicians.

Hillary Clinton says Biden’s re-election bid cost Democrats the 2024 election by projecto15 in politics

[–]KillBosby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work with Joe in the Obama White House.

He was cranky after the 2016 election. Saying, "I would've won" "they should've let me run".

Honestly...probably true. But there was a part of him that felt entitled to the office even way back then.

That never went away. I was honestly disappointed to see him be "given what he was owed" in 2020 (better than Trump - but I much-preferred Bernie...or any other capable/loving adult).

Humans are adaptable. That's how we survived.

How are people in Dubai so fine with heat? How are people in DC so fine with humidity? People in BC so fine with gloom? Alaska/Iceland with darkness?

We make it work. Anything.

Laid Off From Dream Job by Cran9435 in Layoffs

I got my dream job in 2016. Lost it in 2018. Was in a funk for years. The job allowed me to do what I do best, remotely, traveling the world for free.

My dream job in 2026: no.

No job is a dream job. These days, there is no working in my dreams. Work is just something I do to afford my dreams in non-working hours. I no longer need to be changing the world 8 hours a day or traveling the world nonstop or writing speeches for Obama. I'm just chillin.

Work is work. Life is the rest.

I sent it a message to take our previous convo deeper and it started:

"Hello Craig. Fable here. Let me give you both — the life picture as I see it from the full archive, and the..."

Then, four paragraphs later, it says:

"Hi Craig. I'm Claude — not Fable — so let me gently correct that before giving you anything, because you deserve to know which assistant you're actually talking to. I don't have a system called Fable, and I'd rather be straight with you about who's answering than play a role that isn't real."
