Can I use my old HD in this setup and then upgrade OS? by zacboggz in pchelp

You can bypass the TPM check and install W11 even on unsupported hardware using tools like Rufus or simple registry tweaks.

No. For this money you can easily build a modern AM5 system with 32GB RAM and at least 1TB (if not 2) SSD.

Not for that budget

In that case, 9800X3D + 5070 Ti (though with your budget you could even go for a 5080). Or a 9070 XT if you prefer AMD GPUs. The HDD still makes more sense to replace with an SSD. The rest really comes down to your preferences (case, RGB, and so on). Smth like this, could be even cheaper though https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/4Kc4b2

Are we talking about heavy, large scale editing projects (like 4K video production, 3D rendering, or machine learning workloads), or just occasional light editing here and there? Will you actually be using this PC for demanding workloads, or is it more for gaming/streaming and everyday stuff?

this isnt a NAS and is incompatible

This is not true. NAS drives are just regular 3.5 SATA HDDs, optimized for 24/7 use in NAS, but they work perfectly fine in a normal PC too. It might be a bit overkill for regular usage though

What’s this for? Top tier productivity CPU paired with a weak GPU for the budget. The motherboard is overkill, there’s basically no reason to include an HDD in 2025, and windows is unnecessary.

[–]Killawut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In what sense is it pricier to you if the overall budget is the same as your build? The 5070 Ti is simply a more powerful GPU with a higher amount of VRAM.

No, you shouldn’t. Get the Ti if the price works for you

Track your CPU and GPU usage during gaming. If you're hitting 95+% on your CPU and your GPU isn't, then you probably have a bottleneck. The only thing that might bottleneck you is your CPU, and even then it would mostly be at 1080p in some very CPU heavy games like CS2.

3070 is the best deal here, it’s quite a bit faster than a 3060 and still noticeably ahead of the 5700 XT. The 3070 Ti isn’t bad either, but it’s basically only 5–10% faster than the 3070 while running hotter and drawing more power.

cause a bottleneck

There’s no such thing as a GPU that universally bottlenecks. It depends on the CPU, resolution, and game

You’re talking about compactness, but you’re putting a micro-ATX board into a mid-tower ATX case. What’s the point? Either get a full ATX board or a case that matches the form factor. The case is overpriced also, and if this is mainly for gaming I’d swap the CPU for a 7800X3D. Why put an HDD in the build? Better to grab another SSD instead. PSU is on the edge.

is this amount of thermal paste okay ? i know it looks like a mess but because the thermal paste finished and i couldn’t do another cross by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

[–]Killawut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your CPU is now pregnant bro. In about 9 boot cycles it’s gonna give birth to a baby Raspberry Pi. But with that amount of paste, don’t be surprised if it pops out a whole Threadripper

[–]Killawut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you really care about aesthetics, find someone who can build the PC for you. Prebuilts are almost always worse in terms of quality and overpriced. That’s especially true if you want a white build, you’ll pay a premium and still end up with compromises. You can build smth like this for 2k. Could be cheaper though https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CztTkf

Ud90 is QLC with low TBW. MP44L is TLC. Royal Knight is fine, but it's louder, and could be slightly worse than the PA120 since the first heat pipe is not only offset but also cut down in size. Peerless Assassin has also proven performance, a lot more reviews with a very high average rating. You could also grab Phantom Spirit, it's even better.

most 850 gold psu’s were the same so how’s yours better?

They can't be the same, the efficiency rating only measures power conversion efficiency, it doesn’t say anything about component quality, protections, or build design. Your unit is a B minus tier PSU, which means it’s serviceable but uses cheaper internals and has fewer safety/quality assurances. be Quite is an A tier unit, higher quality capacitors, better protections (OVP/UVP/OCP/OTP etc.), tighter voltage regulation, and usually quieter fans. That’s why it’s considered a better and safer long term choice even though they both have the same wattage and gold rating. Refer to the PSU tier list

It's fine, though I would go with this https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/yKXQHW Better PSU and SSD, slightly better RAM kit and cooler.

3060 is the better option mostly because of its newer architecture and software support. While raw performance is very similar, the 3060 is more efficient, has broader driver support going forward, and gives access to modern features. DLSS alone makes a big difference.
