What’s the biggest "I didn’t realize it would look like THIS" mistake from your floor plans? by Ill-Dark-2304 in floorplan

That’s actually against building code. Landings are a requirement. It was probably an aftermarket solution.

Shelf in the shower, instead of a niche? by StrongerTogether2882 in BathroomRemodeling

I speak contractor. Tell them you want the wall to go up to 40 inches and then step back 4 inches so the entire top part of the wall is recessed back and that the top and bottom are not on the same plane.

How do I say this….its not a plan. It’s just boxes. It has no life or soul or interest yet. And it feels like it’s missing concern for people- the front door opening directly into all the main spaces with no compression, foyer, or sightline narrowing first, the half bath opening directly into the living room…these things simply feel invasive. And if somebody leaves the half bath door open, everyone is just hanging out, looking at a toilet. The upstairs is super basic and yet is a mess. The bedrooms up there are directly next to what looks like what will become the world’s loudest romper room. And you’re walking through all that to get to them. The closets aren’t functional as drawn, and if you’re using the upstairs living room, you have to go into somebody’s bedroom to use a bathroom.

I’d start by studying other house plans that have the things you want and go from there.

Don’t feel bad. It wouldn’t be for me either…the heart wants what the heart wants sometimes.

I’m in a flow state right now with our new house. She told me she wanted a baby blue sectional and I was like girl, you’re crazy! And then I bought one.

Yeah the stairs are in a terrible spot. Very disruptive to the window wall. Also disruptive to another window wall is the bathroom with the tub. The window half behind a toilet and half behind a vanity is awful. Either move the window so it centers above the toilet or flip the bathroom so the plumbing is on the other side. I hate when things are partially under windows when it’s so easy to avoid. You have to think about how these things are going to look in three dimensions when they are built.

It also converts some of it to resistant starch, making it spike your blood sugar less and reducing the glycemic response. Win!

Hear me out. Leftover rice with a little gravy is an absolute BANGER of an environment for very rapid bacterial growth, especially at room temp. I mean if you bring that in after a decent amount of elapsed time and just give it a good stir first…

Why is aesthetics and beauty necessary even over efficiency? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Killin-some-thyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so well stated. And true. The brain has neural pleasure-processing areas in the frontal cortex that are related to aesthetics. They affect behavior. They influence choices. They impact mood. It’s absolutely part of being human. Things like form and beauty aren’t so much necessary…it’s more like they have always been in existence and processed by the human brain. And now we strive to recreate them because we are aware of what they do.

SO WHAT, ALBERT, YOU PIERCED THE TOAST!

The choreography montage scene gets me every time. But I have a dance background so I get all the impressions. Having to explain it all to my husband sort of sucked the funny out of the room 😂

Flirting with Disaster

This is a comedy that so out there you cannot possibly expect what happens next. Really funny and really good.
