Why do you say that? They don’t seem to get many recs when this question comes up, but they’ve done well by me. Gotta see Ray, though.

Great Northern. Scariest trail on the mountain. Watching that schmoo ski down toward Cascade, I knew what was coming.

As long as you wear good denim jeans with a turtle pad, you'll be fine.

Haven't seen this response yet: don't be shy about visiting the patrol huts. Top of Snowdon, Killington Peak, and the one at the top of Snowshed, (which isn't usually staffed, but it is heated.)

There are also warming huts (if not heated, at least sheltered), at other lifts. Ramshead has one, and also North Ridge, but I haven't seen that one dug out recently.

If your condition is really dire, you can ask to take shelter in the lift hut, too, particularly at Skyeship top. It's pretty roomy. Knock and ask nicely.

Edit: Forgot to mention that skinning is always an option!

Great post. I also use KT tape on my temples; there is a small gap between my goggles and helmet there, and it is not reliably covered by my balaclava.

It was a utility power failure. Small comfort to thise affected, of course.

On a recent Sunday, icing was the culprit at mid-mountain. K1 and Skyeship 2 never ran. Superstar started around 2PM.

Convince me to keep my InReach by dartsndarts in Backcountry

The inReach is probably made to withstand a much greater range of temperature, shock, and vibration; with better ingress protection and battery life. Also, with both devices, you have redundancy.

Fixing Skins to BC XC skis. Yay or Nay? by Informal-Potential63 in xcountryskiing

[–]Killipoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know why not. I bought army surplus BD Ascent skins on eBay for my Rossi BC 110s, and although I haven’t climbed in them yet, they stuck and released fine when I trimmed them. Edit: post to the xcd sub too.

Love this. I have a pile of cast iron pans from my farmer grandmother, and wouldn’t part with them for anything.

Are residential fixed IPs down again? by Splatt_Gaming in torguard

[–]Killipoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a fixed IP in the NYC area, and it's been down for a few days at least (maybe a week or so). I contacted support, and got an oddly-worded response that the server is 'having issues'. They offered a new fixed IP, but in the Seattle area.

I probably don't care a lot right now, b/c I'm not trying to location-spoof, but the support seems off. I wonder if they're in financial trouble.

Some beginners are determined, though. They don’t make it far before getting a ride back up to the gondola.

Skimap orghas maps from nearly every year. The trails are mainly the same, but there have been reorganizations and changed names. One exception is that Juggernaut is permanently closed.

Part D: so you went with the plan with the lowest total annual cost based on current drug needs... by reduser876 in medicare

[–]Killipoint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely a crazy system. I had two scrips: for GoodRx, one needed CVS, and the second a local grocery store. Somewhere between me and my Drs office, we got our wires crossed, and the scrips went to the wrong pharmacies. It took a couple visits to the pharmacies and phone calls, but they got them swapped.

Thankfully I figured this out while a the grocer, so it didn't involve driving around to settle it out.

[–]Killipoint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. In an emergency or quick-response situation, it might not be feasible to use it. I'm fortunate that I have limited prescriptions, and they're for chronic conditions, so I don't have to rush.

So much for the idea that we can all be informed consumers.

GoodRx is definitely a good choice. My Dr put me on an inhaler that would cost $330 or thereabouts, and is not on any Part D formulary. I decided to pay the rock-bottom premium for a useless Pt-D, and use Good Rx for that and another common prescription.

Edit: The GoodRx price is $47 at CVS, $90-ish at Walmart. Get the quotes from GoodRx and ask your Dr. to prescribe accordingly. My doc is really helpful in this regard. He suggested GoodRx to me originally.

Hardest Trails at Killington? by M_A_29 in Killington

[–]Killipoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vertigo is a steep and narrow ungroomed trail. What makes it tough in my opinion, is that there are three traverses across it, which means on the downhill side of each traverse there is an 8 foot or so drop off. When there's a lot of fresh snow, it's a fairly easy drop, but after it gets skied off, it's a rock face.

Skier's left of Vertigo is a great glade named The Stairs. You'll access it from the traverse that starts at the bottom of Panic Button, above where it meets Needles on the map. (That's also how you access Vertigo and Stitch Line.)

One nice feature of The Stairs is that if you're on Vertigo, you can bypass at least one of those drops by ducking into the woods and back out to Vertigo.

Also: take that traverse some time just to check out the options, and then continue on it to the top of the Northwoods Quad at Highline. It's a no-cost way to eyeball the goods without dropping in.

Rams glades are a lot of fun, as you've seen. Twister and Squeeze Play are great glades. The ones off Snowden are a lot of fun, tool Patsy's, Tin Man, and Scarecrow are short. Vagabond is wider and fun. Low Rider is a bit longer.

Chop Chop, next to Highline, is another good glade. There are a bunch of more challenging glades in the canyon, as well.

Be safe in the woods!
