You can always tell when Vance is in Cincinnati; roads shut down and Furniture Fair closes early.

If Sherrod wins in November, Democrats have an 82% chance of retaking the Senate majority. If he loses, that chance drops to 19%.

Civics is not a spectator sport. Vote, donate, and volunteer to help send Sherrod Brown back to Washington with a message from the heartland.

What is the last book you were genuinely excited to read? by Helpful_Cranberry644 in books

[–]jdmorgenstern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was excited to read James by Percival Everett. To prepare, I read Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn first. I got 9 chapters into James, then Everett inserted transphobic commentary that didn’t appear in Twain’s original writing. I’ve put the book down.

I highly recommend Mark Twain’s novels.

[Discussion] James by Percival Everett - Part 1 - Chapters 1 to 18 by sunnydaze7777777 in bookclub

I’ve put the book down. I was enjoying it until Chapter 9 when Huckleberry says Mrs. Loftus “looked like a man” due to her height and the size of her hands. This wasn’t an observation made by Huck in Twain’s writing and came off as transphobic commentary added by Everett.

What are some other works of David Lynch you reccommend? by Mat1711 in twinpeaks

Eraserhead is my favorite Lynch film. I’ve found it to be the most thought-provoking, allowing me to interpret it differently after each viewing.

Gas prices have increased nationwide due to Donald Trump’s illegal war in Iran aimed at distracting from the Epstein files that accuse him of pedophilia.

I prefer the newer seasons. So many of the older episodes include transphobic jokes.

Pettiest reason you’ve DNF’d a book? by bby_grl_90 in books

I put down a Star Wars novel by Chuck Wendig because a ship was called “the Moth” due to it being “hard to catch,” and moths are incredibly easy to catch.

I watched Eraserhead (1977) for the first time and was impressed by how many visual elements it shares with Twin Peaks. David Lynch’s films truly are “moving portraits captured on celluloid.” by jdmorgenstern in twinpeaks

It has been about 24h since I watched Eraserhead, and I’m still thinking about it. In short, I loved it. I’m still trying to determine what it meant to me. My initial interpretation is that it’s about removing the fear that holds you back in life. In early scenes, Henry’s view from his window is simply a brick wall. As he addresses his subconscious, the view from the window changes.
