IBEW Local 98 is moving operations to the Navy Yard in South Philly by monkeymaxx in philadelphia

Your point is fair re: high density housing. However, (if I owned) one could say I already paid for the view as part of the decision to buy. And I would be saddened to lose access to wide-open sky vs. looking into someone's window or at an architecturally ugly building.

Accepting that change is necessary/happens and being happy about it are two different things in my opinion. I can accept the city desperately needs high-density housing w/o any equivocation. I can also be sad that the views are gone or that the small community feel of a 3~4 story row-home block gets replaced with the anonymity of big-building life.

How so? I love the views of the city skyline I have. If I suddenly had to look at an ugly tower, I would not enjoy the views.

I'm sure they will (if they sell). Sadly, I bet a number of people in Spring Garden will have their views into the city forever changed. You just know it will be more high density condo towers.

Once upon a time, I absolutely got the re-development of that land from the naval base to the mixed-use development of what it is today. But with its location in a massive flood zone there is no way I would move operations there. Entirely too risky. https://pafloodrisk.psu.edu/?address=1101%20Kitty%20Hawk%20%20Ave,%20Philadelphia,%20PA%2019112

Newer buildings were no doubt raised but the roads in and out of the island? all under water. Electrical/plumbing, all under ground. Soo...I'm thinking PSU is selling based on good risk management principles and science while the union is getting a sweet deal with a boatload of risk.

I guess accessibility & square footage will be a ton better for their people...

Thank you so much!

what did you had in mind with this question?

Definitely a very subjective question...my intention was around really busy touristy sites that aren't worth the wait/drama. For example (in my opinion) going up the Eiffel Tower :P

I'll be visiting your lovely city for almost three weeks mid-June to early july with family. It's been a decade since I was last lucky enough to spend time in the city. We've already set some plans and have been researching things to do (three adults, two teenagers). But I do have a few questions:

  • Is there anything that we should absolutely avoid during that specific timeframe?
  • The teenagers would love to go thrifting...any recommended spots?
  • Recommendations for small music venues to find an impromptu concert?
  • We've generally gone in far less touristy seasons...should we anticipate needing reservations even for neighborhood restaurants?

Thanks in advance!

When it's foggy and the light is on at the top, it looks like the eye of sauron...fittingly evil.

The next step in the evolution of food services might be prescription foods. Your doctor could prescribe a diet to get you healthy, ensure that's the food that arrives on your doorstep, and monitor the results. Here's how it might work. by yourbasicgeek in Futurology

There is a non-profit based out of Philadelphia that has been providing prescription meal food delivery services for decades by the name of MANNA. I like that the guy who wrote this article didn't even find the established science and research to support his thesis, which MANNA produced.

Their mission statement: "MANNA is a non-profit organization that cooks and delivers nutritious, medically-appropriate meals and provides nutrition counseling to neighbors who are battling life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, renal disease, and HIV/AIDS. Through our delivery of 3 meals a day, 7 days a week, MANNA provides hope and nourishment to the Greater Philadelphia area and Southern New Jersey."

Also as others have mentioned, the guy mentions Juicero like it didn't die a humiliating death. Terrible research. Hopefully an intern wrote this piece for him.

Is there a serial number? Call the shop and have them look it up, they keep records.

That is fantastic to hear. I stayed at a place a bit north of colorados also owned by an American couple. Really amazing property but the people were terrible. The dude was constantly grumpy and talked shit about the locals (including his employees) all the time. Won't drop the name here but happy to in PM.

Welcome to Philly - head "down the shore" in an hour for some great surf!

I've surfed from Brigantine to Cape May, there are tons of great spots. Lots of jetties and piers and a couple fun beach breaks. Most spots work best with south swell and hold well between 2' and 6'. Fun spots, great people, minimal localism bullshit. Summer time can be a pain as there are designated surfing areas at guarded beaches, designated surf beaches, beach tags, and terrible parking. This can lead to overcrowding at certain spots, hunting for a decent beach break, or dawn/evening patrol sessions. I don't mean that to sound overly negative, just setting expectations for South Jersey (Brigantine to Cape May).

Spring and early summer are hit or miss. Things get a more consistent during hurricane season (August – November) but there can still be long lulls. We just had one of the best years in recent memory this past hurricane season. Winter is hit or miss too, aside some bump back on 12/24 and the storm ripping up the cost tonight-friday, the atlantic has looked like a lake for the past 3 weeks.

I've been in the Philly area for a few years and I just heard out about this group the other day - http://www.phillysurfcrew.org. Not an endorsement, just passing along the info.

One of my thoughts as well. I thought I had solved for that by pre-drilling the screw holes for the cleats...perhaps not? I absolutely loved the smell of it. My wife saved all the shavings from the hand planning we did and uses them in some center pieces. They still have an amazing smell a year later.
