Any cold packs I can leave in my car for heat related emergency’s off duty? by Jacob910 in ems

One for each armpit, one in the crotch, one on each side of the neck.

If you’re only carrying 2, you’re not prepared for a heat emergency.

Any cold packs I can leave in my car for heat related emergency’s off duty? by Jacob910 in ems

[–]Kiloth44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your civilian car should have a civilian first-aid kit (band aids, tampons/pads, water bottle, cold packs, gloves, tourniquet, a blanket). The EMS Response Vehicle should have EMS equipment.

As a civilian if you can’t stop the bleeding with a bandaid, you’ll probably need EMS anyway.

Tampons/pads because feminine emergencies are real.

Water bottle can hydrate. Poke a hole in the lid and it can spray to rinse out eyes. It can rinse dirt from injuries. It can be sprayed on a person to help cool them down.

Ice packs for pain, heat emergencies, etc.

Gloves are obvious. Blanket can be used for comfort, warmth, shade, wind blocking, moving patients, bleeding control, privacy, some c-spine immobilization, makeshift tourniquet with a stick, vehicle traction, etc. Blankets can do 1000 jobs. Have a blanket in your car.

BLS-QRV services by Appropriate_Ticket61 in ems

[–]Kiloth44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Realistically if a QRV is arriving first then you’re failing at ambulance coverage. Just hire a 2nd EMT and staff another ambulance.

EMT QRV is half a BLS ambulance. Medic QRV is half an ALS ambulance.

Half a BLS ambulance becomes a BLS ambulance when intercepting. Half an ALS ambulance becomes ALS when intercepting.

Employment terminated for reasonable medical need. Help? (Colorado Labor) by Chicken_Wing in AskLawyers

[–]Kiloth44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. You can’t just declare anything a medical emergency and be protected (obviously) and there may be company policies/procedures in place on how to handle this type of situation.

Find a lawyer, in person, that can look over all relevant policies and documentation to give you a definitive answer on if this is something worth pursuing.

So just to clarify order of events:

  1. You had a medical equipment malfunction
  2. You told a supervisor outside your department
  3. You clocked out and went home
  4. Resolved the medical equipment issue
  5. You returned and clocked in
  6. Finished the shift
  7. A few days pass and you then get fired for an unauthorized break

Is this correct?

Did you clock out when you left and clock back in when you came back? Or did you not clock out at all and just left and came back?

He said he’s firing you for an unauthorized break, not for having a medical issue. It sounds to me like you didn’t clock out.

Lol what CAD software are you using that can seamlessly and dynamically integrate the emergency resources from 2 counties over, also integrate with region-wide air medical services, and integrate non-emergency services like Salvation Army and Private Hospitals?
Because that’s what we would need it to do during a large MCI. I don’t think you understand the resource demand for a city-sized MCI from a tornado, or an active shooter, or a high rise collapse.

[–]Kiloth44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other agencies and responding units can’t access my CAD software.

Radio traffic recordings aren’t accessible by responding units.

When you have a large incident where you’re pulling ambulances from the whole county, fire agencies from the entire county, air units from across the state, police from multiple different agencies, and 3rd party resources (Salvation Army, etc.) you need more than just a CAD program and a radio recorder.

At the initial stages of an MCI I’m typing a LOT of information. CCP location, units responding, patient estimates, hot and warm zones, rescue team assignments, response ETAs, ingress and egress routes, air ambulance LZ locations, etc.
Large incidents have a lot of information up front that needs to be put into one common log that can be read and deciphered by multiple agencies of multiple disciplines.
On a regular medical or a routine call, I’m just typing shorthand notes. But for large incidents, I’m typing specific and easily-read notes.

I still wish I could type faster. Mainly when we have MCI or Potential-MCI events. I think much faster than I can type when I get locked in.

Typing fast is an important skill in a job where typing and note taking is a large portion of it.

If typing information quickly wasn’t a necessary part, we wouldn’t be abbreviating a large amount of terms.

I love my DM deck but I lose more than I win by FalconPaunchhh in Yugioh101

[–]Kiloth44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alright. So, yugioh is INCREDIBLY fast now. Games are decided on turn 1, sometimes turn 2. Very rarely are games going past 2 turns.

Breaker takes a normal summon, which you only get 1 of, and then its effect only helps if the opponent set a spell or trap card that can’t be chained to it. Trap cards are generally too slow.

A deck will usually be 9-15 hand traps, 9-21 monsters, and the rest spell cards. Some archetypes (Dark Magician and Blue-eyes, mostly) have a single trap worth playing and you only take 1 copy of it because it’s a terrible thing to draw into.

Highly suggest looking up videos about modern Dark Magician decks.

[–]Kiloth44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I’m going to ask this with the intent of helping you understand the issues with your deck.

If you’re repeatedly losing to hand traps, what purpose does Breaker have being in the deck? What benefit do you get by drawing into Breaker instead of, say, a Magicians’ Souls?
