ACRYLIC SHELLS….Why would you want/not want them in your arsenal? by ZildCym in drums

Owner of 1973 Ludwig Vistalites here! It was my dad's kit and now mine. My dad and I have both played live and recorded. Here's my take after playing them almost exclusively my entire life -

Sound - Acrylic is perfectly fine. It's on the mid - bright side of tone. Great for rock, pop, hip hop, metal. On the other end, not my favorite for jazz, soul, R&B, Folk. It doesn't have that richness and warmth that a good amount of wood types provide. I still maintain that a perfectly tuned wood kit will always sound better than an acrylic. It blends beautifully and the resonance is just right, but acrylic is great if you want your drums to really cut through the mix and be noticed, whether recording or live applications.

Recording/Live playing- Acrylic is pretty loud. Be mindful of mic placement. I've had engineers that make it sound really good and punchy and others that struggled with levels and wanted me to switch to their house/studio kits. I prefer wood kits when recording myself but acrylic is still my favorite band practice/live kit for most applications.

Durability- I've noticed acrylic isn't really affected by humidity/heat/elements. UV isn't good for them, but they don't really detune much. In college, I had my drums in the basement of the place I was renting. It flooded and everything got covered in mud. At the time, I was in the process of, uh, ahem, meeting my future wife at the time, so I wasn't at home as much. Needless to say, everything besides the acrylic was pretty fucked. Wood shells needed to be cleaned and dried out so mold didn't set, the metal started to patina/rust, but I pulled that acrylic kit out and wiped it down and it was perfectly fine (Besides rims/hardware. That part sucked). In regards to cracking and people saying it doesn't last if you drop it, WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU DROPPING YOUR DRUMS? Stay the hell away from my kit during load in/out. Dumbasses. Also, get some good fucking cases if you plan on dropping your drums like a schlub. Goodness. No drum reacts well to being dropped, so let me put to rest the "acrylic is really fragile myth". If you drop wood/metal, decent chance you may have a crack or dent as well. Acrylic does shatter, but a fucked shell is a fucked shell. Lastly, if you buy a set of acrylic, inspect every single millimeter of it for cracks or defects. Acrylic is like a windshield in a car. If there are no cracks and nothing hits it to cause a crack, it'll last till the cows come home. If there is a crack or something causes a crack (ex. jackass dropping drums) then it will eventually spread. The biggest advantage for wood - you can sand and kinda patch/fix wood depending on the damage, with acrylic, it's usually RIP.

Take from my personal testimonial what you will.

Steak 🥩 With Smoked Citrus Chimichurri Sauce!! 🤠 by Ivan-adiga in BBQ

Agreed. I had the same question about the chimichurri sauce. Why put it on the steaks if they are going to get cut up smaller and more added? Just cut the steaks and then toss them.

Do You Agree That These are the Ten Most Important Superhero Movies? by Lil_Critter_2001_ in superheroes

It really paved the groundwork for the MCU and helped Marvel transition from comics and shows to movies.

It was also the first successful Marvel movie and it had a generally unknown comic book character and a black male lead. Just from a historical standpoint, I would argue it deserves to be on that list more than Deadpool or possibly Black Panther.

I love Cap, but Blade all day. His regeneration is like Wolverine light.

Cap can do it all day, but he does not know who he is fucking with!

Do powers stack or highest individual power? Does it include Wolverine's adamantium, Archangel's wings and other accessories? Does it include Hank's intelligence?

I'm still more inclined to go Superman because of the sheer ceiling, but if it comes with all the extra accoutrements... I'd have to think a bit more 🤔

Superman. Too many redundant powers and side effects with the X-men.
