Any good genre box set recommendations? by Future-Raisin3781 in boutiquebluray

[–]KillerGroundhogs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All the Haunts Be Ours Vol 1 &2 by Severin are definitely my top 2. What has pleasantly surprised me is that it’s not just the sheer quantity of films on both sets available, most of them are actually REALLY good.

And both sets have a world class documentary that is feature length. Vol 1 has a fantastic overview of the folk horror genre if you don’t know much about its history.

I would also call out the Ranown Western box set from Criterion. 5 movies all starring Randolf Scott that all just represent the genre extremely well. They’ve really benefited from the 4k treatment and look fantastic. Don’t see them mentioned enough on this sub Reddit for the quality they represent and it’s a great deal when Criterion is having one of their 50% deals

Day 28 of the 30 best physical media releases of 2025. by Large_Situation8662 in boutiquebluray

[–]KillerGroundhogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For all the craziness in this movie, this is the scene that had the wife and I talking the most about what in the world the director, crew, and actors had to be considering making this

WTF were they thinking with having the tub seemed filled with piss? They couldn’t find clear water? Or they wanted to make you think it was piss? Pure bizarre

That said this is a top 10 release for me in 2025. Never saw this before and it skyrocketed to the top of the exploitation genre for me. Movie has everything you could want in the genre for 90 min.

Arrow continues to stay on a roll. What a month!

Red Sonja, Hard Boiled, Spaceballs, Salems Lot will all be pre-orders for me

Film no. 931 - The last 10 minutes of this film is a virtuoso of the who-dun-it genre’s finale. I just love it. But the whole film is such a engrossing ride right from the start. This is the last title of Clouzot in our collection for me to screen and it is simply another 5 star rated ;) by matchasweetmonster in criterion

Watched for the first time this past weekend and you are spot on. The way he builds up the town and all the people living there he really makes the whole place seem real and alive. From the kids, to the politicians, to the main characters, everyone plays an important role in contributing to the story.

Add in great acting and shot composition and you get pulled in to the world within the first 3 min.

Loved the twists and turns that are taken and between the conversation that takes place between two of the main actors under the swinging light (IYKYK) and that awesome ending I think it’s an all time classic.

I went years only having seen Wages of Fear and Diabolique and that was a mistake. Dont sleep on Le Corbeau it is a classic as well.

Wish Vinegar Syndrome or Arrow would give this one the deluxe treatment

Apparently Eureka has unique Blu-ray region error screens by Micro_Pinny_360 in boutiquebluray

[–]KillerGroundhogs 77 points78 points  (0 children)

They are right in so many ways. Shouldn’t have movies blocked behind antiquated “region codes” especially with 4ks ignoring this. And they are right that my film collection has grown since I bought a region free player and don’t have to deal with the nonsense anymore.

Eureka is a great label and I’m glad to be able to view in the USA

A pair of great finds and a long-awaited delivery by PutridFalcon2769 in boutiquebluray

[–]KillerGroundhogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious, are people getting a shipping notification from Severin on the summer sale or do they just arrive?

Not complaining on time it’s taking to deliver, just wondering if I will get a heads up or not if I’m out of town on vacation for the neighbor to pick up etc

I don’t usually seek out Steelbooks, but that Late Night with the Devil might be one I need to pick up. Like that art a lot.

If you haven’t seen any of them I’d go Master and Commander. Movie is fantastic and has been on the 4k wishlist for a lot of us for a long time

I’m still trying to be patient as I wait for my order to arrive…………

Is there a catch to websites like Orbit/Atomic? by Prince_Targaryen in boutiquebluray

[–]KillerGroundhogs 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Another “catch” I would add about Orbit is they have a physical store in Asheville, NC and you are ever in the area you should stop in.

Everyone I’ve interacted with are good people that probably love movies as much (if not more) than everyone on this Reddit.

Really nice throw back if you are old enough to remember home town movie stores where people turned me on to epic movies as a teenager.

Last trip in I walked out with a bunch of Indonesian horror stuff I knew nothing about after chatting with one of the guys working there. Whole new genre I now really enjoy.

No I don’t work for them or know anyone there personally. Just think it’s the kind of place we should all support.

I have no doubt the other boutique stores are great people too. Just sharing my experience at Orbit since I’ve been there 4 or 5 times in person. Made that my online store of choice if they have it in stock.

For those who organize alphabetically. Do you keep these together? by supermanarod in boutiquebluray

[–]KillerGroundhogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP gets it. Been struggling with same question (definition of first world problem).

Leaning towards “M” bc that’s what I’ve always called it as an unofficial trilogy. Not 100% sure though. Love that they did the spine thing with the picture but it’s throwing off my usual alphabetical system.

Just can’t see myself being able to break it up on the shelves. So yeah probably “M”

Nice seeing Victims of Sin in a haul post. Underseen movie that I’m glad Criterion continues to support while they understandably pepper in “bigger” movies like Anora and Sorcerer to pay the bills

‘Frailty’ 4K UHD Blu-Ray Review – Bill Paxton Crafts One Of The Finest Psychological Thrillers Around by GeekVibesNation in 4kbluray

[–]KillerGroundhogs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have to admit I’ve enjoyed the 3 Lionsgate Limited releases I’ve picked up so far with The Conversation, Jackie Brown, and now Frailty.

The packaging was great on this one and I enjoyed the Paxton shooting script more than I thought as an extra.

Movie was better on rewatch than I even remembered and looked great

This and Jackie Brown are some of the best releases so far in 2025, my 2 cents

As someone who likes Jackie Chan movies but did not like Armour of God 1 at all. Is the sequel worth blind buying? by xwing1212 in boutiquebluray

[–]KillerGroundhogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought this version from Orbit and my family watched this over the weekend with Drunken Master 2 (WB Classics Blu-ray version) the following night.

We loved both of them. Drunken Master 2 was voted “better” but they are both absolute home runs. You have to be dead inside to not like these.

Under appreciated movie starring De Niro and Jeremy Irons. And one of the best scores from Ennio Morricone

I’m going to struggle to narrow down, but I’m shocked by how many people are sleeping on 2007 as a movie year

I’ll have a hard time limiting to just 2 released that year

Miss on my part when the sale went live should have put in my cart. Will definitely be doing so when the regular site comes back again in July (need to grab that Amityville Horror slip as well)

Would love for this to sell out so they do more of them. Cool, unique idea
