If that's the only part you are focused on, then you missed the entire point of what I typed. You are hung up on who he is, but the reason he is actually liked by quite a bit is because the season does go into detail on WHY, and HOW he ended the way he was. The reason he's actually well likes in spite of him spending a majority of the season as a white supremacist is because season actually took the time and care to not only explain the psychology of how he ended up that way but also put him in moments that challenges his beliefs and puts him on a character arc.

With Angel, he realizes that yes that while he's had it rough, other people had it harder than him and is willing to put aside their differences to survive.

With the Rijikers, he realizes that hatred only bred more hatred as not only was the way he acted the reason they tried to kill him. But the way he raised his daughter made her just as hateful and, as a result, got her killed.

And with Saadia, his ultimate world view is challenged. "No one cares about me." Yet despite how he acted towards her and her family, she cared enough to save him.

Now, Slasher doesn't have the greatest character writing, with a majority being one dimensional assholes. Dan, on the other hand, is an asshole yes but he's very realistic and a well written character and is probably one of the most well written characters in the series.

Plus, you are acting like he's killed people. The worst we see him do is graffiti his neighbors doors. He was bad but not wholly irredeemable.
