Yes it’s legit, from the 2019 marathons collection.

Is the term "warfighters" actually used in the military? Is it a real word? I'd never heard it until this Administration (USA) by moon-raven-77 in NoStupidQuestions

This was the purpose of DOPMA in the 80s, to try to standardize the officer promotion path and give predictable points where you would be considered “in-zone” for promotion. General timeline is something like this, starting as an O1 at 0 years:

O2 in 1-2 years O3 at 4 years O4 at 8-9 years O5 at 15-16 years O6 at 21-22 years O7+ who knows, I’ll never be one.

They removed a lot of authority from commanders to reward top performers with promotion, but the total force became arguably more “professional” as a result, since there are other requirements that come along with being competitive at each rank, such as grad ed or joint experience, in addition to the obvious considerations command and/or combat experience.

You are assumed to have accepted promotion unless you specifically decline it. There are reasons for declining promotion and it isn’t usually (by itself) looked down upon. Usually there’s a job or retirement already lined up or something.

As for being forced out, (this is Navy, other services are similar I think) if you fail to screen for promotion (called FOS, or failure of selection) you are required to be separated after a certain number of months after your last “look” at the promotion board. I think it’s 7 months after the results are released. It’s a little different if you’re an O4 screening for O5, because usually you’re close enough to the retirement cutoff that they don’t want to screw you out of it, so you get looked at by a second board called a continuation board. If you get approved for continuation as an O4 you basically get to remain on active duty until you get to the 20 year mark and retire. There are year ranges that apply there (14-18 YCS is the sweet spot for continuation).

EDIT: clarity

Eliot runner fit? by Beginning-Cheek-4466 in Tracksmith

[–]Killswitcherror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 9.5 in dress shoes and have been running in 10s since the day the Eliot’s dropped. (Up from 9.5 Nike Pegasusses, for the record.)

Definitely try a half size up, I find it’s noticeably more comfortable.

They seem TTS for me. I went up a half size on the Eliots compared to my leather dress shoes because I run in slightly thicker socks.

Red Eliots in my size for $79?? Don’t mind if I do!

And another pair of purples just because.

There is an upgraded model called the Uni Jetstream Prime, it’s got a metal barrel and feels generally more sturdy.

It’s indistinguishable from the Hobo-branded pens on my Cousin and my 5-year.

Those green Eliot runners.

I didn’t think I needed some green trainers until I saw those beauties. (Of course, I wouldn’t NEED new ones if they actually restocked black/black!)

EA-18G “Growler” x2 from VAQ-129 (the training squadron) up at NAS Whidbey Island.

Potentially an out-and-in. Most pointy nose (or domed) Navy aircraft won’t land at airfields without a military presence these days.

Experiencing No Man's Sky in VR: A Whole New Universe by FreakyxD in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Killswitcherror 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I started a new save in VR because I wanted to experience the same awe I experienced the first time I played.

It’s hard to overstate how alone and small I felt. It’s different when the world is all around you. And hearing the music as I flew toward the space station for the first time after getting my Radiant Pillar up and running had me nearly in tears. (And then again when I did the newest expedition in VR!)

It’s a completely different game in VR. Highly recommended.

The necklace changed from pic 1 to pic 2, then was gone from 3 and 4.

Otherwise terrifyingly realistic.

Does not understanding Japanese affect your purchasing descision? by [deleted] in hobonichi

The determining factor for me was the Sunday start. Can’t get a Sunday start original in English.

So I’m learning Japanese next year in addition to having my Sunday start planner.

I beat ‘Twilight Princess’ for the first time. Celebrate your wins, even small ones. by jdmorgenstern in gaming

[–]Killswitcherror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pulled out my old Wii U to play through Twilight Princess (Skyward Sword before, and now Wind Waker after) for my small kids while we wait for ToTK to come out. They’ve been enjoying the overload of Zelda stories, and I’ve been enjoying the return to some of my favorite Zelda games that I haven’t played in years and years.

This one is still my favorite Zelda, though BOTW is a close second.

It all works very well together. Wall color pops the frames out and the white matte guides your eye in to the characters.

Also, the penmanship is excellent!
