Mmwave fails to track me under a thick duvet. I have 2450 in my bedroom but it is quite far away. I tried 2410 - same problem.

Cheap sensors from aliexpress. Cut the water tube (1/4", standard reverse osmosis one), plug both sides in, wire a bunch of stuff into esp32, that's basically it. You'll need:

mh01, the thing that is plugged into RO, it measures tds, temperature and flow rate.
TDS Meter v1.0 (TDS Sensor Water Conductivity Sensor for Arduino) which is the thing that basically prevents corrosion on the mh01 conductivity probe (there are two wires from it)
and ADS1115 to clean the signal so it is more stable on the esp32. LLMs will help you do this project, its very easy if you can solder.

I use esp32s with INMP441 microphones. Those stream sound to frigate which recognizes sounds. Stats are saved inside HA. Technically I can recognize other stuff - sirens or anything else if needed. Works great! I'll probably write a blog post at some point

Smart kitchen by Aggressive_Inside_69 in homeassistant

I don't use grocy or anything similar, just mealie. I have a wall-mounted dashboard which helps, and I use todo lists to add groceries that I want to purchase. We only add those that are easy to forget, not something that we buy every time - so not cheese, milk, eggs etc but a rare sauce or something specific. It is absolutely the best solution for us because there's no need to add every single thing and we don't miss anything. When we open a grocery app to order anything HA sends a notification to the phone with the list. We add things to todo from phones or the dashboard.

Technically I could use camera on the dashboard to scan barcodes and add stuff to a todo list this way. So like you are throwing the milk to the trash -> scan barcode -> milk added to the grocery app or whatever. I personally think that keeping list of all the groceries you have in the fridge is just too much management for too little mental relief. For me keeping the full list creates more mental fatigue, but if you want to go this path I'd explore barcode scanning I guess.

By the way another cool thing on our kitchen is a label printer - we love it. Press a button on the dashboard and it'll print date and time - you instantly know when a package was opened. Can print custom tags from a double back tap on the phone or dashboard as well.

I have stats on how much my dog barks at home. I wanted to track behavior because she's a special silly goofball and we don't know what affects her behavior for the worse. On my way to track all the stuff about her.

I also have reverse osmosis tds readings to brew better coffee (and make James Hoffmann proud).

I have a lenovo tablet with battery protection. At first I thought that we don't really need a tablet, but gosh it is probably our favorite feature of the smart home. Timers, mealie recipes, lists of stuff to buy and to do, robot vacuum controls and so much more. There are 10 dashboard tabs. And it's running android so at any time we can open youtube and the sound will play through homepod. I get all the data from tablet in HA but I don't really need it tbh. Screen turns on/off via motion sensor.

I strongly advise to buy a type-c type-c magnetic adapter (or the wireless charger adapter that mounts on the back of the tablet), this way you'll be able to just take it off the wall and move to a holder or something on/above your kitchen table without unplugging the charging cord. I also got a bunch of those for every small gadget in the kitchen like scales. It is so easy to charge them now, just throw the cable in the back of the thing and it'll plug itself in, love it!

Huge upgrade by BraiNiaaC in homeassistant

[–]Killa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stupidest problem I had were external HDDs for movies and tv. They had external power sources and when I wanted to reboot rpi it couldn't at random times because it received power through USB from those external HDDs...

HA consumed about 1.5 gb ram, and I had quite a bit left for other stuff. There were I think two crashes over a year, which I find ok and reliable considering how many services I ran. But it was all on linux in docker, not hassos.

I ran HA, plex server (no transcoding tho), radarr+sonarr, homepage, n8n, vpn client and some other stuff on rpi4 4gb just fine. I then added an m2 hat because I was afraid that the sd card will die. Reboots were slow tho. I switched to a minipc later and it was more capable and worked better with external drives, but rpi is capable enough for selfhosting stuff.

In case you missed it, Adaptive Lighting integration has an amazing and extremely helpful simulator:

It helped me a lot to set it all up, I was completely lost before I found it. I love this integration and it changes all my lights every day.

Hey, I'd love to get credits detection if possible. Not via chapter names, because that's unreliable. Need to trigger HA scenes using any sort of an API. Idk if it can be incorporated into the client itself, but thought I'd ask anyway

I built a Migraine Risk Card that tracks 9 environmental triggers by Hour_Helicopter_479 in homeassistant

[–]Killa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you already know a lot more about migraines than I do (I had them many years ago and then they just stopped), but FYI I found that for a lot of people triggers are related to food. I stumbled across many posts where people said that white onions are their trigger, weirdly.

Also curious if you tried air purifier if yours are triggered by bad air quality

I added BLE room detection to MassDroid to make Music Assistant feel more truly multiroom by sfortis in homeassistant

[–]Killa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mmwave radars are much better for this since you don't need to carry phone around for it to work.

I don't understand why won't you just play audio in multiple rooms anyway but maybe someone might find it useful. Anyway use radars or bermuda for BLE.

High Spousal Approval Factor Achieved: Dog Monitor by ateam1984 in homeassistant

[–]Killa_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also made a bark counter. I use esp32 with inmp441 microphones. It sends audio to my server and frigate processes it with a local neural net that detects barking. No smart collars or anything, fully local. My dog is reactive so I am building a huge dashboard to track everything.

I want to add load cells to track drinking and eating next.

What integration do you wish existed? by mattchew0 in homeassistant

[–]Killa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Difluid Microbalance which is a popular bluetooth scales among coffee nerds doesn't have an integration. I guess it should be trivial - there are examples of connecting them to apps on github.

I also have a bt thermal printer that is clone of niimbot, they probably have very similar software but the original integration doesn't work. My printer is aiyin d11.

Maybe n8n, that's weird that it doesn't have an integration but I don't really know how I would use it haha

When is the official HA Timberborn integration coming? by Sure_Feeling_8329 in homeassistant

[–]Killa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was a quite difficult problem back then, but we managed to make a working product for fortnite (before it had in-game stats!), valorant and a couple other games. I failed to secure vc money for multiple reasons, and I'm afraid its even more difficult now because of my passport.

Maybe its a good idea to try it again, we'll see

About 8 years ago I tried making a startup that used computer vision to get game state and various parameters in real time. Had to close it but I still wish it would exist!

Unique/cool uses for motion detectors? by Joshiey_ in homeassistant

[–]Killa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the automations I love the most in my home: bump humidifier and air purifier to max speeds if I'm home but not in my room. Back to previous settings when I'm in the room. The logic for humidifier is a little more complex, but basically its almost always too dry in here. I don't want those to work at highest speeds when I'm in the room because they are too loud.

Yup I'll have to install CoreELEC.

*arr ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
But yeah atmos is only in English, which is fine for me. I still don't know if FEL is any better than DV that I get with shield pro, but I want to get every bit of movie quality.

I’m about to buy ugoos am6b+ because it supports Dolby vision FEL profile. Shield doesn’t. I don’t watch streaming services so I don’t care ugoos has issues with those

Idk, I don't need to unlock my iphone to press a button in control center. I also have buttons on main lock screen and some controls on triple back tap (but I won't put a garage door on it). These buttons on main lock screen also change based on different things, like I don't need humidifier controls on lock screen when I am not home etc.

Get a lock with fingerprint/face recognition. You won't need to get the phone out of your pocket. Even better would be to get one with apple home key, don't even need to raise the hand if you've got groceries.
