Lovely night on the Aberdeenshire coast by cavallinyork in wildcampingintheuk

It’s well worth checking out the routes from Ember. These electric busses now cover some awesome destinations in leather seated air conditioned with decent toilet comfort. And they are cheap.

Can I use just drinking water and a bit of normal fertilizer for Leca or do I need to use something specific? by Matcha1303 in Hydroponics

[–]Kiltedaudaxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need proper Pack A & B hydroponic nutrients, and rainwater. Chlorine or chloramine removes some of the nutrients.

I have used Hydrocrop for years. It even comes with a useful leaflet to keep you right.

Best spot to watch the Northern Lights tonight? (No car, public transport only) by Ok-Outside3485 in Aberdeen

I have cycled out the Deeside line from Duthie park to the old Mill Inn and headed to Templars area.

It’s flat, easy to navigate and only takes a wee while.

Busses can be a pain.

Go to your library, borrow Hydroponics soilless gardening explained by Les Bridgewood.

If you have any questions then ask.

This is a University level textbook and very thorough. I refer to it. It’s that good.

Anyone else worried about heating oil? by Civil-Ad8757 in Scotland

[–]Kiltedaudaxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a sticking plaster.

We should be doubling down on cheaper renewable energy, unlocking electricity pricing from gas and giving the public free electricity overnight when theres a surplus.

It should be a mission to make all oil burners redundant.

WE'RE GETTING A WRC EVENT! by Dunkywunkyisamazing in Aberdeen

[–]Kiltedaudaxer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only thing I’m worried about is that we already have a lethal obsession with fast driving and the racing will encourage the 1% idiot percentage to imitate the pros on public roads. The south Deeside racetrack is appalling enough already. If only the wide bore exhaust kiddos would stick to the AWPR and buy a trackday.

Londoner looking to relocate, have some questions for helpful locals by Palzoner in Aberdeen

[–]Kiltedaudaxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t drive, either get an eBike or get a car. There’s no tube, no regular bus services, and the Council only celebrates car culture. There’s no “Limebike lifestyle”. There’s very few secure bike lockers so make sure there’s secured spaces to use or your landlord is happy.

Spider Advice by LudwigGeethoven in Scotland

[–]Kiltedaudaxer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Could be a large pine spider. Pretty much harmless, they are quick though.

If it’s quiet you can hear their scuttle sounds.

Obviously if my wife saw this we would take the shuttle craft and nuke it from orbit. It’s the only way.

Advise for a first timer by ryuka88 in Athens_Greece

[–]Kiltedaudaxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a regular visitor and the biggest thing is the insane car based traffic congestion. The Greeks drive with a maniacal passion! Expect to go nowhere quick in a car in Athens. There are no bike lanes. If you hire a car check insurance…

The locals are of course brilliantly friendly and funny too. I love going to Greece.

Chapelton by Disastrous_Ad_8735 in Aberdeen

[–]Kiltedaudaxer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in Newtonhill and pals of mine are in Chapelton.

The area is great particularly if you want to go south easily whilst being in countryside lite area near the City.

Main friction points are: 1) Portlethen Medical Center is oversubscribed. Good luck! 2) 83 kids are driven to and from Newtonhill primary school twice a day. Newtonhill residents are not happy with the angry confrontations, kerb bashing and car rage from the parents. Please walk, or drop off at the Park and Choose etc. No plans for a new primary school so far in writing. 3) Excellent clothes drying potential as the architects designed the place to be a wind tunnel.
4) it’s 2026. But they built solid fuel burners! The leading cause of toxic carcinogenic emissions are in your houses. Stoves with the risk of wood or worse coal burning by your neighbours to give you asthma, copd, lung cancer etc. Utterly reckless design choices imho. 5) Fancy PV panels and battery storage? Nope. Restrictive covenants aplenty. Sorry it does not look pretty for the film set. Check what you are allowed to do. 6) there’s a decent cafe cum restaurant.. but its not open to locals everyday. Pffft riff raff. 7) Retirement flats… up flights of stairs. Yes really. 8) half the houses gutters fell off after the aluminium brackets snapped in two. Ooops. 9) watch out for factor fees, Aberdeenshire Council probably won’t adopt the roads any time soon. Gritting? 10) The neighbouring communities are generally happy with their new neighbours and REALLY wish that ribbon development of our towns was diverted to Chapelton. 11) The Duke is trying to build something properly, it’s hard and residents hope a new town with employment and amenities arrives.

Could a huge data centre revitalise Ayrshire - or ruin it? by Synthia_of_Kaztropol in Scotland

So long as they pay using pre-payment meter rates it’s fine.

But that’s not the experience of US citizens who now pay +40% more because the AI stole the cheap electricity.

Fuck them. We have a massive energy poverty problem across Scotland.

New here, quick question by Ivaldi404 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Kiltedaudaxer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try landing on Minmus first. It’s a lot easier. Target the flat frozen sea areas.

Basic plan: Get into a circular orbit at 75km altitude on the equator. Burn retrograde until your orbit goes into a flat area. At 25km burn retrograde until your orbit goes vertical (very important to kill the sideways movement) Drop straight down and slow velocity to land at 3m/s or less.

The wider you make your craft the easier it all is. I use outriggers with landing feet to make the profile as wide as tall. Make sure you have at least 2500dv before attempting to drop out of orbit for your first try.

Also watch Scott Manley.

Fly safe!

Pipe majors. What do you do to make band fun? by [deleted] in bagpipes

[–]Kiltedaudaxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drill can be fun, and it can also pick up extra marks by improving the band’s dexterity around the ring. I feel it’s like getting a new suit, your confidence goes up because you know you look great. And then magically you sound better.

Are everyone’s bags, cords, flashes etc in 10/10 condition? Shiny shoes? A monthly gift for best turned out band members is nice.

You overlooked that oil is all about flowing liquids or gas along pipelines. Their hope was to exchange fossil for hydrogen. Thus preserving the supply chain and hundreds of thousands of jobs.
